Rainbow

A rainbow is a meteorological phenomenon that is caused by reflection, refraction and dispersion of light in water droplets resulting in a spectrum of light appearing in the sky. It takes the form of a multicoloured arc. Rainbows caused by sunlight always appear in the section of sky directly opposite the sun.

Rainbows can be full circles; however, the average observer sees only an arc formed by illuminated droplets above the ground, and centred on a line from the sun to the observer's eye.

In a primary rainbow, the arc shows red on the outer part and violet on the inner side. This rainbow is caused by light being refracted when entering a droplet of water, then reflected inside on the back of the droplet and refracted again when leaving it.

In a double rainbow, a second arc is seen outside the primary arc, and has the order of its colours reversed, with red on the inner side of the arc.

Overview

A rainbow is not located at a specific distance from the observer, but comes from an optical illusion caused by any water droplets viewed from a certain angle relative to a light source. Thus, a rainbow is not an object and cannot be physically approached. Indeed, it is impossible for an observer to see a rainbow from water droplets at any angle other than the customary one of 42 degrees from the direction opposite the light source. Even if an observer sees another observer who seems "under" or "at the end of" a rainbow, the second observer will see a different rainbow—farther off—at the same angle as seen by the first observer.

Who You Are (Jessie J album)

Who You Are is the debut studio album by English singer-songwriter Jessie J, released on 28 February 2011. Due to high demand and interest from fans, the release advanced by a month from 28 March, as previously planned. Production for the album took place throughout 2010 and contributing producers included: Dr. Luke, Toby Gad and K-Gee.

Who You Are received generally mixed reviews from contemporary music critics. It débuted at number two on the UK Albums Chart selling 105,000 copies in its first week. The album débuted in the US at number 11 on the Billboard 200 with first-week sales of 34,000 copies. Two singles preceded the album: Jessie J's UK début single "Do It Like a Dude" and "Price Tag", featuring B.o.B which served as the US lead single. A third single, "Nobody's Perfect", became J's third consecutive top 10 hit in the UK. The fourth single from the album "Who's Laughing Now", released 21 August 2011, peaked at #16 on the UK Singles Chart. The title track, "Who You Are", was released on 13 November 2011 as the album's fifth UK single.

Conquest (1937 film)

Conquest (also called Marie Walewska) is a 1937 film which tells the story of the Polish Countess Marie Walewska, who becomes the mistress of Napoleon in order to influence his actions towards her homeland. It stars Greta Garbo, Charles Boyer, Reginald Owen, Alan Marshal, Henry Stephenson, Leif Erickson, Dame May Whitty, George Zucco, and Maria Ouspenskaya.

The movie was adapted by S. N. Behrman, Samuel Hoffenstein, Helen Jerome and Salka Viertel from the novel Pani Walewska by Waclaw Gasiorowski. It was directed by Clarence Brown and Gustav Machatý (uncredited).

It was nominated for Best Actor in a Leading Role (Charles Boyer) and Best Art Direction (Cedric Gibbons and William A. Horning).

Its worldwide gross amounted to $2,141,000. But its massive budget led to a loss of $1,397,000.

Plot

Napoleon Bonaparte (Charles Boyer) launches an unsuccessful seduction of the Countess Marie Walewska (Greta Garbo), who is married to a much older man (Henry Stephenson), but she resists until convinced that giving in will save Poland. After her husband annuls their marriage and Napoleon divorces the Empress Josephine, the pair are free to formalize their happy relationship, but Napoleon shocks her by announcing his decision to wed the Archduchess Marie Louise of Austria for political reasons. While he doesn't expect it to impact his relationship with Marie, she leaves him, without ever telling him that she is expecting his child.

Conquest (Start-up Challenge)

Conquest is an international start-up competition organized by students at the Centre for Entrepreneurial Leadership at BITS Pilani. The competition offers entrepreneurs the opportunity to present their ideas to venture capitalists and investors, and to meet with other entrepreneurs for mentoring and networking.

History

The Conquest competition was started in 2004 as a Business Plan Competition, by a group of BITS students with the mission to invite start-up companies and help them network with potential investors. It was designed to help start-ups raise funds and pitch their ideas in an interactive session with potential investors.

2004–2007

Started in 2004 as a Business Plan Competition, Conquest went international in 2006 and since 2007. It started inviting successful entrepreneurs to share their insights. Conquest provided a network-building platform, not only for entrepreneurs all over India, but also for the students of BITS.

2007–2010

Up to 2007, the focus of Conquest was on mentoring new ideas through the start up phase. However, many of the business ideas introduced in the competition failed to launch. Participants in business plan competitions all over India were focusing more on making better presentations and less on their core business models. Changes were introduced in the format to attract good start-up participation and keep non-serious business plans from winning.

Demountable Rack Offload and Pickup System

The demountable rack offload and pickup system (DROPS) is a family of logistics vehicles operated by the British Army, which consists of two vehicle types:

Both are able to transport 15-tonne flatracks or containers configured to ISO 20 feet standard and to load and offload them autonomously. Both may be supported with side rail transfer equipment (SRTE) for loading and unloading railway wagons.

The DROP system was designed to meet the very high intensity battles in Central Europe in the last decade of the Cold War. However it entered service after the collapse of the Warsaw Pact but nevertheless proved a versatile vehicle system on operations completely different from those originally envisaged.

Operational requirement

The DROP system developed from the revaluation of readiness and firepower requirements of British Army of the Rhine (BAOR) in the mid-1970s. This was driven by three principal developments in the Warsaw Pact and, in particular, Group Soviet Forces Germany (GSFG). These were:
