A tribute to one of my favorite books of all time, Don Quixote! :) I truly believe youtube lacks them in this aspect, there should be more videos about this magnificent story, apart from boring school projects. This song by Coldplay just couldn't be more perfect for this, seriously! Too bad it was never officially recorded, so I have to apologize for the lack of quality, from both the song and the clips. I tried to give this video some sort of dream-ish feeling, messing around with colors and stuff. I also tried to synchronize the plot with the lyrics xD If you are doing a school project about this book against your will, then I hope this video can motivate you to like it somehow. There are several changes. Don Quixote is "dubbed" a knight not by an innkeeper, but by a traveling actor who is appearing as a king in a play that Don Quixote mistakenly believes to be real. As in the later 1957 Russian film version of the novel, the attack on the windmills is moved to near the end of the film. The mill workers are seen returning from their labor, and unlike the novel, Don Quixote is caught up by the windmill but not thrown. The windmill is stopped by the mill workers, who then assist Sancho is carrying Quixote down. The final scene is the most radically changed of all. Totally defeated, and brought home imprisoned in a cage, Don Quixote sees that his niece, the village priest, and Sanson Carrasco (who in this version is the niece's fiancee, as in Man of La Mancha) have burnt his beloved books of chivalry. The shock literally kills Don Quixote; he collapses and dies in Sancho's arms, while the townsfolk, who only a few moments prior, were laughing and jeering at him as he sat in the cage, are deeply moved and now kneel in respect for the dead "knight". In a bit of trick photography, the pages of the original 1605 edition of Cervantes's novel arise from the flames rather than being consumed by them - a sign that Don Quixote has achieved immortality. Dulcinea, who actually appears in the film, is depicted as a not-too-bright milkmaid, and cruelly, she is among those who laugh the hardest when Don Quixote is brought back in a cage. Don Quixote's name is actually Don Quixote in this version. He is never referred to as Alonso Quixano.

Los Cinco Latinos es un grupo vocal-instrumental de rock and roll de Argentina aún activo, creado en 1957. The film starts with the words, "This is a very old fairy tale that was first told many centuries ago and still lives, and everybody tells it in a different way". The creators of the film "Zolushka", 1947 ("Cinderella"), told this old story with so much tenderness, humor, kindness, and style that it will be loved and watched by spectators of many generations, past and future, children and adults alike. "Cinderella" is the film of lasting and never aging charm. Its directing is effortless, the familiar plot never fails to captivate, the music by Antonio Spadavekkia is enchanting and absolutely fits the magic of the film. The old story is retold by Yevgeni Shvarts (who also wrote the screenplays to the masterpieces of Russian Cinema "To Kill a Dragon" (1991), "Ordinary Wonder" (1978), "Twelve Chairs" (1977), and "Don Quixote" (1957)), and he added the jokes that are still funny and biting after all these years. I just have to say a couple of words about acting. The best Russian actors of the time participated in the "Cinderella". I would never forget a touchy but kind King (Erast Garin), tender and loving Zolushka (Yanina Zhejmo, who was 38 when she took a role but she was absolutely believable as 16 year old Zolushka), and one of my favorite actresses of all time, one and only Faina Ranevskaya as an evil but unforgettable Stepmother who believes that with her powerful connections she will rule the Magic Kingdom. The fabulous atmosphere and unusual interpretation of the story, together with the vivid images of the characters and magnificent game of actors create the truly magnetic effect. Even though the film is shot during the times of post-war hardships, it is filled with such a kindness and sincerity that you want to watch it again and again. At this difficult time Yevgeny Shwarts, Nadezhda Kosheverova and Mikhail Shapiro managed to create a beautiful fairytale, which fills the hearts of viewers with the unforgettable sense of miracle.

Tercera salida con música: El Quijote, de Adolfo Mejía POR CARLOS BARREIRO ORTIZ Cuando don Alonso Quijano, en un alarde de fantasioso optimismo, decide armarse caballero andante, su plácida condición de provinciano manchego se convertirá en un catálogo de desventuradas aventuras. Aunque Cide Hamete Benengeli —álter ego del propio Cervantes— nos hace saber al inicio de la segunda parte de la novela que don Quijote emprenderá su tercera salida, al final del libro una pluma póstuma hará votos por el reposo del héroe que, de esta manera, se verá imposibilitado de “hacer tercera jornada y salida nueva”. Sea como fuere, el poeta y escritor santandereano Aurelio Martínez Mutis decide por su cuenta y riesgo resucitar a don Quijote en una tercera salida poética en forma de drama lírico en un prólogo, un acto y cuatro cuadros, que tendría lugar en Bogotá a finales de 1937. De ese evento escénico da cuenta el cuadernillo publicado donde se dan a conocer detalles del espectáculo que, según Daniel Samper Ortega, contribuye a innovar el género teatral, pues “no es comedia, ni revista, ni imita al cinematógrafo”. El argumento de esa tercera salida quijotesca se fundamenta como origen inmediato en los sangrientos enfrentamientos que sacudían a España por aquellos años. De esta manera, el autor, con “su visión purificada del mundo”, Cinco músicos colombianos son llamados por el autor para elaborar un ambiente sonoro de ilustraciones musicales a las peripecias intemporales de este Quijote criollo: Alberto Urdaneta, Egisto Giovanetti, Guillermo Quevedo, Emilio Murillo y Adolfo Mejía. Mejía había regresado al país al cabo de una gira que lo llevó hasta los Estados Unidos haciendo parte como guitarrista del Trío Albéniz, con quienes llegó a presentarse en los estudios de la NBC de Nueva York. El joven compositor cartagenero —a quien recordamos en el primer centenario de su nacimiento— escribe para la pieza la Obertura, Canto de amor y Danza ritual africana, que complementan la acción y las “decoraciones escenográficas” diseñadas por el artista Pedro A. Quijano y el pintor español Vásquez Rojas. La tarea era apenas adecuada para el estilo de Mejía, quien ha sido el compositor colombiano que ha mostrado más cercanía con los elementos de la tradición musical española. A manera de ilustración, mencionemos sus partituras Capricho español para arpa y orquesta, Españolerías para guitarra, ciertas secuencias de Luminosidad de aguas para arpa, además del proyecto para la película Los cuatro pasos de Gibraltar, también sobre un texto de Martínez Mutis. En esta perspectiva, Mejía es percibido por Policarpo Alvárez Lara en el discurso pronunciado en 1957 en la Peña Victoriana de Cartagena de Indias, como “...caballero hidalgo de verdad, empecinado seguidor de don Quijote (y dado) al sortilegio de la música, de la poesía, de la pintura, a sus mundos encantados, a sus paraísos fantásticos”.2 La música del Preludio de Mejía marcado en tempo de malagueña, se escucha al abrirse el telón sobre la escena, y propone algo así como el mapa musical de España con la sutileza y colorida imaginación tan peculiar en todas sus partituras para orquesta. La pieza se incluyó en agosto de 1938 en el concierto ofrecido en el Teatro Colón de Bogotá por la Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional dirigida por Guillermo Espinosa, con ocasión del Festival iberoamericano de música y el IV Centenario de la fundación de Bogotá. Fue esta una época significativa en la carrera musical de Mejía, pues ese año recibió el premio Ezequiel Bernal por su inspirada y mejor difundida Pequeña suite para orquesta. Además de los coros, los otros cuatro músicos del elenco contribuyeron con sendas partituras originales: Suite Amazonas (Giovanetti), Coro e himno de Tarik, Canción de la morisca e Intermezzo del desierto (Urdaneta), Marcha triunfal (Quevedo) y temas indígenas compuestos por Emilio Murillo. La “aplaudida soprano” Anita Chaparro tendría a su cargo la Canción de la morisca de Urdaneta y Canto de amor de Mejía. En el acto fundamental de la pieza, a los acordes de la Marcha triunfal de Quevedo, un evento singular reunirá a don Quijote, al Mio Cid, a Abderramán II (califa de Córdoba), a un obrero ruso, a camisas negras y rojas, y a grupos que llegan con armas, tipos y trajes de los países de Europa ataviados convenientemente con telas tejidas por los campesinos de Samacá. Un final digno del idealismo del Caballero de la Triste Figura en su propósito de enderezar un mundo que pugna por construirse una civilización “pura, perfecta y equilibrada”.
