Ajay Chandra (Amitabh Bachchan) is a hard working and ambitious young man, who thinks of making it big by himself, than taking up a small job. One day, at a friend's wedding he meets with Aruna Khosla (Moushumi Chatterjee) and falls in love with her. Aruna is a daughter of a well known lawyer Mr. Khosla (Satyendra Kapoor). Ajay decides not to open up the truth about him to Aruna at that time and lies to her about living a life of his rich and well-off friend, Prakash Mariwalla (Rakesh Pandey). He also, impresses Aruna's mother Mrs. Khosla (Urmila Bhatt), but Aruna's father turns down the marriage proposal and starts to prosecute Ajay for business fraud. Through his hard work and support from Aruna and her mother, Ajay tries to convince her father. Will Ajay be able to succeed in winning Mr. Khosla's heart? Will Mr. Khosla accept Ajay as his son-in-law?
