Douglas Road

The Douglas Road, aka the Lillooet Trail, Harrison Trail or Lakes Route, was a goldrush-era transportation route from the British Columbia Coast to the Interior (NB another route known as the Lillooet Trail was the Lillooet Cattle Trail, which used some of the same route but was built 25 years later). Over 30,000 men are reckoned to have travelled the route in, although by the end of the 1860s it was virtually abandoned due to the construction of the Cariboo Wagon Road, which bypassed the region.

History

Originally traversed by HBC employees in 1828 and charted by HBC explorer Alexander Caulfield Anderson in 1846, the route was heavily travelled by prospectors seeking to avoid the dangers of the Fraser Canyon to access the gold-bearing bars of the Fraser around today's Lillooet. Pressure for an alternative route to the Upper Fraser had mounted in the wake of the Fraser Canyon War of the winter of 1859, and miners were wary of travelling through the territory of the Nlaka'pamux (Thompson Indians), even though the war was over.

Douglas Road station

Douglas Road is a station of the Metrorail rapid transit system just southwest of Coconut Grove, in Miami, Florida. It is the southernmost Metrorail station in Miami city limits, although it has a Coral Gables address. The station is located at the intersection of Douglas Road (West 37th Avenue) and South Dixie Highway (US 1), three blocks south Bird Road (SW 40th Street). It opened to service May 20, 1984.

Douglas Road (Miami)

Douglas Road, also West 37th Avenue on the greater Miami grid plan and Northwest 88th Avenue in Miramar, is a 20.4-mile (32.8 km) north–south thoroughfare running west of downtown Miami in Miami-Dade County and Broward County, Florida.

Route description

Douglas Road begins as South Douglas Road at Edgewater Drive in Coral Gables, immediately west of the city of Miami in Coconut Grove, headed north toward South Dixie Highway (US 1). Soon after crossing US 1, it crosses Bird Road (SR 976), straddling Miami and Coral Gables. Going northward, it crosses Coral Way (SR 972) and the Tamiami Trail (US 41) before crossing Miami grid baseline Flagler Street (SR 968) and becoming North Douglas Road.

West 37th Avenue/Douglas continues northward, crossing a Miami River fork before ending at Northwest 28th Street and South River Drive on the south bank of the Miami River. It begins again on the northern banks of the Miami River at Northwest North River Drive to North 79th Street (SR 934). North of 79th Street, it partially becomes a limited-access road running through railway trackage used by Amtrak and SFRTA, ending at North 95th Street.
