WAVES
Some more footage from the California Highway 1 shoot. I couldn't really find anywhere to put this in the BEACH video edit...but I thought it still looked pretty neat.
Relax.....
60i footage in FCP:
Slow-mo instructions XHA1 users.
Keep in mind that you do not have to de-interalce any 60i footage. If the sequence settings are right...then you are good to go. These instructions are intended for use with the Canon XH-A1 shooting in HDV mode.
The Steps:
1. In the Menu bar Navigate to Final Cut Pro>Audio/Video Settings
2.Click on the Sequence Preset Tab
3. Scroll down and highlight the HDV-1080i60 setting.
4. Press DUPLICATE (you should now have an HDV 1080i60 setting without a lock icon next to it)
5. Highlight the duplicated preset(the one without the lock icon)
6.Click Edit
7. Rename Preset at the top(whatever works for you)
8. In the GENERAL tab Make sure you have these settings
8.a Frame Size: w1440xh1080
8b. Pixel Aspect Ratio: HD (1440x1080) leave the anamorphic 16:9 box unchecked
8c.****EDITING TIMEBASE**** 59.94 (this is crucial for slow-motion) NOT the 29.97 in the original 1080i60 preset.
8d. Compressor: HDV1080i60
8e. Quality 100%
Leave the audio settings as is...
9. hit ok
To set your new preset for the sequence:
1.Final Cut Pro>Audio/Video Settings
2. Under the Summary tab Select the Sequence preset you made
10 Slow your footage down
1. cmd+j/ or go to the motion tab(in the viewer) and time remap.
11. Enjoy
Notes:
On my system slow motion does not work the first time I place the footage into the timelime. Usually what I have to do is place a clip(60i) into the timeline and then go to my bin window and right click on the sequence. It is here that I see the editing timebase is at 29.97. I want it to be at 59.94. I will then remove the footage from my timeline and change the timebase to 59.94.

Copeland Scroll Compressor Autopsey Pt1
this one had spun its upper motor bearing to the point that it welded to the shaft and continued to wear out the head casting! My guess is either the oil hole became plugged, or the bearing shell was a poor fit to the head casting and simply came loose and stuck to the rotor shaft.
