He is a filipino politician and the current Mayor of Davao City in the Philippines. Rodrigo, Rody or Digong Duterte was born on Match 28, 1945 in Maasim, Southern Leyte Philippines. He is 70 years old. His father is Vicente G. Duterte, who served as a Governor of Davao. His mother is Soledad Roa, a school teacher. Rodrigo Duterte studied elementary at at Sta. Ana Elementary School in Davao City. He graduated in 1956. He finished his secondary education at Holy Cross of Digos. He took up Bachelor Arts degree at Lyceum of the Philippines. He also studied law at San Bedan College. He was appointed as an officer in charge Vice Mayor of Davao in 1986 after the People Power Revolution. In 1988, he ran for Mayor and won. He's been in the politics for 3 decades. And up to now in his 70's still active, well respected in Davao City. His daugther Sara Duterte - Carpio a lawyer and politician also served as Mayor of Davao from 2010- 2013. " I hate criminals, criminals have no place in Davao City. Leave my city and my people alone or else I will kill you" Duterte is aways saying this to media and the people respect him in Davao. When he says it he will do it. This is one of the reasons why Davao ranked number 9 as the safest City in the world. There's rules, in Davao City. Davao City won the National Literacy Hall of Fame for being 3 times first place in the Outstanding Local Government Unit Highly Urbanized City category. Serving, selling, drinking and consumption of liquors and alcoholic beverages are probited from 1:00 am untill 8:00 am in the morning. There's also speed limits for all kinds of motor vehicles. There's also 911 number where you call for emergency. There's a CCTV everywhere and a high tech stop lights. If you like fireworks in New Year then Davao is not a place for you, because it is prohibited. You will get arrested if you get caught. He also take his taxi at night to monitor the city. This is the standard of Duterte in Davao City, to live in peace and order. Under Duterte's period of service,Davao City reduced the number of crimes and violence. He been nicknamed as " The Punisher" Even though he been criticized by Human Rights Group and by the Amnesty International for tolerating extrajudicial killing of crime suspects. Duterte appeared many times on local television and radio and announced the names of criminals. Duterte said " Summary execution of crimes remains effective way to crush kidnapping and illegal drugs." "If you are doing illegal activity in my city, if you are criminal or part of syndicate that preys innocent people, as long as I am the Mayor, you are a legitimate target of assassination" " Here in Davao, you can't get out alive, If you are a drug dealer. You can go out, but inside a coffin" Duterte's name is getting famous everyday, not only in Davao or Mindanao but his name is being heard all over the more he get criticized the more he will fire back. A lot of speculations that he is planning to run for Presidency in 2016. But Duterte never confirm it on media. He said that he is too old to run, he got no money to fund his candidacy and it is only a headache. In one of his interviews he said." You will elect me as a President and then put me in jail? No way, I don't have any intention to run as a President." But a lot of netizens in Davao, encourage him to run, one group started to collect one peso for Duterte to support his candidacy, not only in the Philippines but also abroad. Duterte is bold, direct, and not afraid to face his critics. He said on his latest interview: " Because of my critics, I might consider to run for President, but I warn you, that if I elected as a President I might kill 100,000 criminals instead of 1,000 including corrupt politicians" The Punisher, Hand of Steel.
