John Denver - "Sister Cities: We Are One"
This video is uploaded to honor
Sister Cities International and one of it's most loyal supporters,
Ruth Hashimoto.
John and Dik Darnell wrote the song in
1986 at the request of Ruth, one of the organization's most loyal, hard working and beloved volunteers. Dik was marrried to one of Ruth's granddaughters.
Sadly, Ruth, passed away on 1/4/
2010 at the age of 96. She will be missed. May her
Spirit continue to fly.
As noted below, "
Sister Cities:
We Are One" was first performed to honor
CSI's 30th anniversary. The song does not appear on any of
John Denver's musical releases. So, enjoy it here and listen to the song's meaningful lyrics.
Will update this video later with more photos.
Sister Cities: We Are One
-by John Denver and Dik Darnell
The many flags behold the four winds gently blow
And seven seas break on the shore of every land
The spirit that we share, the love thats everywhere
Breaks in our hearts and leaves us all to understand
Gone, gone are the days of separation
Long gone the threat of you or me
The future of the world lies in the dreams
of each and every one
So we join together, you and me
Hand in hand we choose to be
Were all one dream, one voice of hope
Hope for tomorrow
Were all one life, one gift of love
One song forever
Sister cities, brother nations
Hand in hand in celebration
Sister cities, brother countries
One peaceful world, one human nation
Yes we are one
For every mothers child, for every fathers joy
And each and every one belonging to us all
The life upon this
Earth is dancing with the sun
And every silent voice awakes to join the call
Gone, gone are the days of separation
Long gone the threat of you or me
The future of the world lies in the dreams
of each and every one
So we join together, you and me
Hand in hand well always be
Were all one dream, one voice of hope
Hope for tomorrow
Were all one life, one gift of love
One song forever
Sister cities, brother nations
Hand in hand in celebration
Sister cities, brother countries
One peaceful world, one human nation
Yes we are one, sister cities
Yes we are one, sister cities, brother nations
Yes we are one
