Chester Charles Bennington (born March 20, 1976) is an American musician, singer-songwriter and actor. He is best known as the lead vocalist and songwriter of the rock band Linkin Park.
Bennington became known as a vocalist with Linkin Park's debut album, Hybrid Theory, in 2000, which was a massive commercial success. The album was certified Diamond by the RIAA in 2005, making it the best-selling debut album of the decade, as well as one of the few albums to ever hit that many sales. Linkin Park's following studio albums, Meteora, Minutes To Midnight, and A Thousand Suns, released in 2003, 2007, and 2010 respectively, continued the band's success. Bennington formed his own band, Dead by Sunrise as a side-project in 2005. The band's debut album, Out of Ashes was released on October 13, 2009.
Bennington took interest in music at a young age, citing Depeche Mode and Stone Temple Pilots as early inspirations. Bennington's parents separated in the late 1980s. He later struggled with cocaine and methamphetamine addictions. Bennington eventually overcame his drug addiction, and would go on to denounce drug use in future interviews. He worked at a fast food restaurant before starting his career as a professional musician.

Prior to his sustaining a leg injury that would cancel the remainder of Linkin Park’s tour with Rise Against and Of Mice & Men, vocalist Chester Bennington sat down with APTV for an interview.
APTV Nashville correspondent Philip Obenschain sat down with Bennington to discuss the since-cancelled “Hunting Party Tour,” the band’s return to their heavier sound and what it was like for Linkin Park to take on Warped Tour for a day last summer.
“It was the first time I didn’t feel like I was the new guy,” Bennington said, noting that while it was uncomfortable to be surrounded by so many people who wanted to sing his praises there, he felt it was ultimately where the band belonged.
“It’s really neat to see [the legacy of our music], because we don’t think of ourselves that way or see ourselves in that way. We just want to keep making music and try to be creative, because that’s what makes life fun for us; that’s all we focus on.”
