On Day 4 in Manila, Sofitel Philippine Plaza in Manila invited us to go to their Spiral Sunday brunch / lunch buffet. Since I had already heard about it from others, many of whom said it was the best and grandest buffet in the Philippines, and maybe in Asia, I was pretty excited to have the chance to try it out.
We arrived right as the sunday lunch buffet started, right at 12 noon, and we first met the manager who showed us around the buffet, and explained the philosophy of the buffet. At Spiral Buffet in Manila they have 21 different food ateliers, which is French means artisan workstations - so at the buffet they mean different types of cuisine and stalls. So there are basically 21 different types of cuisine to choose from, French, Indian, Filipino, Thai, and a full cheese room, and fresh cold Japanese section as well. As soon as we sat down, we were poured a glass of champagne to begin with. There are two different prices for the sunday brunch buffet - you can either go with unlimited alcoholic beverages (champagne and wine) or you can go without alcohol. If you’re interested in drinking, the former option is a great option.
I had no clue where to start eating, so I just went with the food that was the closest to our table - the cold Japanese atelier - including a full tuna sitting and waiting to be sliced by the piece. After my plate of sushi and sashimi and caviar, I then had a plate of Filipino food including crocodile adobo and the infamous balut - a fertilized boiled egg - all of which were pretty good. I then had a plate of Indian food, French food, and some Japanese hot food too.
What I really liked about Spiral Buffet at Sofitel Manila is that even though it was so incredibly grand and so extensive, the food was cooked in small batches, so it wouldn’t sit too long before being finished off. This way, the food remained fresh, and hot, and though it was a buffet, the quality was truly top notch. I haven’t been to too many hotel buffets in my life, but this was easily one of the best buffets I’ve ever seen or eaten at.

CHIANG MAI, THAILAND — A group of Chinese tourists were caught on camera shoveling large amounts of prawns onto their plates.
The video showed the tourists climbing over each other at a hotel buffet in Chiang Mai, Thailand, in order to fill their plates with seafood. Most were employing multiple plates, using one plate to scoop food onto another, while other used their hands. Some walked away with three or four plates at a time.
Afterwards, photos were taken of the leftover food. Most of what was taken was left uneaten, prompting netizens to criticize the behaviour of the greedy tourists.
Most people said the behavior was shameful and lacked proper etiquette. Some were embarrassed by the behavior while others simply stated, "That is Chinese."

Un grupo de turistas chinos fueron capturados por la cámara paleando grandes cantidades de mariscos en sus platos.
El video mostró a los turistas que suben uno sobre el otro en un hotel buffet en Tailandia, con el fin de llenar sus platos con mariscos. La mayoría estaban empleando múltiples platos, mientras que otros utilizan sus manos. Algunos se fueron con tres o cuatro platos a la vez.
Posteriormente, se tomaron fotos de los restos de comida. La mayor parte de lo que se tomaron fue dejado sin comer, lo que provocó que los internautas criticaran el comportamiento de los turistas.

A buffet (IPA: [ˈbʊfeɪ] in UK, IPA: [bʉˈfeɪ] in US) is a system of serving meals in which food is placed in a public area where the diners generally serve themselves. Buffets are offered at various places including hotels and many social events. Sideboards are also known as buffets as they may be used to offer the dishes of a buffet meal to guests.
A buffet can also be referred to as a cafeteria, snack bar, counter and smorgasbord.
The word buffet comes from Fr bufet “bench, stool, sideboard”, from the 12th century. The definition of buffet was extended to mean a “meal served from a buffet” in 1888.
One form of buffet is to have a table filled with plates containing fixed portions of food; customers select plates containing whichever food items they want as they walk along. This form is most commonly seen in cafeterias. A variation occurs in a Dim sum house, where the patrons make their selections from a wheeled trolley containing the different plates of food that circulate through the restaurant. Another derivative of this type of buffet occurs where patrons choose food from a buffet style layout and then pay based on what was chosen (sometimes based on the weight of the food).

CHIANG MAI, THAILAND — A group of Chinese tourists were caught on camera shoveling large amounts of prawns onto their plates. The video showed the tourists climbing over each other at a hotel buffet in Chiang Mai, Thailand, in order to fill their plates with seafood. Most were employing multiple plates, using one plate to scoop food onto another, while other used their hands. Some walked away with three or four plates at a time. Afterwards, photos were taken of the leftover food. Most of what was taken was left uneaten, prompting netizens to criticize the behaviour of the greedy tourists. Most people said the behavior was shameful and lacked proper etiquette. Unbelievable Buffet, Goodbye Langkawi (Day 7)

We started the morning off at the hotel, and just finished some work before our driver picked us up at about 10:30 am. Our flight was at 1 pm, but before we caught our flight our of Langkawi, we need to have lunch. We drove directly over to a restaurant called Kak Yan Nasi Campur, famous throughout the island for serving rice and curry and an outstanding amount and supply of different dishes. To eat at Kak Yan Nasi Campur, you first grab your own plate, fill it with rice, and then you can go through the buffet line and scoop on as much food as you like. 強國客遊泰食buffet 冚家用碟鏟蝦超丟架
民以食為天，中國遊客為美食瘋狂，日前在泰國上演「大蝦爭奪戰」！有中國旅行團在泰享用自助餐時，一窩蜂包圍餐桌，直接用碟瘋狂鏟蝦，但最後吃不完，浪費大量食物，被泰國網民拍下過程放到fb，結果出醜出到外國去，更被英國傳媒形容為「一群飢民」。 事件中的Rammayana餐廳位於曼谷King Power免稅店內，於上周四接待中國旅行團，影片顯示中國團友不論男女老幼，都為大蝦瘋狂，臉紅耳赤搶作一團，為爭取有利位置，他們互相批踭、不斷擠向前，高聲用普通話吆喝對方，有人用大碟鏟走大盤鮮蝦，食物越堆越高，也有人直接用手拿蝦。其中一名女子成功爭取三大碟滿滿的大蝦，仍意猶未盡不願離去，場面相當混亂。 不過有網友拍到中國遊客做了「大嘥鬼」，千辛萬苦搶來的大蝦，大部份都沒吃完，原封不動放在餐桌上。事件中的餐廳亦豎立簡體字和泰文對照的告示牌，寫上「請適量拿取，以防食物從餐盤掉到地上，導致客人滑倒」的提醒字句。

On Day 4 in Manila, Sofitel Philippine Plaza in Manila invited us to go to their Spiral Sunday brunch / lunch buffet. Since I had already heard about it from others, many of whom said it was the best and grandest buffet in the Philippines, and maybe in Asia, I was pretty excited to have the chance to try it out.
We arrived right as the sunday lunch buffet started, right at 12 noon, and we first met the manager who showed us around the buffet, and explained the philosophy of the buffet. At Spiral Buffet in Manila they have 21 different food ateliers, which is French means artisan workstations - so at the buffet they mean different types of cuisine and stalls. So there are basically 21 different types of cuisine to choose from, French, Indian, Filipino, Thai, and a full cheese room, and fresh cold Japanese section as well. As soon as we sat down, we were poured a glass of champagne to begin with. There are two different prices for the sunday brunch buffet - you can either go with unlimited alcoholic beverages (champagne and wine) or you can go without alcohol. If you’re interested in drinking, the former option is a great option.
I had no clue where to start eating, so I just went with the food that was the closest to our table - the cold Japanese atelier - including a full tuna sitting and waiting to be sliced by the piece. After my plate of sushi and sashimi and caviar, I then had a plate of Filipino food including crocodile adobo and the infamous balut - a fertilized boiled egg - all of which were pretty good. I then had a plate of Indian food, French food, and some Japanese hot food too.
What I really liked about Spiral Buffet at Sofitel Manila is that even though it was so incredibly grand and so extensive, the food was cooked in small batches, so it wouldn’t sit too long before being finished off. This way, the food remained fresh, and hot, and though it was a buffet, the quality was truly top notch. I haven’t been to too many hotel buffets in my life, but this was easily one of the best buffets I’ve ever seen or eaten at.

The video showed the tourists climbing over each other at a hotel buffet in Chiang Mai, Thailand, in order to fill their plates with seafood. Most were employing multiple plates, using one plate to scoop food onto another, while other used their hands. Some walked away with three or four plates at a time.
Afterwards, photos were taken of the leftover food. Most of what was taken was left uneaten, prompting netizens to criticize the behaviour of the greedy tourists.
Most people said the behavior was shameful and lacked proper etiquette. Some were embarrassed by the behavior while others simply stated, "That is Chinese."

Un grupo de turistas chinos fueron capturados por la cámara paleando grandes cantidades de mariscos en sus platos.
El video mostró a los turistas que suben uno sobre el otro en un hotel buffet en Tailandia, con el fin de llenar sus platos con mariscos. La mayoría estaban empleando múltiples platos, mientras que otros utilizan sus manos. Algunos se fueron con tres o cuatro platos a la vez.
Posteriormente, se tomaron fotos de los restos de comida. La mayor parte de lo que se tomaron fue dejado sin comer, lo que provocó que los internautas criticaran el comportamiento de los turistas.
La mayoría de las personas dijeron que el comportamiento fue vergonzoso y carecía de la etiqueta adecuada. Algunos estaban avergonzados por el comportamiento, mientras que otros simplemente dijeron: "Son chinos"

This vlog is from Day 7 of our Langkawi trip. We started the morning off at the hotel, and just finished some work before our driver picked us up at about 10:30 am. Our flight was at 1 pm, but before we caught our flight our of Langkawi, we need to have lunch. We drove directly over to a restaurant called Kak Yan Nasi Campur, famous throughout the island for serving rice and curry and an outstanding amount and supply of different dishes. To eat at Kak Yan Nasi Campur, you first grab your own plate, fill it with rice, and then you can go through the buffet line and scoop on as much food as you like. I wanted to taste some of everything, but that since there were probably about 50 different dishes, I decided to go for some of my favorites.
The first thing I added to my plate was a grilled fish (ikan bakar), and then I proceed to add on some other fish curry, some vegetable curries, and a famous Langkawi food called bronok, which to my understanding is some kind of sea cucumber. Another part of eating nasi campur are all the fresh vegetables that you can get to garnish your food, and I also got a few scoops of the sambal shrimp paste chili sauce as well. Once you pile up your plate, they judge how much your plate costs by how much you took. Sometimes you may only have a plate for about 6 MYR and other times, if you take a lot of meat and fish like I did you’ll have a bill more like 12 - 13 MYR - but I can guarantee it’s worth it.
I had no choice but to start with the bronok, which is some kind of a sea cucumber. The sea cucumber is sliced up raw and mixed with slices of green mango and onions and some spices as well. It’s one of the most famous dishes from Langkawi. I was expecting it to be more squishy and gelatinous, but on the contrary, it was very crisp, more like very firm squid or like a snail. That made me surprise from the start, but along with the crisp texture, the flavor ingredients of the salad were incredible. I could taste coconut, chilies, and green mango, which made the bronok salad incredible. Next I tried the ikan bakar, grilled fish, which was fantastic as always - fresh fish with a lovely roasted grilled flavor. The vegetables, which I’m not sure what they were, were crisp as well, and were nicely flavored with a hint of coconut milk. The eggplant was relatively plain, but it was nicely cooked so it was creamy all the way through. Another part of eating at Kak Yan Nasi Campur that I didn’t want to miss was eating the sambal chili sauces, combinations of shrimp paste and chilies and onions. Along with the garnishing vegetables and all the delicious curries, the sambal chili sauces were delicious. I loved our meal at Kak Yan Nasi Campur, it was the perfect way to end our trip to Langkawi.
After finishing our nasi campur meal, we headed straight to the airport, checked it and after saying goodbye to all the amazing people we met and spent time with, we boarded our plane. The flight to Penang just took a little over 30 minutes and we arrive to Penang, got our bag, and took a taxi directly to George Town where I had booked a hotel the day before.
We had an amazing 7 day trip to Langkawi, with so many memorable experiences, and delicious food. Thank you for watching these vlogs!

This vlog is from Day 7 of our Langkawi trip. We started the morning off at the hotel, and just finished some work before our driver picked us up at about 10:30 am. Our flight was at 1 pm, but before we caught our flight our of Langkawi, we need to have lunch. We drove directly over to a restaurant called Kak Yan Nasi Campur, famous throughout the island for serving rice and curry and an outstanding amount and supply of different dishes.
