Dougherty rmdougherty@argosy.edu We are dedicated Professional School Counselors and we love our jobs!  While challenging yet rewarding, we give and we give and we give.  When major crises or disasters occur, we jump into action and give even more.....but who is taking care of the caregivers? Who is taking care of us?  When it comes to a major crises or disaster, it is not IF it will happen, but WHEN it will happen.  This webinar will examine the definitions of compassion fatigue and how it is different from burnout.  Get strategies and ideas on how to identify compassion fatigue and how to nurture our students, families, school staff, AND ourselves after a major community crisis. Objectives: 1.       Participants will be able to compare and contrast compassion fatigue and burnout. 2.       Participants will be able to identify the signs of compassion fatigue 3.       Participants will be able to offer strategies to students, staff and families who are suffering from a major crisis situation 4.       Participants will be able to identify the steps needed to maintain a healthy body and mind before, during and after a major crisis    Dr. Rosine Dougherty is an Associate Professor for Argosy University in Sarasota, Florida. She is currently the Director of Training for College of Education.  As DOT, Dr. Dougherty is responsible for overseeing all internships in School Counseling, School Psychology and Education Administration. Dr. Dougherty's educational background includes a BA in Secondary Education from Arizona State University, an MA in Psychology from Eastern New Mexico University, an EdD in Counseling Psychology from the University of Sarasota and a graduate certificate in Educational Administration from Capella University.  She currently holds Professional certifications in New Mexico and Florida in School Guidance and Counseling, Educational Leadership and Teaching. She has been a teacher, school counselor and school principal for the past 40 years and has been a regional, state and national conference presenter in the subject areas of: accountability and data collection, ADD/ADHD, bullying and harassment in schools, compassion fatigue and counselor burnout, critical incident stress management, disaster response, mentoring, play therapy, and self injurious behavior. Dr. Dougherty is a member of the American Counseling Association, American School Counselor Association, Florida School Counselor Association, American Association of School Administrators, Florida Association of School Administrators and the American Society for Quality.
