Anthem Education Group

Anthem Education Group (formerly The Chubb Institute) is a Florida-based organization that operates a chain of private, for-profit, technical schools in the United States. As of November 2013, the company operated 34 campuses in various states and one online institution.

Founding

The organization was founded in 1970 as The Chubb Institute, the employee training arm of the Chubb Corporation, an insurance company. Its initial focus was on computer-related training, and training in medical fields was added later.

21st Century

Facing lawsuits and financial losses, Chubb Corporation put the school for sale in 2004 and eventually sold it for $1 to a partnership of private equity firm Great Hill Partners and the High-Tech Institute, a network of similar technical schools based in Phoenix, Arizona. Chubb Corporation recognized a $31 million loss from the sale.

The new owners struggled to rescue the chain at first. Facing a loss of $9 million in 2005, they invested millions and renamed several of the poorer performing schools. The location in Chicago had been renamed to Banner Institute in January 2006, and the location in Arlington, Virginia, had been christened Banner College. However, as of 2007, the Washington Post reported that the chain was still struggling with lawsuits and challenges to accreditation. Banner College in Virginia closed in August 2008 after ten years of operation there.

Anthem

An anthem is a musical composition of celebration, usually used as a symbol for a distinct group, particularly the national anthems of countries. Originally, and in music theory and religious contexts, it also refers more particularly to short sacred choral work and still more particularly to a specific form of Anglican church music.

Etymology

Anthem is derived from the Greek ἀντίφωνα (antíphōna) via Old English antefn. Both words originally referred to antiphons, a call-and-response style of singing. The adjectival form is "anthemic".

History

Anthems were originally a form of liturgical music. In the Church of England, the rubric appoints them to follow the third collect at morning and evening prayer. Several anthems are included in the British coronation service. The words are selected from Holy Scripture or in some cases from the Liturgy and the music is generally more elaborate and varied than that of psalm or hymn tunes. Being written for a trained choir rather than the congregation, the Anglican anthem is analogous to the motet of the Roman Catholic and Lutheran Churches but represents an essentially English musical form. Anthems may be described as "verse", "full", or "full with verse", depending on whether they are intended for soloists, the full choir, or both.

College

College (Latin: collegium) is an educational institution or a constituent part of one. Usage of the word college varies in English-speaking nations. A college may be a degree-awarding tertiary educational institution, a part of a collegiate university, or an institution offering vocational education.

In the United States and Italy, "college" formally refers to a constituent part of a university, but generally "college" and "university" are used interchangeably, whereas in Oceania and South Asia, "college" may refer to a secondary or high school, a college of further education, a training institution that awards trade qualifications, or a constituent part of a university (See this comparison of British and American English educational terminology for further information).

AEG

Allgemeine Elektricitäts-Gesellschaft AG (AEG) (German: "General electricity company") was founded as Deutsche Edison-Gesellschaft für angewandte Elektricität in 1883 in Berlin by Emil Rathenau and was a German producer of electrical equipment. After World War II Headquarters moved to Frankfurt am Main.

In 1967 AEG joined with her subsidiary Telefunken AG creating Allgemeine Elektricitäts-Gesellschaft AEG-Telefunken. In 1985 Daimler-Benz purchased the AEG-Telefunken Aktiengesellschaft, which was renamed to AEG Aktiengesellschaft and wholly integrated the company in 1996 into Daimler-Benz AG (1998:DaimlerChrysler). The remains of AEG became part of Adtranz and Deutsche Aerospace (1998: DASA, today EADS).

After acquiring the household subsidiary AEG Hausgeräte GmbH of AEG in 1994, in 2005 Electrolux obtained the rights to the brand name AEG, which it now uses on some of its products. The AEG name is also licensed to various brand partners under the Electrolux Global Brand Licensing programme.
