I've practically run out of children's computer games to walkthrough, so it's time to begin branching out. I decided to start off simple here - a walkthrough to a "remake" of Pac-Man. I had this game lying around on Namco Museum for the PS2, so I figured why not? This was originally on the Namco Classics Collection Volume 2 arcade game. The game plays mostly like the original Pac-Man, but there's several notable differences: -The game has a graphical and sound upgrade (no crap) -There are several different mazes rather than just the same one over and over -Power-ups. There's a red one that speeds you up, a pink one and a sack that traps the ghosts, a cane that turns them into presents, a blue one that mirrors your locations, and an orange one that gives you extra points. -Kinky, a new ghost. He's not your average ghost either. He appears at the ghost home and is always vulnerable, and if you eat him he acts as a power pellet. If you don't act soon enough, he'll turn a ghost into a large ghost, and each of them have special abilities. Pinky can jump across the maze, Blinky can charge horizontally, Inky can mirror his locations, and Clyde can respawn Pac-dots. I often get a little too focused on him. If you eat a vulnerable large ghost, they are double the points. -There is an option to continue. Since this is on the PS2, you can just continue infinitely, but your score will reset. -The dash arrows. They send you speeding across. If you cross a ghost, they will be stunned unless vulnerable. One thing that few people seem to know is that you can turn corners while using these. -Jump arrows. They send you to the other arrow of the same color. -There is a boss at the end of the game. In his first form, you have to keep eating Pac-dots until a power pellet appears. This will kill off the current color that is invading. In his second form, you have to keep eating Pac-dots until he eventually blows up. If you're wondering why I start with six lives, it's an option. I leave it on the highest setting so you don't see the continue screen every ten seconds. This is a pretty dang good remake of Pac-Man. The one thing I really like about it is that when you play with two players, you play simultaneously. It even compares your scores at the end of each level, which is a really nice touch. Multiplayer aside, the new features were also welcoming, although I do wish Kinky would appear less often. The other features, however, did do some contributing rather than just feeling tacked-on. It's a pretty good game, and it's definitely worth getting along with everything else Namco Museum on the PS2, Xbox, and Gamecube offer. I will be doing Galaga and Dig Dug Arrangement some time later.
