Daisy Ridley addresses a recent fan theory about her
Star Wars parentage and we’ve got the details! Who are Rey’s parents? According to
The Force Awakens’ Daisy Ridley, it doesn’t really matter. One of the biggest question marks fans were left with at the end of last year’s
Star Wars: The Force Awakens was who are Rey’s parents.
Following the release last week of the Rogue One:
A Star Wars Story trailer, many fans began theorizing that her mother could be
Felicity Jones’ “Jyn Erson”. At this weekend’s
MTV Movie Awards where
Ridley took home the award for “Breathrough
Performance” and the film won “
Movie of the Year”, Ridley addressed the rumor saying quote, “I’m not being funny you guys, but just because she’s white and got brown hair… it doesn’t mean she’s my mom.” She went on to suggest the timeline might not work out for that even to be a possibility. For those of you wondering, yes it is possible for Jyn to be Rey’s mother as she would have likely been in her late 30s to early
40s when she had her depending on Jyn’s age during the time of Rogue One. Ridley went on to reveal that she was told who Rey’s parents are while filming The Force Awakens, but as far as she’s concerned, who they are isn’t really that important. She explained that one of the best parts of The Force Awakens was that Rey and
Finn both came from nothing and we’re able to find a home and that it’s where you’re going that matters.
The people she’s meeting now are more important than where she came from. As for 2017’s
Episode 8, Ridley says the film will be much darker than the first and when asked if she’ll come into her own as a
Jedi, she responded quote, “I don’t know if I am a Jedi…I don’t think I am.” She compared Rey to
Leia asking if Leia is considered a Jedi since she doesn’t use her powers like
Luke, but that doesn’t make her any less
Forceful.
It’s an interesting question and gives us some clues into what we can expect from Rey when Episode 8 arrives in theaters on
December 15th, 2017, but what do you think? Do you think Jyn could be Rey’s mother and do you believe that who Rey’s parents are isn’t as important as she says?
