Perdido is the deepest floating oil rig (platform) in the world at a water depth of about 2450 meters operated by the Shell Oil Company in the Gulf of Mexico.
The Perdido is located in the Perdido fold belt which is a rich discovery of crude oil and natural gas that lies in water that is nearly 8000 feet deep. The platform's peak production will be 100,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day. At 267 meters, the Perdido is nearly as tall as the Eiffel Tower.
An oil rig is a large structure with facilities to drill wells, to extract and process oil and natural gas, and to temporarily store product until it can be brought to shore for refining and marketing. In many cases, the platform contains facilities to house the workforce as well.
The Troll A platform is a condeep offshore natural gas platform in the Troll gas field off the west coast of Norway. It is the tallest structure that has ever been moved to another position, relative to the surface of the Earth, and is among the largest and most complex engineering projects in history. The platform was a televised sensation when it was towed into the North Sea in 1996, where it is now operated by Statoil.
Troll A was built by Norwegian Contractors for Norske Shell, with base construction beginning in July 1991 at a cost of 4150 million NOK, or approximately US$650,000,000 at the time. The base and the deck were built separately, and were joined in 1995 while the base was partially submerged. The base is a Condeep gravity base structure built from reinforced concrete.
The Troll platform was towed over 200 kilometres (120 mi) from Vats, in the northern part of Rogaland, to the Troll field, 80 kilometres (50 mi) north-west of Bergen. The tow took seven days.

The world’s biggest oil platform has begun commercial production at the Sakhalin-1 offshore project in Russia’s Far East. The Berkut oil rig is expected to extract 4.5 million tons of oil annually.
The Sakhalin-1 Consortium was formed in 1996 is the first major shelf project in Russia created under terms of a Product Sharing Agreement (PSA). The international consortium is made up of the US major ExxonMobil (30 percent), Japan's Sodeco (30 percent), Russia’s Rosneft (20 percent) and India's ONGC Videsh (20 percent).
The total cost of the project is estimated to be $10-12 billion, making it the largest direct foreign investment in Russia.
The Berkut platform is expected to produce 12,000 tons of oil daily or about 4.5 million tons annually, raising the total output of the Sakhalin-1 Consortium to 27,000 tons a day.
Oil from the Arkutun-Dagi oil field will be processed at the Chaivo onshore treatment facility and then delivered by a pipeline to the DeKastri oil export terminal.
The tax revenues from oil produced by the Berkut platform will provide Russia’s regional and federal budgets with no less than $9 billion over the next ten years.

On an offshore oil platform, topsides (c.f. jacket structure, which constitutes the lower half of the platform structure, partly submerged in sea) refers to the upper half of the structure, above the sea level, outside the splash zone, on which equipment is installed. This includes the oil production plant, the accommodation block and the drilling rig. They are often modular in design and so can be changed out if necessary allowing expensive platforms to be more readily updated with newer technology.

Gulf of Mexico drilling rig has partially collapsed off the coast of Louisiana after catching fire because of a ruptured natural gas well, U.S. regulators said on Wednesday.
Firefighters are continuing to tackle the blaze, which broke out after a blowout on the Hercules 265 natural gas platform at around 10:45 p.m. local time Monday.
Eileen Angelico, a spokeswoman for the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement, said no one was on board when the fire started and it was not known what sparked it.

Amazing action at the Gazprom oil platform where, for the first time in history, shots were fired at the Greenpeace activists. You can see the bullets entering the water just beside one of the RIBs.
Greenpeace is protesting at Shell and Gazprom oil rigs because both companies have proven to be unable to drill safely for oil in the pristine Arctic. Especially Gazprom has a very bad environmental record. We only have to wait for a spill which they cannot clean up and has the potential to destroy large parts of the "refrigirator of our planet".
Although this drilling does provide jobs (honestly paid?) it will merely benefit the rich (senior management & shareholders). Greenpeace has proven [Energy (R)evolution] that changing our current addiction to burning fossil fuels into a move for clean energy will provide more and cleaner jobs than this old (and finite) energy industry will ever be able to do.

An oil platform, also referred to as an offshore platform or, somewhat incorrectly, oil rig, is a large structure with facilities to drill wells, to extract and process oil and natural gas, and to temporarily store product until it can be brought to shore for refining and marketing. Depending on the circumstances, the platform may be fixed to the ocean floor, may consist of an artificial island, or may float.
Remote subsea wells may also be connected to a platform by flow lines and by umbilical connections; these subsea solutions may consist of one or more subsea wells, or of one or more manifold centres for multiple wells.
Around 1891 the first submerged oil wells were drilled from platforms built on piles in the fresh waters of the Grand Lake St. Marys (a.k.a. Mercer County Reservoir) in Ohio. The wide but shallow reservoir was built from 1837 to 1845 to provide water to the Miami and Erie Canal.
Around 1896 the first submerged oil wells in salt water were drilled in the portion of the Summerland field extending under the Santa Barbara Channel in California. The wells were drilled from piers extending from land out into the channel.

WC643 is an abondoned Oil and Gas production platform in the Gulf of Mexico. This video was taken when I flew a few guys out to do their checks just to make sure the place was still there. Apparently a hurricane hit the Gulf so the workers evacuated fully expecting to come back. However the pipeline was destroyed and the cost of repairing it wasn't worth it for what this platform produces. -

Amazing action at the Gazprom oil platform where, for the first time in history, shots were fired at the Greenpeace activists. You can see the bullets entering the water just beside one of the RIBs. Greenpeace is protesting at Shell and Gazprom oil rigs because both companies have proven to be unable to drill safely for oil in the pristine Arctic. Especially Gazprom has a very bad environmental record. We only have to wait for a spill which they cannot clean up and has the potential to destroy large parts of the "refrigirator of our planet". Although this drilling does provide jobs (honestly paid?) it will merely benefit the rich (senior management & shareholders). WC643 is an abondoned Oil and Gas production platform in the Gulf of Mexico. This video was taken when I flew a few guys out to do their checks just to make sure the place was still there. Apparently a hurricane hit the Gulf so the workers evacuated fully expecting to come back. However the pipeline was destroyed and the cost of repairing it wasn't worth it for what this platform produces. -

The course consists of four modules; Safety Induction, Helicopter Safety and Escape (HUET), Sea Survival and First Aid, Fire Fighting and Self Rescue. Helicopter Underwater Egress Training in the United States, and Helicopter Underwater Escape Training in most other countries, (often abbreviated HUET, pronounced hue-wet, hue-way or you-way) is training provided to offshore oil and gas industry staff and military personnel who are regularly transported to and from facilities by helicopters over water. How Vega oil offshore platform works
Vega oil field is located in the Sicilian Channel, 20 km south of Pozzallo (Italy). In production since 1987, Vega platform was developed with 24 wells, and located in 130 metres of water. The platform can process 60.000 barrels of oil per day. Close to Vega platform there’s a floating storage and offloading tanker (Leonis) with a capacity of 110,000 tons to temporary store production. The crude oil is transported from the Leonis to refineries by tankers shuttles. -

The world’s biggest oil platform has begun commercial production at the Sakhalin-1 offshore project in Russia’s Far East. The Berkut oil rig is expected to extract 4.5 million tons of oil annually.
The Sakhalin-1 Consortium was formed in 1996 is the first major shelf project in Russia created under terms of a Product Sharing Agreement (PSA). The international consortium is made up of the US major ExxonMobil (30 percent), Japan's Sodeco (30 percent), Russia’s Rosneft (20 percent) and India's ONGC Videsh (20 percent).
The total cost of the project is estimated to be $10-12 billion, making it the largest direct foreign investment in Russia.
The Berkut platform is expected to produce 12,000 tons of oil daily or about 4.5 million tons annually, raising the total output of the Sakhalin-1 Consortium to 27,000 tons a day.
Oil from the Arkutun-Dagi oil field will be processed at the Chaivo onshore treatment facility and then delivered by a pipeline to the DeKastri oil export terminal.
The tax revenues from oil produced by the Berkut platform will provide Russia’s regional and federal budgets with no less than $9 billion over the next ten years.

Helicopter Underwater Egress Training in the United States, and Helicopter Underwater Escape Training in most other countries, (often abbreviated HUET, pronounced hue-wet, hue-way or you-way) is training provided to offshore oil and gas industry staff and military personnel who are regularly transported to and from facilities by helicopters over water. As the name implies, the purpose is to prepare them for emergency exit in the case of a crash landing over water.

Vega oil field is located in the Sicilian Channel, 20 km south of Pozzallo (Italy). In production since 1987, Vega platform was developed with 24 wells, and located in 130 metres of water.
The platform can process 60.000 barrels of oil per day. Close to Vega platform there’s a floating storage and offloading tanker (Leonis) with a capacity of 110,000 tons to temporary store production.
The crude oil is transported from the Leonis to refineries by tankers shuttles.
