ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — Joe Gambardella scored at 1:37 of overtime to give Massachussets-Lowell a 3-2 victory over Yale on Saturday night in the NCAA East Regional semifinals.
The River Hawks (26-9-5) will face Quinnipiac on Sunday for a spot in the Frozen Four in Tampa, Florida. Quinnipiac beat RIT 4-0 in the first semifinal.
Gambardella took a pass from Tommy Panico in the high slot and beat goalie Alex Lyon with a wrist shot. Gambardella also scored the tying goal at 6:12 of the third period.
Michael Fallon opened the scoring for Lowell early in the first period. Frankie Dichiara tied it late in the first, and Ryan Hitchcock gave Yale (19-9-4) the lead midway through the second.
Kevin Boyle made 35 saves for Lowell, and Lyon stopped 28 shots for Yale.
