Samuel Edward Konkin III
Samuel Edward Konkin III (8 July 1947 – 23 February 2004), also known as SEK3, was the author of the publication New Libertarian Manifesto and a proponent of a political philosophy which he named agorism.
Personal life
Konkin was born in Saskatchewan, to Samuel Edward Konkin II and Helen. He had one brother, Alan. He married Sheila Wymer during 1990 and had one son, Samuel Evans-Konkin IV. The marriage ended soon afterward. Konkin was also notable for his style of dress: "To show his anarchist beliefs, he dressed completely in black, a color associated with that movement since the late nineteenth century."
On 23 February 2004, Konkin died in his apartment in West Los Angeles, California, of natural causes. He was buried alongside his father in Edmonton, Alberta.
Political opinions
Konkin considered libertarianism as radical. He was an initiator of the Agorist Institute.
Konkin rejected voting, believing it to be inconsistent with libertarian ethics. He likewise opposed involvement with the US Libertarian Party, which he regarded as a statist co-option of libertarianism. He was an opponent of influential minarchist philosopher Robert Nozick, and referred to Nozick's devotees as "Nozis."

On March 28, 2004 at the Alpine Village Restaurant in Torrance, California, the Karl Hess Club held a memorial for libertarian icon Samuel Edward Konkin III who had passed away on February 23rd. J. Sam died of natural causes in his apartment exactly 17 years ago, on February 23, 2004. Since then, I have stored box upon box of his personal papers, letters, and emails to and from libertarian luminaries, calendars, planners, and notes written in his nearly indecipherable longhand. I think these are of profound importance to the Agorist community and Libertarianism in general, and my goal is to digitize every existing issue of the various incarnations of Sam’s NEW LIBERTARIAN publications, as well as his personal papers, articles in other publications, letters, notes, and fanzines — and make them available on a single website to researchers, activists, entrepreneurs, and the generally curious.
By my estimate, there are over 2600 pages just of Sam’s publications that need to be scanned in at high resolution of at least 600 DPI. That’s not even counting his handwritten personal papers!
In addition, I possess the original videotapes and audiotapes that I recorded for courses he taught at THE AGORIST INSTITUTE and speeches he gave elsewhere in the late 1980s, which need to be converted from VHS and audiocassette to digital video and lossless digital audio formats. The videos have to be converted and cleaned up and the sound quality improved. In some cases, I have both a videotape and a simultaneous audiotape with much better sound than the VHS tape has. Some mixing will have to be done.
But I can’t do it on my own, in my spare time, as a hobby, while I work at a regular job. The clock is ticking as inevitable mortality takes its toll on the O.G. Agorists. Sam died in 2004. His friends and allies J. Neil Schulman and Brad Linaweaver died in 2019. New Libertarian contributors such as Murray Rothbard, Karl Hess, Robert Shea, Robert Anton Wilson, Kerry Thornley, Chris Tame, Bill Patterson, Butler Shaffer and others are all dead. And I’m no spring chicken, so I want to make THE AGORIST ARCHIVES my primary focus for 2021.
That’s where you come in. Your donation to this project — Help Save the Agorist Archives of Samuel Edward Konkin III — will enable me to devote the major portion of my workdays to digitizing these aging — and in some cases, fragile, nearly half-century-old — documents as well as digitizing the video and audio before the tapes become brittle and unreadable. A member of the Organization of American Historians and a senior fellow at the Randolph Bourne Institute, he has written for such newspapers as the New York Times, USA Today, the Los Angeles Times, and the San Francisco Chronicle; such magazines as Reason, Inquiry, and Liberty; and such websites as LewRockwell.com, AntiWar.com, and RationalReview.com. His writings include In Praise of Decadence (1998), Why American History Is Not What They Say: An Introduction to Revisionism (2009), and Persuaded by Reason: Joan Kennedy Taylor & the Rebirth of American Individualism (2014). Robert Poole is one of the founders of the Reason Foundation (which publishes Reason magazine), and served as its president and CEO from 1978 to 2000. He is currently director of transportation policy at the Reason Foundation and frequently writes about issues related to privatization.
Samuel Konkin authored and published several periodicals during his lifetime, including the New Libertarian Weekly (1975-1978) and the New Libertarian (1978-1990). He was a proponent of left-libertarianism and a political philosophy he developed called agorism. He passed away in 2004.
In this video, Poole and Konkin engage in a spirited debate over what constitutes libertarian beliefs, how broadly libertarianism should be defined, and how best to apply the principles of libertarianism to make the world a freer, more prosperous place.

Im Frankfurter Stadtteil Höchst hat sich ein Mann in seiner Wohnung verschanzt, nachdem Polizisten ihn hatten verhaften wollen. Er flüchtete aufs Dach und konnte dort später festgenommen werden. Die Polizei sperrte am Mittwoch den Bereich um das Wohnhaus des Mannes in der Adolf-Häuser-Straße nahe dem Bahnhof Höchst ab. Zu dem massiven Vorgehen der Beamten mit Spezialkräften sagte ein Sprecher, der 29-Jährige habe in der Vergangenheit mit Waffen zu tun gehabt. Der Mann versuchte offenbar, über das Dach des Hauses zu flüchten. Psychologisch geschulte Beamte versuchten, mit ihm in Kontakt zu treten. Gegen 18.40 Uhr sei er von spezialisierten Einsatzkräften festgenommen worden, wie die Polizei am Abend mitteilte. Der Einsatz sei damit ohne Verletzte beendet worden. Den Angaben zufolge hatte...

Im Frankfurter Stadtteil Höchst hat sich ein Mann in seiner Wohnung verschanzt, nachdem Polizisten ihn hatten verhaften wollen. Er flüchtete aufs Dach und konnte dort später festgenommen werden.
Die Polizei sperrte am Mittwoch den Bereich um das Wohnhaus des Mannes in der Adolf-Häuser-Straße nahe dem Bahnhof Höchst ab. Zu dem massiven Vorgehen der Beamten mit Spezialkräften sagte ein Sprecher, der 29-Jährige habe in der Vergangenheit mit Waffen zu tun gehabt.
Der Mann versuchte offenbar, über das Dach des Hauses zu flüchten. Psychologisch geschulte Beamte versuchten, mit ihm in Kontakt zu treten. Gegen 18.40 Uhr sei er von spezialisierten Einsatzkräften festgenommen worden, wie die Polizei am Abend mitteilte. Der Einsatz sei damit ohne Verletzte beendet worden.
Den Angaben zufolge hatte eine Polizeistreife den Mann verhaften wollen. Er habe sich daraufhin in seiner Wohnung verschanzt. Der Grund für den Haftbefehl war zunächst nicht bekannt. Für Dritte ging den Angaben zufolge keine Gefahr aus.
Wegen des Einsatzes kam es zu Behinderungen im Bahnverkehr. Laut Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund (RMV) fuhren die S-Bahnen der Linien S1 und S2 nur im 30-Minuten-Takt.
Die Sperrung der Gleise wurde später aufgehoben. Laut Bahn sollte es auch danach noch zu Folgeverspätungen, kurzfristigen Teilausfällen und vereinzelten Umleitungen kommen. Auch der Busbahnhof wurde zwischenzeitlich gesperrt.

If you’ve ever heard the words Agorism or Counter-Economics, then you might know that these revolutionary anarcho-libertarian concepts were the brainchild of Samuel Edward Konkin III, also known as SEK3. This video introduces the GoFundMe project to digitize his papers: https://gofund.me/a9bf6070
Sam died of natural causes in his apartment exactly 17 years ago, on February 23, 2004. Since then, I have stored box upon box of his personal papers, letters, and emails to and from libertarian luminaries, calendars, planners, and notes written in his nearly indecipherable longhand. I think these are of profound importance to the Agorist community and Libertarianism in general, and my goal is to digitize every existing issue of the various incarnations of Sam’s NEW LIBERTARIAN publications, as well as his personal papers, articles in other publications, letters, notes, and fanzines — and make them available on a single website to researchers, activists, entrepreneurs, and the generally curious.
By my estimate, there are over 2600 pages just of Sam’s publications that need to be scanned in at high resolution of at least 600 DPI. That’s not even counting his handwritten personal papers!
In addition, I possess the original videotapes and audiotapes that I recorded for courses he taught at THE AGORIST INSTITUTE and speeches he gave elsewhere in the late 1980s, which need to be converted from VHS and audiocassette to digital video and lossless digital audio formats. The videos have to be converted and cleaned up and the sound quality improved. In some cases, I have both a videotape and a simultaneous audiotape with much better sound than the VHS tape has. Some mixing will have to be done.
But I can’t do it on my own, in my spare time, as a hobby, while I work at a regular job. The clock is ticking as inevitable mortality takes its toll on the O.G. Agorists. Sam died in 2004. His friends and allies J. Neil Schulman and Brad Linaweaver died in 2019. New Libertarian contributors such as Murray Rothbard, Karl Hess, Robert Shea, Robert Anton Wilson, Kerry Thornley, Chris Tame, Bill Patterson, Butler Shaffer and others are all dead. And I’m no spring chicken, so I want to make THE AGORIST ARCHIVES my primary focus for 2021.
That’s where you come in. Your donation to this project — Help Save the Agorist Archives of Samuel Edward Konkin III — will enable me to devote the major portion of my workdays to digitizing these aging — and in some cases, fragile, nearly half-century-old — documents as well as digitizing the video and audio before the tapes become brittle and unreadable. On March 28, 2004 at the Alpine Village Restaurant in Torrance, California, the Karl Hess Club held a memorial for libertarian icon Samuel Edward Konkin III who had passed away on February 23rd.
J. Neil Schulman acted as Master of Ceremonies. Paying tribute to SEK3 were his brother Alan and many of SEK3's closest friends and admirers, including Congressman Dana Rohrabacher, Brad Linaweaver, J. Kent Hastings, Victor Koman, Jeff Riggenbach, Manny Klausner, and many others.

Robert Poole is one of the founders of the Reason Foundation (which publishes Reason magazine), and served as its president and CEO from 1978 to 2000. He is currently director of transportation policy at the Reason Foundation and frequently writes about issues related to privatization.
Samuel Konkin authored and published several periodicals during his lifetime, including the New Libertarian Weekly (1975-1978) and the New Libertarian (1978-1990). He was a proponent of left-libertarianism and a political philosophy he developed called agorism. He passed away in 2004.
In this video, Poole and Konkin engage in a spirited debate over what constitutes libertarian beliefs, how broadly libertarianism should be defined, and how best to apply the principles of libertarianism to make the world a freer, more prosperous place.

Samuel Edward Konkin III
Samuel Edward Konkin III (8 July 1947 – 23 February 2004), also known as SEK3, was the author of the publication New Libertarian Manifesto and a proponent of a political philosophy which he named agorism.
Personal life
Konkin was born in Saskatchewan, to Samuel Edward Konkin II and Helen. He had one brother, Alan. He married Sheila Wymer during 1990 and had one son, Samuel Evans-Konkin IV. The marriage ended soon afterward. Konkin was also notable for his style of dress: "To show his anarchist beliefs, he dressed completely in black, a color associated with that movement since the late nineteenth century."
On 23 February 2004, Konkin died in his apartment in West Los Angeles, California, of natural causes. He was buried alongside his father in Edmonton, Alberta.
Political opinions
Konkin considered libertarianism as radical. He was an initiator of the Agorist Institute.
Konkin rejected voting, believing it to be inconsistent with libertarian ethics. He likewise opposed involvement with the US Libertarian Party, which he regarded as a statist co-option of libertarianism. He was an opponent of influential minarchist philosopher Robert Nozick, and referred to Nozick's devotees as "Nozis."

Im Frankfurter Stadtteil Höchst hat sich ein Mann in seiner Wohnung verschanzt, nachdem Polizisten ihn hatten verhaften wollen. Er flüchtete aufs Dach und konnte dort später festgenommen werden.
Die Polizei sperrte am Mittwoch den Bereich um das Wohnhaus des Mannes in der Adolf-Häuser-Straße nahe dem Bahnhof Höchst ab. Zu dem massiven Vorgehen der Beamten mit Spezialkräften sagte ein Sprecher, der 29-Jährige habe in der Vergangenheit mit Waffen zu tun gehabt.
Der Mann versuchte offenbar, über das Dach des Hauses zu flüchten. Psychologisch geschulte Beamte versuchten, mit ihm in Kontakt zu treten. Gegen 18.40 Uhr sei er von spezialisierten Einsatzkräften festgenommen worden, wie die Polizei am Abend mitteilte. Der Einsatz sei damit ohne Verletzte beendet worden.
Den Angaben zufolge hatte eine Polizeistreife den Mann verhaften wollen. Er habe sich daraufhin in seiner Wohnung verschanzt. Der Grund für den Haftbefehl war zunächst nicht bekannt. Für Dritte ging den Angaben zufolge keine Gefahr aus.
Wegen des Einsatzes kam es zu Behinderungen im Bahnverkehr. Laut Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund (RMV) fuhren die S-Bahnen der Linien S1 und S2 nur im 30-Minuten-Takt.
Die Sperrung der Gleise wurde später aufgehoben. Laut Bahn sollte es auch danach noch zu Folgeverspätungen, kurzfristigen Teilausfällen und vereinzelten Umleitungen kommen. Auch der Busbahnhof wurde zwischenzeitlich gesperrt.
