UKZN WESTVILLE PROTEST
SRC&PYA;
2015
MEMORANDUM OF DEMANDS (2015)
It has recently come to our attention as the
Westville SASCO Branch that the university management has been reluctant in responding to a number of issues that affect our constituency (students). We feel that most of these issues should have long been resolved but have not for reasons only healthier known by the university management.
We the Westville SASCO Branch demand that:-
1. All students who qualify for
Financial Aid to be funded with immediate effect, regardless of the evil
Robot System that aims to eliminate African child blacks in particular.
2. All postgraduate students who qualify for
Financial aid to be funded with immediate effect.
3.
Zero fee increment for
Tuition and Residence as we agreed in the
Negotiation we had last year.
4. All students who are on
RAC process be approved regardless of the evil Robot System but based on reasons provided.
5. More residences be made available for the students without residence;
6. An immediate training workshop for the staff and managers of the department of
Student Housing which will speak to the issue of paralysis and inefficiency of the department;
7. A new service provider for cleaning services in residence should be appointed as soon as possible not another pathetic service provider like the current ones.
8. All degrees that are offered for students from previously disadvantaged and impoverished communities should have compulsory financial aid packages.
9. NSFAS should be administered by the Student Funding
Centre and not faculties.
10. The campus clinic should be open for 24 hours with full time doctors and nurses and an emergency services which are always on standby (i.e. an ambulance).
11. The intercampus bus service should be improved.
12. The management of the
Risk Management Services (
RMS) reviews the use of dogs when patrolling as they have proved to pose more danger to students by attacking our students rather than protecting them.
13. There is provision made for a study room in DH, Millarosa and
Santacruz
14. All study rooms must be refurbished so that they are conducive for students to study after hours when the library has closed.
15. The issue of cold water in new res must be resolved with immediate effect.
16.
Prof Watkeys must go.
17. All sport codes must be treated equally.
The university will come to a standstill until all these matters are resolved.
