Lina Romay (born Rosa María Almirall Martínez; 25 June 1954 – 15 February 2012) was a Catalan actress who often appeared in films directed by her long-time companion (and later husband) Jesús Franco. She died in 2012, at age 57, from cancer in Málaga, Spain. Her husband Franco died a year later in 2013.
Romay was born in Barcelona. Following graduation from high school, she studied the arts, married actor/photographer Ramon Ardid (they later divorced), and began acting in stage productions. She began appearing in Jesús Franco's films from the time that they met in 1971. She appeared in more than a hundred feature films, most of them directed by Franco. The majority of their films together were in the adult film genre, but she has also starred in many horror, comedy and action/adventure films as well. Among the most famous of her cult horror movies are The Bare Breasted Countess (aka Female Vampire), Jack the Ripper, Exorcisms and Black Masses, and Barbed Wire Dolls. She took the name Lina Romay from the actress and jazz artist from the 1940s.
Jesús "Jess" Franco (born Jesús Franco Manera; 12 May 1930 – 2 April 2013) was a Spanish film director, writer, composer, cinematographer and actor.
Franco started out in 1954 (at age 24) as an assistant director in the Spanish film industry, performing many tasks including composing music for some of the films as well as co-writing a number of the screenplays. He assisted a number of well-known directors such as Joaquin Romero Marchent, Leon Klimovsky and Juan Antonio Bardem. After working on more than 20 films, he decided to get into directing films in 1959, making a few musicals and a crime drama called Red Lips.
In 1960, Franco took Marius Lesoeur, a producer friend, to a cinema to see the newly released Hammer horror film The Brides of Dracula and the two decided to get into the horror film business. His career took off in 1961 with his cult classic The Awful Dr. Orloff (aka Gritos en la noche), which received wide distribution in the United States and the UK. Franco wrote and directed Orloff, and even supplied some of the music for the film. In the mid-1960s, he went on to direct two other horror films, then proceeded to turn out a number of James Bond-like spy thrillers and softcore sex films based on the works of the Marquis de Sade (which remained one of his major influences throughout his career). Though he had some American box office success with Necronomicon (1967), 99 Women (1968) and two 1969 Christopher Lee films — The Bloody Judge and Count Dracula — he never achieved wide commercial success.
Lina is a common female given name in Sweden, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, especially among those born after 1980. In 2011 it was one of the most popular female given names in Germany. It was initially used as a shortened form of names such as Karolina, Nikolina, Adelina, Evelina and Paulina. Since "-lina" is a diminutive suffix, it has no meaning of its own in Swedish. The Danish and Norwegian form is "Line".
Lina is also a short form of any female name ending in "-lina", such as Angelina, Evangelina, Carolina, Melina.
Lina is the female form of Linas, a common given name among people of Lithuanian descent. It can also be construed as a rare feminine form of Linus.
In the Russian language, Lina (Ли́на) is a diminutive form of the female name Avelina.
In Arabic "Lina" (لينة) refers to a small, young palm tree. It means "tender" or "tenderness". In Greek it refers to the olive crown used for the hero.
The name Lina also has roots in France and China. In Chinese, "Li" (丽) means "pretty" and "Na" (娜) means "elegant".

"A lengthy sit-down video interview with Jess Franco and Lina Romay (the cutest couple in showbiz) that rambles over Franco's entire career (pre-1991) as well as following many conversational tangents. Lengthy discussions of the film business, and Franco's directorial approach and craft. Franco reveals himself to be a man of real taste, vastly preferring Beatty's Dick Tracy to Burton's Batman, and offers some intriguing opinions – for instance, he wishes that his early B & W films would be colourized, because he only made them in B & W to save money."

In September 2009, I, creator of SoledadMiranda.com and the undisputed queen of Soledad Miranda research in the world, had the unbelievable chance to interview someone who not only knew her very well, but was responsible for her lasting fame: Jess Franco. You can read an account of the circumstances here: http://soledadmiranda.com/fantastic.html For the past five years the interview has existed in text form on my website, but now I have a good microphone so I held the mini tape player up to the microphone to preserve Jess's words (RIP) digitally forever, and share them with the rest of the world. I decided to interview him primarily in French because he was supposedly better in French than English, and I do speak French. The interview switches at times to English per Jess, but the whole...
