      The conflict in South Sudan resulted in loss of lives and properties and deprived South Sudanese from realising their livelihood and dreams of an independent Country. The conflict reversed the gains that were made since the signing of the comprehensive peace agreement in 2005. Many of you perhaps might have heard through media reports or know about the Peace Agreement signed last year in August 2015 on Resolution of the Conflict in Republic of South Sudan ( ARCRSS).

He arrived in Juba determined to help South Sudanese doctors improve their performance. “I volunteer because civil services here are struggling. They don’t have trained specialists in health. When you are in the medical field, you want to help. There is a huge demand for health service in Africa and as an African I want to help my people,” he explained

      The United Nations Institute of Research and Training (UNITAR) Hiroshima Office and the Embassy of Japan in South Sudan, together with the Government of South Sudan, announced the conclusion of the 2015 Cycle of the UNITAR South Sudan Fellowship Programme and launched the next 2016 Cycle.

      Vice President James Wani Igga and Deputy Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General, Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator, and UNDP Resident Representative to South Sudan Mr Eugene Awusu on Wednesday launched the first South Sudan National Human Development Report 2015 at the Freedom Hall in the capital Juba.

    • South Sudanese diaspora discusses transitional justice in South Sudan

      The South Sudan Law Society, supported by UNDP, held a one-day workshop entitled “New Beginnings: Transitional Justice in South Sudan.” The workshop was a follow-up event to a three-day international conference organised in Juba in November 2015, which brought together South Sudanese, regional and international experts to generate recommendations for the mechanisms of transitional justice and national reconciliation provided by the Agreement on the Resolution of Conflict in the Republic of South Sudan (ARCISS).

    • Japan Embassy and UNDP handover vehicle to the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs

      A handover ceremony was held on December 15, 2015 at the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, where H.E. Shigeru Hamano, Deputy Chief of Mission in the Japanese Embassy, and Mr Balázs Horváth, UNDP Country Director officially turned over keys to a 4X4 Toyota Land-cruiser to Hon. Clement Dominic Taban, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management.

      UNDP attended the South Sudanese Peace Festival. The event under the theme: “Come Together” was organised by Initiative for Peace Communication Association (IPCA) with support from UNDP. “Today’s festival is a unique occasion to acknowledge the importance of national unity and equitable respect for cultural diversity. It helps to deepen the understanding of the values of cultural richness as a national asset,” said UNDP South Sudan Country Director, Mr. Balázs Horváth.
