Veni Mater Gratiae
Music: Veni Mater Gratiae
Historical note:
The text for the sequence 'Veni Mater Gratiae' was composed in 1415 for the Council of Constance which put an end to the Great Western Schism. After it was taken to England, the present melody and the last two stanzas of text were added. This prayer begs the Mother of God to defend the faithful from error, heresy, and schism.

Lake Konstanz, Euro road trip. After the Council of Constance, the Latin speaking Catholic world gave the lake its current international name. It was derived from the city name Constantia (Latin name of Konstanz), that, in turn, was named after a Roman emperor (either Constantius Chlorus or his grandson Constantius II). The German name, Bodensee, derives on the other hand from the town name Bodman (today's Bodman-Ludwigshafen) that is situated at a nearby branch of the lake just some 8 km north-west of Konstanz.

Once there was a time when the common people didn't have Bibles. Think of it! Almost no Bibles anywhere. They weren't allowed to have them. Then came a man who determined to give the Bible to his people. --- HISTORICAL DATING OF THIS CHAPTER: All the events about John Wycliffe (1328-1415) occurred between A.D. 1328 and 1415. He became pastor of Lutterworth in 1374; and, in 1377, papal bulls were hurled against him. Two rival popes were elected in 1378— and the Great Schism began. Their fighting lasted until 1415. Between 1382 and 1384, Wycliffe translated the Bible into English. The events concerning John Huss and Jerome happened between 1396 and 1428. He was appointed rector of the university church and the Bethlehem chapel in 1402. His denunciations of corruption began in 1405, and Prague was placed under interdict in 1412. The Council of Constance (1414-1418) burned Huss in 1415, and Jerome in 1416. The Hussite Wars lasted until 1434.

Forerunners Of Luther - Wycliffe & Hus
Forerunners Of Luther:
Wyclif And Hus
1. John Wyclif and John Hus could almost be considered English and Czech
Waldenses. Not quite. They had a history of their own outside the Roman
Church.
2. Wyclif was an Oxford professor who also professed a more orthodox Christianity, beginning with an attack on transubstantiation, an advocacy of saving
personal faith, and a free independent church.
3. If he had not had the support of the nobleman John of Gaunt, he could have met
martyrdom in this world rather than the posthumous martyrdom of having his
bones dug up by the Roman Church, burned, and ashes cast into the waters.
4. John of Gaunt and other nobles felt they could defend Wyclif no longer when his
attacks on the church became more radical.
5. Wyclif, in ill health, retired to Lutterworth, where he died in 1384, an even
century before the birth of Luther. But not before, like Luther, in exile he did his
most important literary work of beginning the translation of the Bible.
6. Luther was never to call himself a Wyclifite but a Hussite.
7. Though Hus was a foreign disciple of Wyclif, it was he who suffered martyrdom
at the Council of Constance for principles Luther was later to adopt.
8. Hus had caught the Gospel contagion from Wyclif, expressing it in various ways,
including a demand of the cup for the laity.
9. The “utraquists” (communion in both kinds) could not be tolerated by the
church, though Christ had so instituted the Supper.
10. The principle of the Reformation is now alive: Individuals finding for themselves
biblical truths denied by the church who will part with their lives rather than
those principles.

personal faith, and a free independent church.

The Palace of the Kings of Majorca (French: Palais des Rois de Majorque), is a palace and a fortress with gardens overlooking the city of Perpignan in Pyrenees-Orientales, Languedoc-Roussillon, France.
History
The Kingdom of Majorca (1276-1349)
In 1276, King James II of Majorca made Perpignan the capital of the Kingdom of Majorca. He started to build a palace with gardens on the hill of Puig del rey on the south of the town, the architects were Ramon Pau, Pons Descoll, and Bernat Quer with completion in 1309.
Ending the Western Schism
In 1415, the Holy Roman Emperor, Sigismund of Luxemburg, organised a European summit in Perpignan, to convince the Avignon Antipope Benedict XIII to resign his office and take to an end the Western Schism through the Council of Constance. On 20 September 1415, the Emperor met with Pope Benedict XIII at the palace with the King Ferdinand I of Aragon and the delegations of the Counts of Foix, Provence, Savoy, Lorraine, the embassy of the Roman church for the Council of Constance, and embassies from the Kings of France, England, Hungary, Castille and Navarre. The pope refused to resign and to recognise the Pope that the Council had chosen, clashing with the emperor who left Perpignan on 5 November.
The Franco-Spanish wars
Part of the northern wing of the palace was destroyed in a siege in 1502. Following the Treaty of the Pyrenees in 1659, France gained Roussillon, and proceed to develop the defensive features of the palace.
The General Council of the Pyrénées-Orientales bought the Palace and the gardens in 1958, to the Ministry of Defence who keeps the Vauban bastions and 19th century buildings and courts as a garrison. **Source from wikipedia**
