Helen Kelly

Helen Kelly (born c.1965) is a former President of the New Zealand Council of Trade Unions. She held the role from 2007 until October 2015, stepping down due to her ongoing battle with cancer.

Early life

Kelly's father was Pat Kelly, a well-known unionist, who died in 2004. Her parents met selling a communist newspaper, People's Voice. She has said of her childhood:

Kelly attended Wellington High School. She later studied law and education at Victoria University of Wellington.

Career

Kelly started her career as a primary school teacher, working for three years at Johnsonville Main School. She enjoyed the job, but quickly became more involved in union affairs.

Kelly began her involvement with unions through her involvement in teaching unions. She was made a delegate on her first day teaching. She held senior positions with both the New Zealand Institute of Education and the Association of University Staff (AUS, now the New Zealand Tertiary Education Union). She was the youngest woman to ever be appointed as a general secretary of the AUS, a position she held at AUS for five years until her election as CTU President in 2007.

Kelly (Kelly Price album)

Kelly is the fifth studio album by American R&B singer-songwriter Kelly Price released on May 3, 2011 on the labels My Block Records and Malaco Records. The album received three Grammy nominations at the 54th Annual Grammy Awards, for Best R&B Song, Best R&B Performance (both for the song "Not My Daddy") and Best R&B Album. Price arranged all of the vocals on the album.

Kelly (Australian TV series)

Kelly is an Australian children's television series that first screened on Network Ten in 1991. The series was produced by Jonathan M. Shiff Productions and featured the adventures of a former police dog called Kelly.

Plot

Kelly is a highly trained German Shepherd police dog who needs to recover from an injury on duty. Sergeant Mike Patterson sends him to stay with his son's family. Kelly becomes the constant companion of Jo Patterson, Mike's granddaughter, and her friend Danny Foster. Kelly has many classic adventures with the family and other friends, and was considered Australia's answer to 'Lassie' and 'The Littlest Hobo.

Hélène (song)

"Hélène" is a 1989 pop song recorded by the Canadian singer Roch Voisine. It was the first single from his first studio album Hélène, and was released in November 1989. This song allowed the singer to launch his career and achieved great success in France.

The song was recorded at the Intercession studio. The guitars are played by Carl Katz, and the keyboards by Luc Gilbert.

The cover for the CD maxi used the same photograph as that of the album Hélène : Roch Voisine's face with a black background. The song is mainly in French-language, but contains a line in English as follows: "Hélène things you do / Make me crazy about you".

The music video features the singer and an air hostess who are in love, but who are forced to separate because of professional reasons. She may be French because when, in the video, she writes her name on a mirror with her lipstick, she does end it with an 'e' ('Helene'), as on the single cover. The model who plays the role of Hélène is Ariane Cordeau.

Helen Jairag Richardson (born 21 November 1938), popularly known as only Helen is a Burma-born Indian film actress and dancer, working in Hindi films. She has appeared in over 700 films, and is often cited as the most popular nautch dancer of her time. She was the inspiration for four films and a book. She is the second wife of Salim Khan.

Early life and background

Helen Jairag Richardson was born on 21 November 1938 in Yangon, Burma to an Anglo-Indian father and Burmese mother. She has a brother Roger and a sister Jennifer. Their father died during the Second World War. The family trekked to Mumbai in 1943 in order to escape from the Japanese occupation of Burma. Helen told Filmfare during an interview in 1964, "we trekked alternately through wilderness and hundreds of villages, surviving on the generosity of people, for we were penniless, with no food and few clothes. Occasionally, we met British soldiers who provided us with transport, found us refuge and treated our blistered feet and bruised bodies and fed us. By the time we reached Dibrugarh in Assam, our group had been reduced to half. Some had fallen ill and been left behind, some had died of starvation and disease. My mother miscarried along the way. The survivors were admitted to the Dibrugarh hospital for treatment. Mother and I had been virtually reduced to skeletons and my brother's condition was critical. We spent two months in hospital. When we recovered, we moved to Calcutta". She quit her schooling to support her family because her mother's salary as a nurse was not enough to feed a family of four. In a documentary called Queen of the Nautch girls, Helen said she was 19 years old in 1957 when she got her first big break in Howrah Bridge.
