"Bye Bye Blues" is a popular and jazz standard written by Fred Hamm, Dave Bennett, Bert Lown, and Chauncey Gray and published in 1930.
The year it was introduced it was sung by The Vikings on the NBC radio series, The Vikings. It has been recorded by many artists, but the best-known recording is one made in 1952 by Les Paul and Mary Ford. This recording was released by Capitol Records as catalog number 2316. It first reached the Billboard magazine Best Seller chart on December 27, 1952 and lasted 5 weeks on the chart, peaking at #11.
"Bye Bye Blues" may refer to:
Rebecca Jenkins (born 1959 or 1960) is a Canadian actress and singer.
She had starring roles in the 1990s CBC series Black Harbour, and the films Bye Bye Blues, Marion Bridge, Wilby Wonderful, Whole New Thing, South of Wawa and Supervolcano. She also had a supporting role in the 1992 film Bob Roberts, as Dolores Perrigrew. In NBC's miniseries 10.5 she portrayed California governor Carla Williams.
Jenkins appeared in the January 17, 2006, episode of the WB series Supernatural, where she played the loving wife to a faith healer. Her next project was a television movie entitled Past Sins directed by David Winning, in which she co-starred with Lauralee Bell. Past Sins aired on Lifetime in November, 2006.
As a singer, Jenkins has primarily been a backing vocalist for Jane Siberry and Parachute Club. She has also recorded tracks for a number of Canadian benefit and compilation albums, and participated in the Count Your Blessings concert with Siberry, Holly Cole, Mary Margaret O'Hara and Victoria Williams. As well, Jenkins is featured prominently on the Bye Bye Blues soundtrack album; her character in the film is a woman who takes up jazz singing to support her family while her husband is away during World War II. She also performed the title track "Bye Bye Blues" in Calgary at the September 1, 2005, opening the night of the celebration of Alberta's centennial.
Bert Lown (June 6, 1903-November 2 (or 20), 1962) was a violinist and orchestra leader.
He was born in White Plains, New York. He began as a sideman playing the violin in Fred Hamm's band, and in the 1920s and 1930s he led a series of jazz-oriented dance bands (the most famous being the Biltmore Hotel Orchestra), making a large number of recordings in that period for Victor Records. In 1925 (or 1930), (with Hamm, Dave Bennett, and Chauncey Gray) he composed the well-known standard "Bye Bye Blues." He also wrote some other songs, including "You're The One I Care For" and "Tired." By the mid-1930s he quit leading the orchestras, becoming a booking agent and manager; eventually he left the music industry and moved on to executive positions in the television industry. He died of a heart attack in 1962 in Portland, Oregon.
Brenda Mae Tarpley (born December 11, 1944), known as Brenda Lee, is an American performer who sang rockabilly, pop and country music, and had 37 US chart hits during the 1960s, a number surpassed only by Elvis Presley, The Beatles, Ray Charles and Connie Francis. She is best known for her 1960 hit "I'm Sorry", and 1958's "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree", a US holiday standard for more than 50 years.
At 4 ft 9 inches tall, she received the nickname Little Miss Dynamite in 1957 after recording the song "Dynamite"; and was one of the earliest pop stars to have a major contemporary international following.
Lee's popularity faded in the late 1960s as her voice matured, but she continued a successful recording career by returning to her roots as a country singer with a string of hits through the 1970s and 1980s. She is a member of the Rock and Roll, Country Music, Rockabilly and Hit Parade Halls of Fame. Lee currently lives in Nashville, Tennessee.
Lee was born Brenda Mae Tarpley in the charity ward of Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. She weighed 4 pounds 11 ounces at birth. She attended grade schools wherever her father found work, primarily in the corridor between Atlanta and Augusta. Her family was poor, living hand-to-mouth; she shared a bed with her two siblings in a series of three-room houses without running water. Life centered on her parents finding work, their extended family, and the Baptist Church, where she sang solos every Sunday.
I'm a bit like a soldier
In the way I wear no uniform
And choose not to fight
And fight all night
For some other cause
I'm a bit like the grave digger
Who wields no shovel
And digs no hole
But leaves the bodies to rot
In the places that they stand
For some other cause
I'm a bit like the pack mule
Carrying no load
Into the canyons of your jive
For some other cause
I'm a bit like the freelance fence painter
Then eyes your backside as you leave
For some other cause
I'm a bit like the peephole
That falls in love with all the eyes
That look through
Watching major things unfold
From minor flaws
For some other cause
do you remember when we met i was so intrigued you were so intrigued we spent our time telling our sides of our excitement of insecurities moving far away and from that moment on we were inseperable a vivid image of ecstasy it's been a long time and things i see well they remind me well they remind me they take me to that age moving far away moving far away in time but everyday that goes by your further from my mind try to rememebr lies i know i trasure things too much instead of pushing them aside still i tell lies try to turn around and face it
Song, music that seemed to blur
All that my heart would say
Song, you didn't change our tune
You didn't end too soon
Love is forever, still you play on in my heart
Each note really tears me apart
How could a love so right go wrong?
How can I learn to let go?
Your words keep on haunting me so
Love is forever, love is forever
Song, tell her and make her see
She is my life to me
And all that is left of a beautiful love
Is a beautiful love song
Still you play on in my heart
Each note really tears me apart
How could a love so right go wrong?
How can I learn to let go?
Your words keep on haunting me so
Love is forever, love is forever
Song, tell her and make her see
She is my life to me
And all that is left of a beautiful love
When I am dead, my dearest,
Sing no sad songs for me;
Plant thou no roses at my head,
Nor shady cypress tree:
Be the green grass above me
With showers and dewdrops wet;
And if thou wilt, remember,
And if thou wilt, forget.
I shall not see the shadows,
I shall not feel the rain;
I shall not hear the nightingale
Sing on, as if in pain;
And dreaming through the twilight
That doth not rise nor set,
Haply I may remember,
(Verlaine)
I think of you, I think of you.
I had this friend who told me that
Coincidence cannot articulate the best
Events. She said she'd rather think of
Everything as accident, after all, it's
All heaven-sent. She said I don't think
Good but i know how to wait as if when
You wait it is not hours but some forgotten
Sense of time. It's very kind of all those
Powers to feature love without design.
Letters arrive, spelling out the wish so
Clear, making a language of desire and fear.
You said it's not that way... God is not the
Name of God... you'll send a drawing of the heart
I don't draw well but i know how to wait as if...
I think of you listening to your father's voice...
Those endless speeches on 'The Gift of Choice'.
Love's not a story I could ever read or write...
I guess you'd say I'm not so bright. Show me
How you wait... as if...
I am so fond of you, so fond of you.
