Babil province in Iraq is home to the ancient city of Babylon and it is also host to other famous, popular and ancient Iraqi cities like Sippar, Borsippa, Kish, Seleucia, Al-Hillah or Hilla, Kifil, Al-Hashmiya, Al-Qasim, Mahmudiyah, Al-Hamzah, Al-Madhatiyah, Iskandariya, Latifiya, Salman-Pak, Yusufiyah, Musayyib, Al-Mahawil and of course the gate of Ishtar at the ancient ruins of Babylon (Babil, after which the region is named) and few other PROUD Iraqi villages and cities ... Magnificent places you won't believe your eyes and you wouldn't think 10,000+ ancient and wonderful places still exist in the cradle of civilization once known as Mesopotamia and best known today as Iraq
This is a 15-minute video taken by a contractor sitting behind me as I led a PSD Team across Iraq in 2005. Most of the voice instructions you hear were of me communicating verbally with my crew and people outside the vehicle, followed up with instructions on the radio to the rest of the team. This was thankfully a pretty boring, uneventful mission.

Babylon Province (Arabic: بابل Bābil) (or Babil Governorate) is a province in central Iraq. It has an area of 5,603 square kilometres (2,163 sq mi), with an estimated population of 1,385,783 people in 2003. The provincial capital is the city of Hillah, which lies opposite the ancient city of Babylon (بابل), on the Euphrates river.
The ancient city of Babylon in present-day Babylon Province was the capital of ancient Babylonia, situated on the Euphrates river south of Baghdad, Iraq.
The city was occupied from the 3rd millennium BC but became important early in the 2nd millennium under the kings of the First Dynasty of Babylon. The sixth king of this dynasty was Hammurabi (1792-1750 BC) who made Babylon the capital of a vast empire and is best remembered for his code of laws.
The city achieved pre-eminence when Nebuchadnezzar II (605-562 BC) extended the Babylonian Empire over most of Western Asia.

At that time, Babylon flourished and became the cultural and economical capital of the entire Fertile Crescent. It also became the seat of the renown Code of Hammurabi, the first code of law in Human History.
It was the "holy city" of Babylonia approximately 2300 BC, and the seat of the Neo-Babylonian Empire from 612 BC. The Hanging Gardens of Babylon were one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.
It has been estimated that Babylon was the largest city in the world from ca. 1770 to 1670 BC, and again between ca. 612 and 320 BC. It was perhaps the first city to reach a population above 200,000.
It is recorded that Babylon's legal system developed a form of negligence law, and Babylon was probably the first culture to develop negligence law. In the common law world, the law of negligence was not fully rediscovered until the 20th century.

Some even show an exaggeratingly tall Tower of Babel.

A suicide bomber detonated his explosive belt at a soccer game in a town south of Baghdad on Friday, killing at least 31 people, including the town’s mayor, provincial police officials said.
Islamic State militants claimed responsibility for the attack, in the town of Iskandariya in Babil Province, through the group’s affiliated news agency, Al Amaq. The Islamic State group controls large areas of territory in northern and western Iraq, as well as parts of Syria.
The attack, which also wounded at least 71 people, struck a large crowd gathered for a game between local teams sponsored by Asaib Ahl al-Haq, a powerful Shiite militia that has ties to Iran and has been at the forefront of fighting against the Islamic State, also known as ISIS or ISIL.
The game had just ended and a trophy was being presented to the winning team when the bomber detonated the explosives while in the crowd, the police said.
Sheik Jawad, the head of the Asaib Ahl al-Haq office in Babil Province, said that at least five top members of the militia had been wounded. “The attack was carried out to destabilize the confidence between the people and Asaib, and to take revenge against us after our victories,” he said.
Raed al-Zaidi, a 36-year-old journalist, said his cousin was among those killed in the bombing. “My cousin was a soccer player, and he wanted to win the final match but his dream was uncompleted,” Mr. Zaidi said.
The Islamic State also claimed responsibility this month for a suicide bombing farther south in Hilla that killed at least 33 people and wounded 115. In a Twitter post at the time, the extremist group said, “The battle has just started and the coming will be worst.”
On Thursday, the Iraqi military said it had recaptured several villages in the northern province of Nineveh, backed by American airstrikes, as it gears up for a campaign to retake Mosul from ISIS militants.

A man wearing a suicide belt walked into an Iraqi soccer stadium Friday and blew himself up -- killing at least 25 people and wounding 90 more, security officials said.
A crowd had gathered for a ceremony to mark a championship for a popular local soccer team when the bomb exploded, the head of the Babil province security committee, Baydhan al Hamdani, told CNN.
A video posted on YouTube showed soccer players approaching a table holding trophies before an explosion occurred. CNN could not independently authenticate the video.
The attacker struck at al-Shuhadaa stadium in the Babil province city of Iskandariya, roughly 30 miles (50 kilometers) south of Baghdad.
ISIS claimed responsibility, according to a statement posted online by supporters.The special representative of the U.N. Secretary-General for Iraq, Jan Kubis, condemned the bombing by "Daesh," another term for ISIS.
"The evildoers are aiming their wrath at the innocent and vulnerable civilians," he said. "Today, Daesh committed yet another atrocity, targeting families who were enjoying their weekend attending a football game in their hometown. This abhorrent act deserves the strongest condemnation."
Kubis urged Iraqis to unite to thwart the terrorists' goals of inciting sectarian tensions in the country.The U.S. State Department also spoke out.
"The United States condemns today's suicide bombing claimed by Daesh ... which killed and wounded dozens of Iraqis who had gathered to support a local football game," said a statement from Elizabeth Trudeau, director of the department's office of press relations.
Though the attacks in Europe have gained the attention of the West, the bulk of ISIS' brutal actions -- not to mention the vast majority of its active members -- are in the Middle East.

STORYLINE:
A suicide car bomber struck a checkpoint near the governor's offices in the predominantly Shiite southern city of Hillah on Monday, killing at least eight people and wounding 31, police said.
Three of the eight killed in the 6:30 a.m (0230GMT) explosion were policemen, as were at least four of the wounded, said a spokesman for the provincial police department.
The attacker drove his car into a checkpoint that leads to the headquarters of the Babil provincial government.
The blast damaged the concrete walls surrounding the main building and shattered glass, but relatively few people were in the area because of the early hour, limiting the casualties, the police spokesman said.
One police officer said he saw a red sedan speeding toward the headquarters, surprising police at the checkpoint and on the building's roof.
It was the second such attack in Hillah in three days.
A parked car packed with explosives blew up on Saturday in the centre of the city, 95 kilometres (60 miles) south of Baghdad, killing two people.
Hillah, the capital of Babil, has been the target of some of the deadliest car bomb attacks by suspected Sunni Muslim extremists in the four years of insurgency and sectarian killings in Iraq.

Elsewhere, at least nine soldiers were killed at 30 were injured in Diyala province to the north east of Baghdad, according to medical sources. ISIL members allegedly attacked a military based to the north of Baquba. Several sectors of the Diyala province have been captured by the Islamist militia group.
Adding to the tensions, Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki accused the Kurdish controlled Irbil region of being a haven for jihadists.
''Frankly speaking, we won't remain silent on this, we will not remain silent that Irbil is an operational base of ISIL, Ba'ath party, al-Qaida and terrorists," he announced at his weekly televised address.

The town flourished and attained independence with the rise of the First Amorite Babylonian Dynasty in 1894 BC. Claiming to be the successor of the ancient Eridu, Babylon eclipsed Nippur as the "holy city" of Mesopotamia around the time an Amorite king named Hammurabi first created the short lived Babylonian Empire, this quickly dissolved upon his death and Babylon spent long periods under Assyrian, Kassite and Elamite domination. Babylon again became the seat of the Neo-Babylonian Empire from 612 to 539 BC which was founded by Chaldeans and whose last king was an Assyrian. The Hanging Gardens of Babylon were one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. After the fall of Babylon it came under the rules of the Achaemenid, Seleucid, Parthian, Roman and Sassanid empires. It was dissolved as a province after the Arab Islamic conquest of the 7th century AD.

The Flood Tablets
If we take a visit to the British Museum we can go back 1000's of years in time and see with our own eyes amazing pieces of evidence of both archaeological and biblical significance. For instance you can take a look at a very old piece of clay, called the eleventh tablet of the Gilgamesh which was made 1000's of years ago by the Mesopotamians who told their versions of the story of Noah's ark and the flood hundreds of years before the first book of the Old Testament was even written.
How did the Mesopotamians know about the biblical story of Noah in the book of Genesis, if it wasn't written? There can be only one way. IT HAPPENED!!

Seven Wonders of the Ancient World
Let’s now look at one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. The Bible tells us many stories of a King called Nebuchadnezzar who is most famous for the legendary city he built called the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, which was constructed for his homesick wife to remind her of her homeland, in Persia.

These famous gardens are now documented in our history books today as one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World and the only one of the Wonders that may have been purely legendary.
As usual, scholars doubted whether Babylon ever existed until archaeologists stood in awe as they discovered the remains of the ancient city walls of Kasr – also called Palace or Castle, a temple of Marduk which also contained shrines to Ea and Nabu.
We can still see many parts of the ancient city-state of Babylon today near present-day Al Hillah, Babil province, in Iraq.

The Flood Tablets
If we take a visit to the British Museum we can go back 1000's of years in time and see with our own eyes amazing pieces of evidence of both archaeological and biblical significance. Seven Wonders of the Ancient World
Let’s now look at one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. The Bible tells us many stories of a King called Nebuchadnezzar who is most famous for the legendary city he built called the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, which was constructed for his homesick wife to remind her of her homeland, in Persia.
The Hanging Gardens of Babylon
These famous gardens are now documented in our history books today as one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World and the only one of the Wonders that may have been purely legendary.
As usual, scholars doubted whether Babylon ever existed until archaeologists stood in awe as they discovered the remains of the ancient city walls of Kasr – also called Palace or Castle, a temple of Marduk which also contained shrines to Ea and Nabu.
We can still see many parts of the ancient city-state of Babylon today near present-day Al Hillah, Babil province, in Iraq.

The group was composed of and supported by a variety of insurgent groups, including its predecessor organisation, the Mujahideen Shura Council, Al-Qaeda in Iraq (AQI), Jaysh al-Fatiheen, Jund al-Sahaba, Katbiyan Ansar Al-Tawhid wal Sunnah, Jeish al-Taiifa al-Mansoura etc., and other clans whose population profess Sunni Islam. Its aim was to establish a caliphate in the Sunni majority regions of Iraq, later expanding this to include Syria.[33] In February 2014, after an eight-month power struggle, al-Qaeda cut all ties with ISIS.
At the height of the Iraq War, its forerunners enjoyed a significant presence in the Iraqi provinces of Al Anbar, Ninawa, Kirkuk, most of Salah ad Din, parts of Babil, Diyala and Baghdad, and claimed Baqubah for a capital city. In the ongoing Syrian Civil War, the group has a large presence in the Syrian governorates of Ar-Raqqa, Idlib and Aleppo.
In addition to attacks on government and military targets, the group has claimed responsibility for attacks that have killed thousands of Iraqi civilians.[41] Despite significant setbacks for the group during the latter stages of the coalition forces' presence in Iraq, by late 2012 the group was thought to have renewed its strength and more than doubled the number of its members to about 2,500.[42]
A letter and then an audio recording by Ayman al-Zawahiri, the leader of al-Qaeda, were leaked to Al Jazeera in 2013, disbanding the Syrian faction of ISIS.[43] However, the group's leader, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, made it clear that he contested this ruling on the basis of Islamic jurisprudence,[44] and the group has since continued to operate in Syria. Starting in April 2013, the group made rapid military gains in controlling large parts of Northern Syria, where the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights described them as "the strongest group".
In early June 2014, following its large-scale offensives in Iraq, ISIS is reported to have seized control of most of Mosul, the second most populous city in Iraq, a large part of the surrounding Nineveh province, and the city of Fallujah. ISIS has also taken control of Tikrit, the administrative center of the Salah ad Din Governorate, with the ultimate goal of capturing Baghdad, the Iraqi capital. ISIS was believed to have only 2,000--3,000 fighters up until the Mosul campaign, but during that campaign it became evident that this number was a gross underestimate.

He inscribed his name on many of the bricks in imitation of Nebuchadnezzar. One frequent inscription reads: "This was built by Saddam Hussein, son of Nebuchadnezzar, to glorify Iraq". This recalls the ziggurat at Ur, where each individual brick was stamped with "Ur-Nammu, king of Ur, who built the temple of Nanna". These bricks became sought after as collectors' items after the downfall of Hussein, and the ruins are no longer being restored to their original state. He also installed a huge portrait of himself and Nebuchadnezzar at the entrance to the ruins, and shored up Processional Way, a large boulevard of ancient stones, and the Lion of Babylon, a black rock sculpture about 2,600 years old.
When the Gulf War ended, Saddam wanted to build a modern palace, also over some old ruins; it was made in the pyramidal style of a Sumerian ziggurat. He named it Saddam Hill. In 2003, he was ready to begin the construction of a cable car line over Babylon when the invasion began and halted the project.
An article published in April 2006 states that UN officials and Iraqi leaders have plans for restoring Babylon, making it into a cultural center.
As of May 2009, the provincial government of Babil has reopened the site to tourism.

Born in Lugay-Lugay, Cotabato City on December 8, 1950 by Ebrahim Damiog (father) and Hadja Fatimah Midtimbang (mother) and was the second child among the six brothers. He was a brave, strong and respectful child.
Education:
He acquired his elementary education at Lugay-Lugay Elementary School- 1958-1964. And he studied his high school education at Rasheedah High School-1965-1968. He then obtained his Bachelor of Criminology at Harvardian College, Cotabato City and graduated in S.Y. 1972-1973. During his studies in college, he joined ROTC and was selected at Battalion Commander.
His father died in November, 1965 when he was at the age of fifteen. Every time after classes in high school and college, he has to go to farm in order for his widow mother and little sibling to have a plate for food. He was a hardworking man who grew -most of his life- in a low income family.
He studied his Masteral Education, one-year at Camp Abubakar, Bumbaran (September, 1999-2000) and one-year at Mahad School, Cotabato City (2000-2001) and got his diploma of Masters of Public Administration.
Life Long:
December 8, 1950- July 13, 2014 [The Late Chairman Salamat Hashim was martyred on July 13, 2003, that is 11 years from this date].
Joined the Struggle:
• February, 1973- He joined the MNLF. He became the Second In Command (2IC) under Commander Tony Mardizzah.
• 1973- He was appointed as the Company Commander of the First Organized Alpha Company.

• 1987-1990- He was requested by the Late Chairman Salamat Hashim (Rahimahullah) to undergo Military Regular Courses in Afghanistan-Pakistan. He was an ardent learner. During his stay abroad, it was his hobby to go to the Military Generals in Pakistan to seek additional knowledge on Military issues.
• January 23, 1991- He got married with Meriam Muhammad Abas (20 y/o, Born on December 19, 1971) at the age of 40.

The Syrian conflict is now in its third year. Atrocities carried out by foreign backed militants have claimed tens of thousands of lives including those of children and women. Al-Qaida has now officially announced its presence in the war. The West has time and again stated its support of the armed insurgents and the Al-Nusrat front’s crimes are becoming ever more gruesome.
Meanwhile Al-Qusayr countryside – especially regions located on the western bank of the Orontes River - plays a significant role in the transfer of arms and militants into the country. The area has acted as a major transit point for an influx of weapons and fires in the past two years.
With exclusive footage from the front-lines of the Syrian Arab Army, the movie tells the story of how this area was freed village by village to create a buffer zone between Lebanon and the region to cut the supply routes of the armed groups.
