UNDP has been on the ground in Tajikistan since 1994. Nowadays, Tajikistan is a peaceful and stable country, with a rapidly developing economy. However, it is still simultaneously facing challenges of transition, a post-conflict state and of “ordinary” poverty reduction. UNDP’s programme in the country consequently represents a broad spectrum of activities, within all five practice areas.

Combating and eliminating all forms of violence against women
27 November 2015 in Dushanbe the national round table “Strengthening the national measures to eradicate all forms of violence and discrimination against women and girls" was conducted. The round table was organized by UN Joint Advocacy Project on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS, UNDP, UNFPA and UNICEF) in Tajikistan (UN JAP), through the initiative of CSO “Bovari +” and Eurasian Harm Reduction Network (EHRN).

Launch of Effort to Reduce the Impact of Climate Hazards
The unusually warm weather and flooding earlier in 2015 highlight the threat that climate-relate disasters pose to Tajikistan. Recognizing this threat, the Committee for Environmental Protection (CoEP), Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, with the support of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), held a workshop on the integration of climate change adaptation into policies and activities to reduce disaster risk in Tajikistan on 12 November 2015.

Meeting of the National Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction in Tajikistan
A regular meeting of the National Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction was held on 4 December 2015, with participation of 19 representatives of ministries and 12 international agencies and donors. The First Deputy Chairman of the National Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction, Mr. Khayriddin Abdurahimov, Chairman of the Committee of Emergency Situations and Civil Defense under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan chaired the meeting. During the meeting participants mainly discussed: designation of the National focal point for implementing the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction for 2015-2030; “Guidelines for conducting exercises at the community level” proposed by Red Crescent Society of Tajikistan; introduction of the “National Recovery Guide”; review and approval of the National Platform Action Plan for 2016.

BOMNAF Conference 24-25 November 2015
UNDP’s EU Border Management in Northern Afghanistan (BOMNAF) planned project activities require that coordination meetings and events involving Afghanistan, Tajikistan and other Central Asian border officials are organized, implemented and hosted by the Project. Therefore, UNDP’s EU-BOMNAF Project hosted a conference and workshop in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, during 24-25 November 2015 to discuss Regional Cooperation, Capacity Building, and Trade, Commerce & Investment.

UNDP IICPSD Brings Private and Public Sectors Together to Boost Investment and Trade in Agro-Food Industries
Government, business and civil society leaders will promote new business models and investment opportunities in a workshop on October 15th in Dushanbe, Tajikistan. Dushanbe, October 13, 2015 - UNDP Istanbul International Center for Private Sector in Development (IICPSD) will convene the “Afghanistan-Kyrgyzstan-Tajikistan (AKT) Tripartite Regional Agro-Food Industry Consortium Workshop” in Dushanbe, Tajikistan on October 15th, 2015 to launch the AKT Consortium. The AKT Consortium brings leaders from the public and private sectors, and from civil society, to develop inclusive business models and promote investments for the agro-food value chains in AKT countries.

First Regional Policy Dialogue Meeting Discusses State-Funded Free Legal Aid

Sarhadchi Medical Center
8 September 2015, Chubek Jamoat, Hamadoni District, Taikistan The Sarhadchi Medical Center in Hayoti Nav village is back in full operation thanks to UNDP Tajikistan’s Flood Recovery to Resilience (R2R) project. Mud flows and heavy rain in 2014 together with a lack of maintenance led to serious damage of the Center. Before the rehabilitation work, the Center had only one usable room, the dentist office, which itself had only a temporary roof.

Supporting Livelihoods in Sarichashma Jamoat of Shurobod District
On 2 October, 2015 UNDP Disaster Risk Management Programme completed the distribution of 101 dairy cows and 45,000 kg of mixed cattle feed to 101 families which were affected by floods and mudflows, occurred in April 2014 in Sarichashma Jamoat of Shurobod district. . Provided assistance will support the livelihood recovery of disaster-affected households.

UNDP improves the access of dekhkan farms to irrigation water in Qumsangir district
1 December 2015, - the inauguration ceremony of rehabilitated irrigation pumping station in Zamini Nav village within the framework of UNDP “Project for Livelihood Improvement in Tajik-Afghan Cross-border Areas (LITACA)” was held in Qumsangir district of Khatlon Region. The ceremony was attended by Mr. Gulam M. Isaczai, UNDP Country Director a.i. in Tajikistan, Mr. Aminzoda Foteh, Chairman of Qumsangir district, and the representatives of local community.

Country Programme Action Plan between the Government of Tajikistan and the United Nations Development Programme, 2010 ‐ 2015
UNDP Tajikistan’s Country Programme Action Plan (2010 – 2015) involved the participation of the Government of Tajikistan and directly addresses the priorities of the Government of Tajikistan’s National Development Strategy (NDS) and the Poverty Reduction Strategy (PRS), as well as the Joint Country Programme Strategy (JCPS), developed in collaboration with CIDA and ADB).
