Various shots of military personnel working on relief at Medan airport STORYLINE: Some schools in Banda Aceh, Indonesia, reopened on Monday for the first time since the tsunami. UNICEF is working together with the local authorities to try to get as many schools reopened as quickly as possible. But many are still closed, having either been destroyed in the disaster or because they are being used as centres to house refugees. Teachers at this school are keen to get classes up and running. They say it'll help instil a sense of normality in the children, to begin the long recovery from the disaster. On Monday 140 children were welcomed at the school. Nearly half came from other schools from nearby refugee camps. Officials at the school said it was too early to know how many were victims of the tsunami. Among those hardest hit by the December the 26th tsunami were Aceh's ethnic Chinese population. Many have fled the province for city of Medan in Sumatra proper. One refugee camp, around 15 kilometres from the centre of Medan city, has received more than 6000 refugees from Aceh. Hundreds of refugees are arriving every day and camp officials are now trying to relocate them in other areas in Medan city. The camp is managed by an Indonesian-Chinese foundation. Originally designed as a health centre for refugees it now also houses an information centre relating to the Aceh disaster.
