Project History & More Info: I went to a local sporting goods store recently to check prices of commercially available rubber band guns, and was shocked at the price tag of $16 for one of their cheapest models. In addition, they wanted another $2 for a bag of specialized rubber bands for the gun. With this method, not only can you form an instant rubber band shooter for free, but chances are you already have two of them on hand. This is a simple elastic shooting trick you've probably known since elementary school. I think that's where I first learned it myself, but in playing around with my kids recently, I wondered if the 2 extra fingers could be loaded up with rubber bands as well, and what kind of effect that would have? Amazingly, this simple modification transforms the basic rubber band shooter into a semi-automatic version that will fire off 3 rounds on command. I also found that releasing all the elastics at the same time can simulate a shotgun blast. So now our simple rubber band guns have 3 different modes you can play with :)

A basic look at the three most common types of handguns: single action, double action, and semi-automatic. The firearms are a 2nd Generation Colt SAA in .45 Colt, a beautiful .44 magnum 629 in 3" barrel, and a Colt Series '80 Model 1991 in 45 ACP. This is mostly for the novice shooter, the beginner. Based on questions I get, I know I assume more knowledge than some of our newest shooters possess yet. I'll try to do more videos of this nature and even create a PLAYLIST for BASICS. I think we do a lot to help out new shooters, but I realize that I assume a certain level of knowledge in most of my videos and likely talk over some people's heads. Of course, when one is 6'8", he's always talking over people's heads. :-) By the way, I think people totally new to guns get a pretty good idea about what these three main action types are about. If you want to get more complex, add your own approach, or expand upon it, please help yourself to doing a video on it yourself.

We have friends who show how decent people conduct themselves and how considerate and appealing their personalities are. We also allow people to make fools of themselves. Also there is a 400 foot wide, 14 foot high backstop with no neighbors on the other side. Even still, some of the guys watch an attractive woman in a bikini shooting a gun that they covet and they lose it and start with the insanity. Some will fly in the face of logic and reason to try to show that they are to only ones who should be shooting the gun. A 2D Flash animation that I made in order to explain how firearms work to those who have no prior knowledge about them. The larger internal moving parts (barrel, recoil spring, firing pin) as well as the components of a cartridge (bullet, powder, primer) are shown in a semi-transparent cutaway view. I also included a voice-over to explain what is happening when the pistol is operated. The discharge of a cartridge as it is shown in the video applies to rifles and other firearms as well. Feel free to show this video to newbies if you want to explain to them how a semi-automatic gun functions in a clear graphic way. You may also use this animated video in a presentation if you like, but whenever possible please use the online link rather than a downloaded version.
