Plot: The story revolves around two unemployed youths who are struggling to make ends meet. At one situation they blame the God for all their sufferings. The God appears and decide to stay with them. Realizing the power of God resides in a "Galaxy Box" the youths steal it. By stealing it they become God and God ends up becoming a normal man. While the youths misuse the power the God as a man works hard and progresses up the status ladder. Later he makes them understand that everyone's destiny is in their own hands. As God being the main protagonist there are many sequences that reflects the current world affairs.

Plot: Kishan lives a poor lifestyle in Sitapur along with his sister, Gomti, and brother, Arjun. He is a farmer as well as operates a ferry service, while Gomti looks the household, and Arjun is away in the city for educational purposes. Abdul, a close friend of Kishan, helps him farming, and is treated like a family member. Kishan's marriage is arranged with Kiran, who loves him with all her heart and will do anything for him. Kishan is overjoyed when Arjun returns, but this joy turns sour when Arjun wants his brother to sell the land and re-locate to the city. Before Kishan could recover from this incident, he is told that Gomti and Adbul have eloped. A disbelieving and enraged Kishan decides to confront everyone who subscribes to this rumor leading to series of incidents which land him in the bad books of Police Inspector Tiwari, who arrests him for stealing from the Mandir.

Plot: The film is set in the India of the tumultuous 1930's when nationalists fighting for the country's independence rose up as one, urging the British to quit. At this time, a young Indian, Kisna befriends and then shields a British girl Katherine, from an enraged mob of nationalists including Kisna's own uncle and brother. Katherine is the young daughter of a ruthless British collector. Kisna takes it upon himself to escort Katherine to the safety of the British High Commission in New Delhi, who will arrange for her to board a ship home. A tender attraction develops between Kisna and Katherine during the journey, a love story that is torn between 'Karma' (the noble deed) and 'Dharma' (the duty). Laxmi, the Indian girl Kisna is engaged to, forms the third point in an emotional triangle involving the Indo-British romantic pair.

Plot: Wealthy, powerful, and influential Thakur Digvijay Singh and beautiful Naina are bethrothed and are to be married soon. But Naina has fallen in love with the son, Karan, of Thakur's employee, Balwant. When Thakur finds out about this, he instructs his men to bring in Naina alive, and Karan dead. Karan and Naina run from this community all the way to Bombay. The Thakur announces a hefty reward, and soon bounty hunters are all over Bombay looking for the hapless couple. When Balwant hears about this, he too goes to Bombay, and does locate Karan and Naina. Karan is relieved to see his dad, but his relief soon turns to disbelief, as Balwant instructs him to let go of Naina, as he himself has come as an agent of the Thakur, not as his father.

Plot: After Laxmi has had three still-births, her husband, Satyaprakash and his mother are afraid she will not be able to give any more births, and therefore there will be no one to carry the name of the family forward. So they propose that Satyaprakash gets married for a second time, to which Laxmi consents to, and as such he gets married to Rukmani. After this marriage Laxmi gets pregnant and gives birth to a son, Rajkumar, and shortly thereafter Rukmani too gives birth to a son, Lakhan. Rajkumar is abducted, and disappears from their lives. Thereafter, Satyaprakash is arrested for the murder of a contractor, and sentenced to prison. Rukmani and her brother, Buddiram, take over running the household, and inflict abuse on Laxmi. Years later, a young man appears claiming to be the missing son of Laxmi and Satyaprakash, and he attempts to bring some sense and honor for poor Laxmi. But this does not last for long, when Satyaprakash is released from prison, he recognizes the young man, as his fellow prison inmate, and much to the shock and dismay of Laxmi, asks him to leave the house, little knowing that he has now thrown open the door for Buddhiram to kill him and Laxmi.

Plot: Ramlal and his wife, Parvati, had always longed for a child of their own. With blessings of Maa Santoshi, Parvati gives birth to a baby boy, and calls him Makhan. Shortly thereafter, Ramlal passes away, leaving Parvati to bring up Makhan on her own. Parvati has to seek employment, and must leave Makhan on his own, and as a result Makhan gets involved in an accident and loses his vision. Subsequently, Parvati and Makhan get separated. Years later, Makhan now calls himself Mohan and is a popular radio singer, and is still blind; while Parvati lives with a brother-like friend, Ashok Gupta, who also has a young daughter, Geeta, who is a fan of Mohan. Geeta wants to marry Mohan, and brings him over to introduce him to her dad, and Parvati, but both reject him. Disillusioned, Mohan returns home, while Ashok and Parvati arrange the marriage of Geeta with another young man. But complications arise, when Geeta claims she has lost her sight, and is herself rejected by the young man and his family. The question remains, will Ashok accede to the marriage of Mohan and Geeta? How will Parvati find out that Mohan is really her son?

Plot: Vishwam (Naseeruddin Shah) is the youngest son of the powerful, and influential village Zamindar (Amrish Puri). The Zamindar will not hesitate to do anything for the welfare and protection of his family, which also includes bending the law to his own advantage. Vishwam is married to Rukmani (Smita Patil), and unlike his brothers, does not indulge in alcohol or women, nor does he have any bad habits. Then the village gets a new schoolmaster (Girish Karnad), who has a wife, Sushilla (Shabana Azmi). When Vishwam sees for the first time, he is unable to take his off of her, and unable to get her out of his mind. Sushilla does not reciprocate his attentions. Then one night, while the schoolmaster is returning home, he sees a vehicle pull up outside his house, and two men grab Sushilla and take her forcibly. Several people are present no one dares to raise a hand nor even a voice to stop this abduction. What will the schoolmaster do to get his wife back, knowling fully well that the Police patel (Kulbhushan Kharbanda) is one of the Zamindar's men.

Plot: Due to disagreements in the King's household, his wife and son decide to move away from his kingdom. Balram, wishing to see his sister as Queen of Hastinapur, wants her to marry prince Duryodhan, while Krishna is partial to his cousin Arjun and enacts a plan to see his desires fulfilled.
