La Carretera Austral es una de las obras de ingeniería más complejas realizadas en Chile; no tanto por el desafío ingenieril que ello supone, si no por la compleja geografía que debe recorrer en sus 1.240 Km. de extensión.
Es una ruta de indescriptible belleza escénica que se interna en el corazón profundo de los Andes Patagónicos, serpenteando por entre bosques milenarios, profundos fiordos, ríos, lagos, ventisqueros, acantilados, para finalmente terminar su recorrido en los campos de hielos más extensos -fuera de los casquetes polares- del planeta: los campos de hielos Patagónicos.
Una ruta que recorre uno de los paisajes más bellos de nuestro territorio y tal vez, del mundo.

En este capítulo visitaremos la Ruta Bimodal que comprende el acceso norte a la Carretera Austral, utilizando para nuestro traslado transbordadores y barcazas.
Además entregaremos algunos datos económicos de descanso y pernoctación en el Tramo 1, entre Puerto Montt y Caleta La Arena.

Un recorrido en coche y ferri por la Carretera Austral de Chile y la isla de Chiloe para explorar uno de los paisajes más sorprendentes y de difícil acceso de la Patagonia Chilena. A la Carretera Austral de Chile se la considera la carretera más espectacular de Sudamérica: lagos, ríos turbulentos, los Andes patagónicos y la presencia de campos de hielo y glaciares por todas partes. Un recorrido de más de 1000 km tan abrupto que muchos tramos hay que hacerlos en ferri. Comienza en Puerto Montt y discurre por lugares fantásticos como el parque nacional Pumalin, Chaiten, las termas del amarillo, el río Futaleufú, el parque nacional Queulat, Puerto Cisnes, Puerto Aysen, Cohaique, el lago General Carrera, las catedrales de marmol...etc. De camino a Chiloe el ferri pasa por la isla de Melinka, Puerto Gala y otros destinos hasta llegar a Chiloe donde finalmente terminamos nuestro recorrido.

--- About the Carretera Austral in Patagonie ---
The Road number 7 connects the most remote areas of Chile and is one of the most beautiful roads in South America. It is an alternative road to the Panamericana which is located on the argentinean side of Patagonia.
Amongst Bikers and Cyclists this route is very popular due to the beautiful landscape even though the construction of the road was not done for tourism purpose.
In the 1970s there was a border conflict between Argentina and Chile in this part of Patagonia - the territories around the lago del desierto have not been clearly defined. Therefore Pinochet decided to build a road and populate the south of chile to claim the region and strengthen the position of Chile.
Nowadays the Carretera is a mostly unpaved road and is located in 2 regions of Chile: Region Los Lagos in the northern part of the road and Region Aysen in the south.

--- About the Carretera Austral in Patagonie ---
The Road number 7 connects the most remote areas of Chile and is one of the most beautiful roads in South America. It is an alternative road to the Panamericana which is located on the argentinean side of Patagonia.
Amongst Bikers and Cyclists this route is very popular due to the beautiful landscape even though the construction of the road was not done for tourism purpose.
In the 1970s there was a border conflict between Argentina and Chile in this part of Patagonia - the territories around the lago del desierto have not been clearly defined. Therefore Pinochet decided to build a road and populate the south of chile to claim the region and strengthen the position of Chile.
Nowadays the Carretera is a mostly unpaved road and is located in 2 regions of Chile: Region Los Lagos in the northern part of the road and Region Aysen in the south.
