A melody (from Greek μελῳδία - melōidía, "singing, chanting"), also tune, voice, or line, is a linear succession of musical tones which is perceived as a single entity. In its most literal sense, a melody is a combination of pitch and rhythm, while, more figuratively, the term has occasionally been extended to include successions of other musical elements such as tone color. It may be considered the foreground to the background accompaniment. A line or part need not be a foreground melody.
Melodies often consist of one or more musical phrases or motifs, and are usually repeated throughout a song or piece in various forms. Melodies may also be described by their melodic motion or the pitches or the intervals between pitches (predominantly conjunct or disjunct or with further restrictions), pitch range, tension and release, continuity and coherence, cadence, and shape.
Given the many and varied elements and styles of melody "many extant explanations [of melody] confine us to specific stylistic models, and they are too exclusive." Paul Narveson claimed in 1984 that more than three-quarters of melodic topics had not been explored thoroughly.

Shaheila binti Abdul Majid or commonly known as Sheila Majid (born January 3, 1965 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia) is a popular singer from Malaysia. She is of Mandailing-Javanese descent.
Sheila Majid is the youngest of a family of 8 children.[citation needed] She attended schools at Convent Goodshepherd Kindergarten, Methodist Girls Primary School and Methodist Girls Secondary School, all in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. She was married to Roslan Aziz, the producer of her previous albums, but has since divorced him. Sheila is now married to Hasridz Murshim Hashim Abdullah, better known as Acis, who was a keyboardist with one of the popular rock band in the 80s, Gersang. They were married June 3, 2003. Sheila has two children from her earlier marriage to Roslan, Wan Nur Khaleda, 21 and Megat Abdul Majid, 17 and two from her current marriage, Khadeja Zaireen Murshim, 7 and Khalifa Laila Murshim, 5.
When she was 17, she sang at a friend's party and was spotted by a music producer, who invited her to do a demo. Sheila auditioned for Roslan Aziz and was given a contract in 1982. However, it took another three years before she released her first album in 1985 Dimensi Baru, which subsequently went gold. With Emosi, released a year later, Sheila won the Indonesian BASF Award for Best Female R&B Artist in 1987; never before by a non-Indonesian. Her success in Indonesia was followed by a 1988 nationwide tour.
