Indie

Indie is a shortform of "independence" or "independent"; it may refer to:

Hipster (contemporary subculture)

The hipster subculture is composed of affluent or middle class young who reside primarily in gentrifying neighborhoods. It is broadly associated with indie and alternative music, a varied non-mainstream fashion sensibility (including vintage and thrift store-bought clothes), generally progressive political views, organic and artisanal foods, and alternative lifestyles. The subculture typically consists of white millennials living in urban areas. It has been described as a "mutating, trans-Atlantic melting pot of styles, tastes and behavior".

The term in its current usage first appeared in the 1990s and became particularly prominent in the 2010s, being derived from the term used to describe earlier movements in the 1940s. Members of the subculture typically do not self-identify as hipsters, and the word hipster is often used as a pejorative to describe someone who is pretentious, overly trendy or effete. Some analysts contend that the notion of the contemporary hipster is actually a myth created by marketing.

Indie 103.1

Indie 103.1 is a commercial radio station in Los Angeles, California, broadcasting over the World Wide Web. The format is alternative rock.

History

On December 25, 2003 at 11 PM, Indie 103.1 was first transmitted on the KDLD radio station. The first two songs to play were The Ramones "We Want The Airwaves" and The Clash "This Is Radio Clash" followed by a list of new songs that had never seen commercial airplay before, setting the tone for what would become a musically adventurous and rebellious radio station. The first employees were program director Michael Steele, music director Mark Sovel and TK.

For a month the station ran with no commercials or DJs and featured only the voices of listeners from phones messages left on the request line voice mail. Many of the phone messages were angry listeners yelling "You guys suck!" and "What happened to KDL the party station!"

The artwork for the Indie 103.1 logo was created by Obey Giant street artist Shepard Fairey, who would achieve fame as the designer of the Obama "Progress" and "Hope" posters.

Pixies (EP)

Pixies is a 2002 EP release of the (mostly) previously unissued material from Pixies' original 17-track demo tape (known to Pixies aficionados as "The Purple Tape"), recorded at Fort Apache Studios in March 1987 by Gary Smith. Eight of the tracks from sessions were released in 1987 as the band's debut, Come On Pilgrim and the remaining nine were sourced for this release by SpinART Records in the U.S. and Sonic Unyon records in Canada.

Fairy (Artemis Fowl)

Fairies, in the fantasy series Artemis Fowl by Eoin Colfer, are fictional beings, usually shorter than a human, who possess magic properties. The average height of a fairy is exactly 1 metre, one centimetre. All the fairies have retreated below the Earth to escape the destructiveness of the human race. Their underground civilization is centered on the capital city of Haven. Fairies are vernacularly known as the People, and live a life according to the Book of the People. There are 8 recognized families of fairies- Elves, Dwarves, Pixies, Gnomes, Gremlins, Goblins, Sprites and Demons. However, the centaurs have been mentioned several times, as with trolls, and the centaurs' cousins, the unicorns, were killed off, yet they are not recognized.

The Eight Families

In Artemis Fowl and the Lost Colony, it is said that 10,000 years ago, there were eight families (or species) of fairies. It is possible that Centaurs and Trolls used to live not underground but above ground, and were recruited by the fairies for the war against the Mud People (the term used by fairies to address humans). This would explain the links between many animals these two species have, and would explain why they don't have magic. Centaurs are also cousins of unicorns, so they couldn't be in the fairy family without the unicorns. The fairies, however, are mostly humanoid. Warlocks are also part of the fairy world. They are extremely magical fairies that originate under unknown circumstances.

Timothy "Timmy" Turner is the main character of the series. He was lonely at first but then, he has been given fairy godparents to grant his every wish and there names are Cosmo and Wanda. His wishes often have unpredictable and problematic side effects, and are often reverted upon Timmy's request by the end of the episode. His interests include comic books (particularly those centered around his favorite superhero, the Crimson Chin), video games, cartoons,and sports. Timmy's middle name is Tiberius, as revealed in "Manic Mom Day". Timmy's singing voice was performed by Stacy Ferguson.

Human–animal marriage

Human–animal marriage is not recognized in law by any country, although attempts to marry animals have been recorded.

Historical cases

Cat

In January 2004, a woman known as "The Mad Cat Lady" married both her tabby twin boys Lugosi and Spider via MarryYourPet.com, from whom she then received an (unofficial) certificate of marriage. She and her cats have since been featured in various newspaper articles including The Sun and Metro. She told "I realised no human had ever or could ever make me feel as happy and loved as them."

In May 2010, a German married his cat when he was told by his vet that the animal would soon die.

In June 2013, fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld announced that he wished to marry his cat Choupette. He said in an interview with CNN, "There is no marriage, yet, for human beings and animals… I never thought that I would fall in love like this with a cat."

Cow

In June 2010, 18-year-old Indonesian man, Ngurah Alit, was forced to marry his cow after he was found having sex with them. The man had believed the cow to be a beautiful woman. He then became a widower when the cow was drowned in the sea to symbolically cleanse the village of the act of bestiality committed there.
