In this episode, we hear filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra talking about his recent work and his first Hollywood venture "Broken Horses" which will release on April 10. He vividly talks about this movie which he thinks is completely different from the movies he has produced for Bollywood, and how he's excited about this film which has the ruggedness of a western film. Though he says publicity or fame doesn't scare him, he prefers to shield himself from the publicity his successful projects generate as it keeps him from becoming a victim of his own success. As a Kashmiri, Mr Chopra is hopeful that the new coalition government in the state would work towards helping the Kashmiri pandits return to their land.

Speaker Biography
Vidhu Vinod Chopra is an acclaimed Indian film director, screenwriter and producer. He was born in Kashmir and studied film making at the Film & Television Institute, Pune. His first documentary, An Encounter With Faces, highlighted the plight of India's destitute children. It was nominated for an Oscar in the Documentary Short Subject category in 1978.
Since then, Vinod has directed films like Khamosh, Parinda, 1942 – A Love Story, Mission Kashmir and Eklavya – The Royal Guard. Of these, Parinda and Eklavya – The Royal Guard were nominated as India's official entries to the Oscars in the Best Foreign Film category in 1989 and 2007 respectively.
After the success of Mission Kashmir, Vinod decided to produce films and encourage new directorial talent. The result: 3 idiots, Lage Raho Munna Bhai and Munna Bhai MBBS with Rajkumar Hirani, Parineeta with Pradeep Sarkar and Ferrari Ki Sawaari with Rajesh Mapuskar. Each a critically acclaimed film and a box-office success.
Vinod is making his English language directorial debut with Broken Horses, an epic thriller set in the shadows of the US-Mexico gang wars; a story about bonds of brotherhood, the laws of loyalty and the futility of violence. Vinod's team on Broken Horses includes Oscar®-nominated Tom Stern (The Hunger Games Changeling, and Million Dollar Baby) as the Director of Photography, Toby Corbett (Crossing Over, Bad Lieutenant) as Production Designer, Emmy-nominated Mary Vogt (Men In Black 3, Batman Returns) as Costume Designer and Todd E. Story: A Bollywood unit decides to travel to scenic Pahalgam in Kashmir to complete an yet untitled movie. The stars are Naseerudin Shah, Amol Palekar, Sushma Seth, Shabana Azmi, and Sadashiv Amrapurkar. From the onset itself it is quite clear that the stars do not get along with each other, although they portray roles to the contrary. Their hatred for each other goes to such an extent that blows and fisticuffs are exchanged. Then one of them gets killed, followed by the deaths of Dayal, and Sushma. The Police are called in, and after conducting an investigation conclude that the person responsible for these deaths is Kuku - a mentally ill man, who was present at the scene of the crime and in possession of a gun. But Naseeruddin has his doubts whether Kuku is the real killer- and the only way to find that out is to put Shabana as a bait to lure the killer out into the open. The question remains will Shabana permit herself to be the bait, and even if so, will the real killer, if any, will show his true colors and expose himself.

Chopra (Devanāgarī: चोपड़ा, IAST: chopṛa) is a Punjabi Khatri family name.
Chopra is a Punjabi Khatri clan and belongs to the Bara-Ghar (12 House) Khatri section.
The earliest reference to this family name dates back to around 400 AD. One of the important characters of a famous Punjabi legend 'Raja Rasalu' is minister Mahita Chopra. Most scholars agree that Raja Rasalu is a historical figure that ruled from Sialkot and lived sometime between 400 to 500 AD. If this is true, then the Chopra family name developed by that time.
Other references are more recent. The father and son pair of the Diwan Sawan Mal and Mul Raj Chopra were successive governors of Multan under Maharaja Ranjit Singh in the early 1800s.

Vidhu Vinod Chopra (Punjabi:ਵਿਧੁ ਵਿਨੋਦ ਚੋਪਰਾ, Hindi:विधु विनोद चोपड़ा) (born on 5 September 1952) is an Indian film director, screenwriter and producer. Parinda, 1942: A Love Story, Eklavya: The Royal Guard, Munna Bhai films (Munna Bhai M.B.B.S. and Lage Raho Munna Bhai) and 3 Idiots are some of his highly popular films. He is the founder of Vinod Chopra Films.
Born in a Punjabi family of Kashmir, Chopra grew up in Srinagar, India. His father was D. N. Chopra and veteran filmmaker Ramanand Sagar was his half-brother. His love of Hindi cinema and support of his family encouraged him to study film direction. Since there was no college for film-related courses in North India, he went to Pune and studied film direction at the Film and Television Institute of India.
Chopra's first student short, Murder At Monkey Hill, won the National Film Award for Best Short Experimental Film and the Guru Dutt Memorial Award for Best Student Film.
This was followed by a short documentary highlighting the plight of India's destitute children, called An Encounter with Faces, which was nominated for an Academy Award in the Documentary Short Subject category in 1979. It also won the Grand Prix at the Tampere Film Festival in 1980.

Anil Kapoor (Hindi: अनिल कपूर; Punjabi: ਅਨਿਲ ਕਪੂਰ; born 24 December 1959) is an Indian actor, producer and director who has appeared in many Bollywood films and more recently international films.
He won his first Filmfare Award, in the Best Supporting Actor category, for his role in Yash Chopra's Mashaal (1984). Kapoor earned his first Filmfare Best Actor Award for his performance in N. Chandra's Tezaab (1988) and later again for his perfornance in Indra Kumar's Beta (1992). He also starred in many other critically and commercially successful films, including Woh Saat Din (1983), Meri Jung (1985), Janbaaz (1986), Karma (1986), Mr. India (1987), Virasat (1997) for which he won the Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actor, Biwi No.1 (1999), Taal (1999) for which he won his second Filmfare Best Supporting Actor Award, Pukar (2000) for which he won his first National Film Award for Best Actor, No Entry (2005), and Welcome (2007).
Kapoor's first role in an international film was in Danny Boyle's 2008 Academy Award-winning film Slumdog Millionaire, for which he shared the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture. His performance in the eighth season of the action series 24 generated rave reviews from the American press. Globally, Anil Kapoor is one of the most recognised Indian actors. He has also appeared in the 2011 film Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol.

Director: Vidhu Vinod Chopra Writers: Vidhu Vinod Chopra Genre: Suspense, Murder Mystery IMDB Rating : 7.3/10 Stars: Shabana Azmi, Amol Palekar, Naseeruddin Shah, Soni Razdan, Sudhir Mishra, Pankaj Kapoor, Sadashiv Amrapurkar, Sushma Seth, Story: A Bollywood unit decides to travel to scenic Pahalgam in Kashmir to complete an yet untitled movie. The stars are Naseerudin Shah, Amol Palekar, Sushma Seth, Shabana Azmi, and Sadashiv Amrapurkar. From the onset itself it is quite clear that the stars do not get along with each other, although they portray roles to the contrary. Their hatred for each other goes to such an extent that blows and fisticuffs are exchanged. Then one of them gets killed, followed by the deaths of Dayal, and Sushma. The Police are called in, and after conducting an investigation conclude that the person responsible for these deaths is Kuku - a mentally ill man, who was present at the scene of the crime and in possession of a gun. But Naseeruddin has his doubts whether Kuku is the real killer- and the only way to find that out is to put Shabana as a bait to lure the killer out into the open. The question remains will Shabana permit herself to be the bait, and even if so, will the real killer, if any, will show his true colors and expose himself. -

He vividly talks about this movie which he thinks is completely different from the movies he has produced for Bollywood, and how he's excited about this film which has the ruggedness of a western film. Though he says publicity or fame doesn't scare him, he prefers to shield himself from the publicity his successful projects generate as it keeps him from becoming a victim of his own success. As a Kashmiri, Mr Chopra is hopeful that the new coalition government in the state would work towards helping the Kashmiri pandits return to their land.

Speaker Biography
Vidhu Vinod Chopra is an acclaimed Indian film director, screenwriter and producer. He was born in Kashmir and studied film making at the Film & Television Institute, Pune. His first documentary, An Encounter With Faces, highlighted the plight of India's destitute children. It was nominated for an Oscar in the Documentary Short Subject category in 1978.
Since then, Vinod has directed films like Khamosh, Parinda, 1942 – A Love Story, Mission Kashmir and Eklavya – The Royal Guard. Of these, Parinda and Eklavya – The Royal Guard were nominated as India's official entries to the Oscars in the Best Foreign Film category in 1989 and 2007 respectively.
After the success of Mission Kashmir, Vinod decided to produce films and encourage new directorial talent. The result: 3 idiots, Lage Raho Munna Bhai and Munna Bhai MBBS with Rajkumar Hirani, Parineeta with Pradeep Sarkar and Ferrari Ki Sawaari with Rajesh Mapuskar. Each a critically acclaimed film and a box-office success.
Vinod is making his English language directorial debut with Broken Horses, an epic thriller set in the shadows of the US-Mexico gang wars; a story about bonds of brotherhood, the laws of loyalty and the futility of violence. Vinod's team on Broken Horses includes Oscar®-nominated Tom Stern (The Hunger Games Changeling, and Million Dollar Baby) as the Director of Photography, Toby Corbett (Crossing Over, Bad Lieutenant) as Production Designer, Emmy-nominated Mary Vogt (Men In Black 3, Batman Returns) as Costume Designer and Todd E. Miller (The Expendables 2, The Mechanic) as Editor.
The latest release from Vidhu Vinod Chopra's banner is P.K., a satirical science fiction comedy film directed by Rajkumar Hirani and starring Aamir Khan and Anushka Sharma. The film has earned worldwide acclaim and emerged as the highest-grossing Indian film of all time and ranks as the 66th highest grossing film of 2014 worldwide.

From the onset itself it is quite clear that the stars do not get along with each other, although they portray roles to the contrary. Their hatred for each other goes to such an extent that blows and fisticuffs are exchanged. Then one of them gets killed, followed by the deaths of Dayal, and Sushma. The Police are called in, and after conducting an investigation conclude that the person responsible for these deaths is Kuku - a mentally ill man, who was present at the scene of the crime and in possession of a gun. But Naseeruddin has his doubts whether Kuku is the real killer- and the only way to find that out is to put Shabana as a bait to lure the killer out into the open. The question remains will Shabana permit herself to be the bait, and even if so, will the real killer, if any, will show his true colors and expose himself.

Kolhapur. Noted lyricist and two-time National Award winner Swanand Kirkire on Sunday said he never imagined himself writing lyrics for songs and was rather keen on following a career in direction. However sheer chance made me what I am now, said Kirkire while was speaking at the Abhigyan event organised by KIT College of engineering in the city ... Pune. No one knew what film archiving was before Paramesh Krishnan (P K) Nair set up the National Film Archive of India (NFAI) in a quaint Pune in 1964. 'Nair saab', as he was popularly addressed, passed away on Friday after suffering from multiple health complications ... He would arrange screenings for Ritwik Ghatak, Vidhu Vinod Chopra, Subhash Ghai, Jahnu Barua and Naseeruddin Shah, where he would prepare notes of each film he watched ... ....
