A student's success can be attributed to many things, from their own efforts to the support of their friends and families. But there is a large cast of other characters acting in uncredited roles whose efforts are no less vital to each and every student as they complete their university career. William Thompson -- or Bill, as his friends call him -- is one such character, playing the role of coach, counselor, storyteller, and, of course, bartender to countless students over the past 12 years.
Bill grew up on dairy farm near Woodstock, Ontario, the son of a hard-working dairy farmer -- a man from whom he learned many things, not the least of which is the value of a good story. While he's quick to acknowledge the value of a good education, some of his most formative experiences occurred outside of formal education, at the school of hard knocks. In fact, Bill believes that the best education comes simply by doing: embracing entrepreneurship and the accompanying changes without fear of failure. A belief that was only strengthened during the early 1990's when his career took him to the US and he was exposed to what he describes as a "cultural ability that accepts failure as a part of growth".
This attitude rubbed off on Bill in a big way, and his resulting zest for life has led him to always try new things and become a student of life. Over the years, his studies have earned him a number of titles, including: Host extraordinaire, Purveyor of ales and spirits, Coach, Counselor, Cheese connoisseur, Aspiring wine-maker, Chocolatier, Husband, Father, and Friend. In fact, in light of his disparate interests and accomplishments, it would be safe to say that Bill has never not been in school.
Bill's interaction with students over the years has offered him a rather unique perspective on student life, and given him the opportunity to share in his patrons' ideas, successes, and even the occasional failures. These failures, however, haven't dimmed his optimism one bit. "Young people today are engaged, enthusiastic, naive, opinionated, and any of the things you hear and read that baby boomers say about youth," he says. "That is what young people should be. You can wait until you're my age to be crusty, opinionated, and jaded." And it's with these students exactly whom Bill hopes his message -- a look at one very common stumbling point in every student's academic career -- will resonate with.

We told you recently about a new whistleblower inside the CDC. Now, we know his name: Doctor William Thompson. Doctor Thompson shared his story with Doctor Brian Hooker. Thompson says he stayed quiet for over 10 years after finding a link between vaccines in young black children and autism. Thompson says the CDC knew about this link, and purposely manipulated the evidence removing “Black Babies without birth certificates” from the study to justify their own multi-billion dollar vaccination operation.
Belsie González, Senior Public Affairs Specialist for the CDC responded to our inquiry admitting the omission of the data based on the children’s birth certificates, here’s the statement:
“Access to the information on the birth certificates allowed researchers to assess more complete information on race as well as other important characteristics, including possible risk factors for autism such as the child’s birth weight, mother’s age, and education. This information was not available for the children without birth certificates; hence CDC study did not present data by race on black, white, or other race children from the whole study sample. It presented the results on black and white/other race children from the group with birth certificates.”
That’s a pretty telling statement - worded very carefully - but a clear admission that the CDC DID NOT present data because the children without Birth Certificates lacked meta data on risk factors - including Race.
Today the CDC still claims the “MMR vaccine does not increase the risk of autism”

Plot: A top salesman with a U.K. toy firm foolishly brings an expensive watch back from a German trip for his wife's birthday. Janice and Lon, in reality sweethearts, plot to gain Thompson's rich holdings. In town, outlaws Kirk Danvers (Marshall Reed (I)') and Hashknife ('Carl Sepulveda' (qv)) try to persuade the intoxicated Dan to let them steal the horses. Thompson breaks with his son again when he sees him drinking. Jimmy and "Cannonball" thwart the horse rustlers and Janice swears secrecy when the trusting-Jimmy tells her that Dan led the horse thieves, but she has Lon inform her husband. Thompson hits Dan, tells him to leave and sends for his attorney to draw up the papers to disinherit his son. Lon kills Thompson, and Dan is jailed on circumstantial evidence. Jimmy and "Cannonball" help him escape jail, but he is wounded and brought to the ranch to have Janice dress his wound. The trusting-Jimmy departs, while Lon awaits in the next room to get rid of the last obstacle in his and Janice's scheme.

Bill grew up on dairy farm near Woodstock, Ontario, the son of a hard-working dairy farmer -- a man from whom he learned many things, not the least of which is the value of a good story. While he's quick to acknowledge the value of a good education, some of his most formative experiences occurred outside of formal education, at the school of hard knocks. In fact, Bill believes that the best education comes simply by doing: embracing entrepreneurship and the accompanying changes without fear of failure. A student's success can be attributed to many things, from their own efforts to the support of their friends and families. But there is a large cast of other characters acting in uncredited roles whose efforts are no less vital to each and every student as they complete their university career. William Thompson -- or Bill, as his friends call him -- is one such character, playing the role of coach, counselor, storyteller, and, of course, bartender to countless students over the past 12 years.
Bill grew up on dairy farm near Woodstock, Ontario, the son of a hard-working dairy farmer -- a man from whom he learned many things, not the least of which is the value of a good story. While he's quick to acknowledge the value of a good education, some of his most formative experiences occurred outside of formal education, at the school of hard knocks. In fact, Bill believes that the best education comes simply by doing: embracing entrepreneurship and the accompanying changes without fear of failure. We told you recently about a new whistleblower inside the CDC. Now, we know his name: Doctor William Thompson. Doctor Thompson shared his story with Doctor Brian Hooker. Thompson says he stayed quiet for over 10 years after finding a link between vaccines in young black children and autism. Thompson says the CDC knew about this link, and purposely manipulated the evidence removing “Black Babies without birth certificates” from the study to justify their own multi-billion dollar vaccination operation.
Belsie González, Senior Public Affairs Specialist for the CDC responded to our inquiry admitting the omission of the data based on the children’s birth certificates, here’s the statement:
“Access to the information on the birth certificates allowed researchers to assess more complete information on race as well as other important characteristics, including possible risk factors for autism such as the child’s birth weight, mother’s age, and education. This information was not available for the children without birth certificates; hence CDC study did not present data by race on black, white, or other race children from the whole study sample. It presented the results on black and white/other race children from the group with birth certificates.”
That’s a pretty telling statement - worded very carefully - but a clear admission that the CDC DID NOT present data because the children without Birth Certificates lacked meta data on risk factors - including Race.
Today the CDC still claims the “MMR vaccine does not increase the risk of autism”

Their ABC has a statutory obligation to present news & current affairs in a balanced fashion - without favouring one viewpoint over others. This, of course, never happens with respect to their ABC's reporting on gay marriage or refugee issues, to cite just two contentious issues & in this morning's case - people camping on footpaths, in doorways, etc, in Melbourne's CBD. I was passing along Swanston St this morning when I chanced to encounter what I was told was a live ABC radio interview with a homeless person in City Square. I stood quietly for a couple of minutes until the "cross" was completed & then the discussion you see in the clip ensued. I accept that a perception of "disrespectfulness" is in the eye of the beholder but I would say this - I think it is disrespectful to the ratepay... -

NB - LANGUAGE WARNING!!! I was Outside Insiders this morning but didn't get a chance to ask Kate Ellis any questions, as she appeared by link from Adelaide. I wanted to know why she associates with the ALP - given all the thieves and/or misogynists that have infested its ranks. Who could forget, say, former ALP national President, Michael Williamson, for example, or that guy who was investigated by VicPol over a rape allegation? The studio panel (David Marr, Phil Coorey & Niki Savva) weren't fussed about my question regarding whether they'd be prepared to release details of their own tax returns. In future, whenever I hear anybody whining about what tax other people pay, I'll ask them this question & I suggest everyone else should do the same. -

David came to EMC 2005 in its acquisition of SMARTS. At SMARTS, he devised and implemented the lastest version of its automated root cause analysis algorithm. David received his Phd in Computer Sciences from Columbia University in 1997. | | 4 years experience in product security assessment and architecture for EMC applications. David Ohsie works on authentication and security architecture for a number of software applications produced by the Advanced Storage Division of EMC Corporation.

Leveraging OWASP in Open Source Projects - CAS AppSec Working Group - Aaron Weaver, David Ohsie, Bill Thompson
The CAS AppSec Working Group is a diverse volunteer team of builders, breakers, and defenders that is working to improve the security of Jasig CAS, an open source WebSSO project. This presentation will show how the team is leveraging OWASP resources to improve security, provide security artifacts for potential adopters, and implementing policy and processes for vulnerability analysis and notification. The story is significant in that it directly addresses OWASP A9 "Using components with Known Vulnerabilities / Secure Coding", and points towards a model that other open source projects could adopt.

David Ohsie
David came to EMC 2005 in its acquisition of SMARTS. At SMARTS, he devised and implemented the lastest version of its automated root cause analysis algorithm. David received his Phd in Computer Sciences from Columbia University in 1997. | | 4 years experience in product security assessment and architecture for EMC applications. David Ohsie works on authentication and security architecture for a number of software applications produced by the Advanced Storage Division of EMC Corporation.
Bill Thompson
IAM Director, Unicon
Bill is the Director of the IAM Practice at Unicon, and leads a team of professionals providing IT consulting services to the Higher Education community with a focus on Identity and Access Management, CAS, Shibboleth, and Grouper. Prior to joining Unicon, Bill served as the Senior Associate Director for the Office of Development at Princeton University, providing leadership and direction for web application development, systems integration, business intelligence, and information technology.

Principal Security Analyst, Pearson Education
Aaron Weaver is Principal Security Analyst at Pearson Education, the leading learning and publishing company. He has played various roles including software developer, system engineer, embedded developer to IT security. He also leads OWASP Philadelphia.
