Ph. D. - I won´t let you down 1982
You ask me if I'm happy here
No doubt about it
You ask me if me love is clear
Want me to shout it
Gave you the best years of me life, woman
I know I failed to treat you right, woman
Don't let me out of here
Don't let me out of here
I won't let you down,
won't let you down again
I won't let you down,
won't let you down again
I won't let you down,
won't let you down again
You say our love is running one way
Coming from your side
No help from me to see it through
To beat the high tide
Take me and chain me if you please, woman
Don't help me dig deeper my grave, woman
Don't let me out of here
Don't let me out of here
I won't let you down,
won't let you down again
I won't let you down,
won't let you down again
I won't let you down,
won't let you down again
(Instrumental)
I won't let you down,

I won't let you down,
won't let you down again
I won't let you down,
won't let you down again

This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Traditionally all PhDs went on to become academic professors. Times have changed. This speaker offers an idea to help prepare graduate students for the real world.
Nadia Jaber is a graduate student at Stony Brook University, pursuing a PhD in Molecular and Cellular Biology. Her thesis work focuses on how mammalian cells discard the chemical signals used to communicate with one another. During her graduate training, she realized she wanted something different than the traditional academic career path that PhDs are geared for. Exploring her interests, she found a passion in science and health communications and has since begun the Advanced Certificate in Health Communications offered by the Alan AldaCenter for Communicating Science. Her goal is to use her science background to disseminate important health and science information in order to empower the general public to make educated decisions.
Outside of science and communications, Nadia likes to try new recipes, paint quotes for her Etsy shop, take kickboxing classes and sail around Northport.
About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

...I've often heard Christians complain when an atheist talks about theology even though they're not theologians.
Or atheists will slam the Bible and the response is, "You don't really understand it. You're not a pastor. You didn't go to seminary." So your criticism doesn't matter.
The idea here is that you need to be an expert in a particular religion in order to criticize religious beliefs.
That's an absurd idea.
We're not talking about virgins writing sex advice columns even though they have no idea what they're talking about.
We're just calling out bullshit where we see it. You don't always need a specialized degree for that.
You don't need a Ph.D. in order to say the emperor's not wearing any clothes. Or that it doesn't make sense for a woman to give birth without having sex. Or that snakes don't talk.
Or that God didn't cause whatever natural disaster just happened because there are, you know, natural reasons for it.
It's a funny argument, too. Because speaking on subjects without authority is something religious people do all the time.
Evangelical pastors will talk about how evolution is a secular conspiracy. And man's effect on climate change is negligible. And being gay is a choice.
They're not scientists or climatologists. And I promise you they don't even have gay friends no matter what they tell you.
You don't need to be an expert to state the obvious. The burden of proof is on religious people to justify their wacky beliefs. We're not the bad guys for saying, "That wasn't really a miracle."
Look: if you want to criticize, say, the history of how the Bible was written because you think our understanding of it is wrong, then sure, you should know what you're talking about.
But saying reincarnation makes no sense, or a consecrated communion wafer isn't really the body of Christ, or Adam and Eve weren't the first humans ever?
You don't need a college education for that. You just need to, like, reach the age of 6.
By the way, we do it all the time for religions we all think are silly. We'll laugh at Scientology and Xenu and no one ever says, "You didn't read Dianetics. Go study it for several years and then your laughter will have merit."
I'll tell you what: If you think i need a sophisticated understanding of theology to debunk bad religious ideas, then you better criticize everyone who believes that nonsense without an expert-level understanding of it.

Ph. D. - I won´t let you down 1982
You ask me if I'm happy here
No doubt about it
You ask me if me love is clear
Want me to shout it
Gave you the best years of me life, woman
I know I failed to treat you right, woman
Don't let me out of here
Don't let me out of here
I won't let you down,
won't let you down again
I won't let you down,
won't let you down again
I won't let you down,
won't let you down again
You say our love is running one way
Coming from your side
No help from me to see it through
To beat the high tide

Reimagining the PhD | Nadia Jaber | TEDxSBU
This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Traditionally all PhDs went on to become academic professors. Times have changed. This speaker offers an idea to help prepare graduate students for the real world.
Nadia Jaber is a graduate student at Stony Brook University, pursuing a PhD in Molecular and Cellular Biology. Her thesis work focuses on how mammalian cells discard the chemical signals used to communicate with one another. During her graduate training, she realized she wanted something different than the traditional academic career path that PhDs are geared for. Exploring her interests, she found a passion in science and health communications and has since begun the Advanced Certificate in Health Communications offered by the Alan Alda C...

An excerpt from The PHD Movie 2. Cecilia tries to schedule her thesis defense, and finds that getting four professors to agree on a time and date is like herding cats (if the cats had Ph.D.'s).

You Don'tNeed a Ph D to CriticizeReligionHemant Mehta (http://www.friendlyatheist.com, http://www.patreon.com/Hemant , https://www.facebook.com/friendlyatheist)
Read more here: https://godlessmama.com/2016/03/29/your-theology-isnt-sophisticated-so-just-stop-it/
...I've often heard Christians complain when an atheist talks about theology even though they're not theologians.
I'll tell you what: If you think i need a sophisticated understanding of theology to debunk bad religious ideas, then you better criticize everyone who believes that nonsense without an expert-level understanding of it.

...I've often heard Christians complain when an atheist talks about theology even though they're not theologians.

Is the advice flawed? Or are the students just not working hard enough? Neither; the problem is that the advice generally given consists of tactics, while most students are still trying to figure out the rules of the game.
If you don't know how the system works or what you have to achieve, then being more organised or working harder simply won't work... you'll just end up going insane!

Episode #20PaleoDiet truths explained by Dr. Loren Cordain, Ph.D. the founder of The Paleo Diet. The Paleo Diet is described in detail by the creator and researcher of the OriginalHuman Diet. In this interview Dr. Cordain describes the importance of exercise and a Paleo Diet that is low in sugar and carbohydrates as was found in nature. Following this sort of Paleo Diet template is the fastest way to shed weight. Dr. Cordain explains in this interview the dangers of honey and other Paleo sugars as they wreck blood sugar and are to be avoided as they are similar to high fructose corn syrup.
The original humans were naturally lean and had six packs Dr. Cordain says in this interview as they ate a diet that was legume free, grain free, and dairy free. The Paleo Diet was low carb in nature and low in sugar which promoted an anti-inflammatory state within the body. This is why many popular athletes and people with autoimmune issues follow a Paleo Diet.
Dr. Cordain also discusses Chris Kresser appearance on Dr. Oz this year and his lack of education when it comes to saying legumes should be apart of a Paleo template. Dr. Cordain talks in depth on why legumes have no part in a Paleo Diet and backs this with actual research. The Paleo Diet is all about balance and Dr. Loren Cordain discusses bloggers and authors and the over use of of higher carb and sugar recipes that is stalling consumers of these recipes or possibly causing weigh gain instead of weight loss.
In this episode we hear from the founder himself about the answers to the most controversial subject like is Paleo Low Carb? Does honey wreck blood sugar, what about a Kegogenic Paleo Diet. Did man follow a naturally low carb, low sugar Paleo plan.
Learn the keys in this episode to weight loss using the principles outlined by the founder of The Paleo Diet himself Dr. Loren Cordain.

ResidentialEnergyFeedback: Research, Technology, and Potential for the Informed Home
Research Summary: Scientists and elected officials agree that climate change is an issue that can no longer be ignored and residential energy use is a prime target for reducing emissions, accounting for over 20% of annual emissions. One promising strategy for promoting conservation is the provision of feedback about energy use. Feedback -- the process of giving people information about their behavior to reinforce and/or change behavior--is receiving increasing attention due to changes in technology and infrastructure that allow information to be collected, processed, and sent back to consumers quickly and cheaply. Many programs and products have emerged in recent years, demonstrating political and technical potential for wide-scale provision of energy feedback. However, past work has been critiqued for its lack of theoretical rigor; many have called for more attention to the conditions under which theories are successful in explaining conservation. This research presents an interdisciplinary, mixed methods approach to understanding the role of feedback in residential energy conservation through five distinct, yet interrelated approaches: (1) literature review and integration into a new Eco-Feedback InterventionTheory (eFIT) (2) meta-analysis of past research on residential energy feedback, (3) taxonomy of energy feedback technology, (3) mixed-methods analysis of naturalistic energy feedback users, and (4) introduction and psychometric testing of a Usability PerceptionScale (UPscale). As a whole, it seeks to extend what is known about energy feedback and to make suggestions for future research and practice. While there much research addressing whether feedback works, there has been little research into the more nuanced questions of how and for whom it works best. The present research aims to address this need.

Ph. D. - I won´t let you down 1982
You ask me if I'm happy here
No doubt about it
You ask me if me love is clear
Want me to shout it
Gave you the best years of me life, woman
I know I failed to treat you right, woman
Don't let me out of here
Don't let me out of here
I won't let you down,
won't let you down again
I won't let you down,
won't let you down again
I won't let you down,
won't let you down again
You say our love is running one way
Coming from your side
No help from me to see it through
To beat the high tide
Take me and chain me if you please, woman
Don't help me dig deeper my grave, woman
Don't let me out of here
Don't let me out of here
I won't let you down,
won't let you down again
I won't let you down,
won't let you down again
I won't let you down,
won't let you down again
(Instrumental)
I won't let you down,
won't let you down again
I won't let you down,
won't let you down again
I won't let you down,
won't let you down again
I won't let you down,
won't let you down again

An excerpt from The PHD Movie 2. Cecilia tries to schedule her thesis defense, and finds that getting four professors to agree on a time and date is like herding cats (if the cats had Ph.D.'s).
NatureJournal called the movie "astute, funny" and The New York Times claims, "Well, postdocs will find it funny". Watch the movie that perfectly captures life (or the lack thereof) in Academia.

Day in the life of a PhD student
A fun look at a typical day in the life of a PhD student.

There is no shortage of PhD advice out there; how to be more organised, how to procrastinate less, how to sort your data and so on... And yet there is no shortage of stressed PhD students either.
In this talk, you will learn the fundamental principles every PhD student needs to know in order to succeed.
