The Little Princess is a 1939 American drama film directed by Walter Lang. The screenplay by Ethel Hill and Walter Ferris is loosely based on the novel A Little Princess by Frances Hodgson Burnett. The film was the first Shirley Temple movie to be filmed completely in Technicolor. It was also her last major success as a child star. In 1899, the young Sarah Crewe (Shirley Temple) is placed into an exclusive London boarding school by her widowed father, a wealthy British army officer about to embark for South Africa and fight in the second Boer war. However, things take a turn for the worse when her father is reported dead in battle and his South African financial holdings confiscated by the enemy, leaving her alone and penniless.

I admire this dance very much as Shirley was scared to tap dance on the piano as she thought she would fall off so my hat off to her and it's very cute too!

I LOVE IT!!!!!
5.the dance number from baby take a bow on accounta I love you Shirley dances with my favorite co-star James Dunn I could watch them till the end of time lol everything about this dance number shouts cute! the tutu is so beautiful! what amazes me most is Shirley's ability to tap dance extremely well take instruction just everything!
4.the dance number from Captain January at the codfish ball I cannot say how much I love this dance and what's absolutely fantastic about this dance it only took 1 hour for Shirley to learn!!!! which is just mind blowing! and when you see them dancing it's them dancing for the first time they had no rehearsals together which is why the dance looks so natural and why I love it so much!
3.the dance number from stand up and cheer! daddy take a bow this was Shirley's debut and probably one of Shirley's most iconic dance numbers with the famous red polka dot dress again amazing Shirley only had a few days to learn the dance as Shirley didn't come on the film till they were half way during filming she is just too adorable for words!

Captain Crewe (played by Ian Hunter), called to fight in the Second Boer War, has to leave his daughter Sara (Shirley Temple) with her pony at Miss Minchin's School for Girls. With all the money Captain Crewe can offer, Miss Minchin gives Sara a fancy, private room.
Although worried about her father, Sara is distracted by riding lessons. Sara hears news that Mafeking is free and expects her father will soon come home. Miss Minchin throws Sarah a lavish birthday party. During the party, Captain Crewe's solicitor arrives with the sad news that Captain Crewe has died and his real estate, the basis for his wealth, has been confiscated. Miss Minchin ends Sara's party abruptly. Without her father's financial support, Sara becomes a servant, now working at the school she used to attend. Sara gains new solace in a friendship with Ram Dass (Cesar Romero) who lives next door. She also receives support from Miss Minchin's brother, Hubert, who does not agree with her treatment.
In her new role Sara gets hungrier and more tired from her arduous duties and sneaks off to Veterans Hospitals, convinced her father is not dead. After a string of episodes including a performance of the film's most well-known song "Knocked 'em in the Old Kent Road", Sara is at her wits end. Taunting from Lavinia (Marcia Mae Jones) cause Sara to lose her temper. Miss Minchin arrives in the attic, discovers blankets that Ram Dass left Sara, assumes they are stolen, and locks her in the attic, calling the police. Sara escapes and runs to the hospital with Minchin in hot pursuit.
Meanwhile the hospital is preparing to transfer a newly arrived patient, who is unable to communicate except to repeatedly say, "Sara, Sara"; it is Captain Crewe, but "his papers have been lost" and no one knows who he is. Sara is initially barred from entering the hospital but sneaks in, only to burst in upon a visit by Queen Victoria, who grants her permission to search for her father. Sara searches the wards unsuccessfully, but happens upon her father as she hides from Miss Minchin and the police.
Miss Minchin, who pursued Sara to the hospital, is appalled that her brother thinks Sara is innocent. A staff member announces Sara has found her father, Miss Minchin exclaims: "Captain Crewe is alive?!" to which her brother retorts, "Of course he's alive! How could she find him if he wasn't alive?" The film ends with Sara helping her father stand as the Queen departs.

Shirley Jane Temple (born April 23, 1928), later Shirley Temple Black, is an American film and television actress, singer, dancer, autobiographer, and former U.S. Ambassador to Ghana and Czechoslovakia. She began her film career in 1932 at the age of three, and in 1934, found international fame in Bright Eyes, a feature film designed specifically for her talents. She received a special Juvenile Academy Award in February 1935, and film hits such as Curly Top and Heidi followed year after year during the mid-to-late 1930s. Licensed merchandise that capitalized on her wholesome image included dolls, dishes, and clothing. Her box office popularity waned as she reached adolescence, and she left the film industry at the age of 12 to attend high school[clarification needed]. She appeared in a few films of varying quality in her mid-to-late teens, and retired completely from films in 1950 at the age of 22. She was the top box-office draw four years in a row (1935–38) in a Motion Picture Herald poll.

Larry King (born November 19, 1933) is an American television and radio host whose work has been recognized with awards including two Peabodys and ten Cable ACE Awards. He began as a local Florida journalist and radio interviewer in the 1950s and 1960s and became prominent as an all-night national radio broadcaster starting in 1978. From 1985-2010, he hosted the nightly interview TV program Larry King Live on CNN.
King was born Lawrence Harvey Zeiger in Brooklyn, New York City, to an Austrian immigrant Edward Zeiger, a restaurant owner and defense plant worker, and his wife Jennie Gitlitz, a garment worker, who emigrated from Belarus. King grew up in a religiously observant Jewish home, but in adulthood became an agnostic.
King's father died at 44 of heart disease, and his mother had to go on welfare to support her two sons. His father's death greatly affected King, and he lost interest in school. After graduating from high school, he worked to help support his mother. From an early age, however, he had wanted to go into radio. King is a fan of the Los Angeles Dodgers.

One of his hires is Clyde Tolson who is quickly promoted to Assistant Director and would be Hoover's confidant and companion for the rest of Hoover's life. Hoover's memories have him playing a greater role in the many high profile cases the FBI was involved in - the Lindbergh baby kidnapping, the arrest of bank robbers like John Dillinger - and also show him to be quite adept at manipulating the various politicians he's worked with over his career, thanks in large part to his secret files.

I admire this dance very much as Shirley was scared to tap dance on the piano as she thought she would fall off so my hat off to her and it's very cute too!

I LOVE IT!!!!!
5.the dance number from baby take a bow on accounta I love you Shirley dances with my favorite co-star James Dunn I could watch them till the end of time lol everything about this dance number shouts cute! the tutu is so beautiful! what amazes me most is Shirley's ability to tap dance extremely well take instruction just everything!
4.the dance number from Captain January at the codfish ball I cannot say how much I love this dance and what's absolutely fantastic about this dance it only took 1 hour for Shirley to learn!!!! which is just mind blowing! and when you see them dancing it's them dancing for the first time they had no rehearsals together which is why the dance looks so natural and why I love it so much!
3.the dance number from stand up and cheer! daddy take a bow this was Shirley's debut and probably one of Shirley's most iconic dance numbers with the famous red polka dot dress again amazing Shirley only had a few days to learn the dance as Shirley didn't come on the film till they were half way during filming she is just too adorable for words!

1.the dance number from poor little rich girl military man you are probably wondering why on earth this dance is at number one this is the most complicated dance number Shirley did! it took Shirley 1 week to learn it's extremely fast paced Shirley struggled with the number and I don't blame her!!! Shirley danced with Alice Faye and Jack Haley it took a long time for the dance to be recorded as mistakes kept being made as all 3 had to be insync with each other every time I see this dance it amazes me how a little child could learn this dance so quickly and perform it will adults

4.the dance number from Captain January at the codfish ball I cannot say how much I love this dance and what's absolutely fantastic about this dance it only took 1 hour for Shirley to learn!!!! which is just mind blowing! and when you see them dancing it's them dancing for the first time they had no rehearsals together which is why the dance looks so natural and why I love it so much!

1.the dance number from poor little rich girl military man you are probably wondering why on earth this dance is at number one this is the most complicated dance number Shirley did! it took Shirley 1 week to learn it's extremely fast paced Shirley struggled with the number and I don't blame her!!! Shirley danced with Alice Faye and Jack Haley it took a long time for the dance to be recorded as mistakes kept being made as all 3 had to be insync with each other every time I see this dance it amazes me how a little child could learn this dance so quickly and perform it will adults

Captain Crewe (played by Ian Hunter), called to fight in the Second Boer War, has to leave his daughter Sara (Shirley Temple) with her pony at Miss Minchin's School for Girls. With all the money Captain Crewe can offer, Miss Minchin gives Sara a fancy, private room.
Although worried about her father, Sara is distracted by riding lessons. Sara hears news that Mafeking is free and expects her father will soon come home. Miss Minchin throws Sarah a lavish birthday party. During the party, Captain Crewe's solicitor arrives with the sad news that Captain Crewe has died and his real estate, the basis for his wealth, has been confiscated. Miss Minchin ends Sara's party abruptly. Without her father's financial support, Sara becomes a servant, now working at the school she used to attend. Sara gains new solace in a friendship with Ram Dass (Cesar Romero) who lives next door. She also receives support from Miss Minchin's brother, Hubert, who does not agree with her treatment.
In her new role Sara gets hungrier and more tired from her arduous duties and sneaks off to Veterans Hospitals, convinced her father is not dead. After a string of episodes including a performance of the film's most well-known song "Knocked 'em in the Old Kent Road", Sara is at her wits end. Taunting from Lavinia (Marcia Mae Jones) cause Sara to lose her temper. Miss Minchin arrives in the attic, discovers blankets that Ram Dass left Sara, assumes they are stolen, and locks her in the attic, calling the police. Sara escapes and runs to the hospital with Minchin in hot pursuit.
Meanwhile the hospital is preparing to transfer a newly arrived patient, who is unable to communicate except to repeatedly say, "Sara, Sara"; it is Captain Crewe, but "his papers have been lost" and no one knows who he is. Sara is initially barred from entering the hospital but sneaks in, only to burst in upon a visit by Queen Victoria, who grants her permission to search for her father. Sara searches the wards unsuccessfully, but happens upon her father as she hides from Miss Minchin and the police.
Miss Minchin, who pursued Sara to the hospital, is appalled that her brother thinks Sara is innocent. A staff member announces Sara has found her father, Miss Minchin exclaims: "Captain Crewe is alive?!" to which her brother retorts, "Of course he's alive! How could she find him if he wasn't alive?" The film ends with Sara helping her father stand as the Queen departs.

Two teenaged girls cause their respective parents cause for concern when they start to become interested in boys. The parents' bickering about who is the worst influence causes more problems than it solves.
The movie was based on the Broadway play Kiss and Tell, which was based on the Corliss Archer short stories. The stories, play and movie were all written by F. Hugh Herbert. A sequel film, A Kiss for Corliss, was released in 1949 and also starred Temple, but was not written by Herbert.
