Marr (Scottish Gaelic: Màrr) is one of six committee areas in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. It has a population of 34,038 (2001 Census). Someone from Marr is called a Màrnach in Scottish Gaelic.
To the west, the mountain environment of the Cairngorms National Park sustains a well-developed tourist industry based on heritage and outdoor pursuits. Forestry and livestock farming are key industries, particularly in remoter areas. Part of the area has qualified for EU financial assistance. To the east, Marr has experienced population growth due to its strong commuter links with the city of Aberdeen.
The committee area consists of three wards of Aberdeenshire council:
Between them the three wards elect 10 councillors to the sixty-eight member council.
Marr is named after Mar, one of the historic districts of Scotland, extending from north of the Don southward to the Mounth. Like other such districts, it was under the rule of a mormaer in the Middle Ages. In the 12th century an earl (the Earl of Mar) took his place, but no definite succession of earls appears till the 13th century, nor is any connection established between them and the mormaers.
The Taking is a 2004 novel written by Dean Koontz.
In the midst of an oddly sudden rain storm, author Molly Sloan awakens in the middle of the night. Unable to return to sleep, she leaves her husband Neil slumbering in bed and goes downstairs to work on a manuscript in progress.
Dark shapes huddle on her porch – coyotes from the nearby forest. She wonders what could have frightened such animals into leaving the sanctuary of the deep woods to brave the proximity of human beings. Disturbed, she steps outside, to stand among the wild beasts, and is frightened herself – not by the animals, but by the strange, oddly luminescent rain. On an instinctual level, she realizes that there is something unclean about the rain.
Once she comes back to the house, Molly and her husband Neil search for information in the news. They are only able to gather that the same phenomenon is taking place all over the world, before all communications are lost. They decide to flee their isolated home, gathering with the residents of the nearby small mountain town, in order to prepare a resistance, though they are not even sure against what they will be fighting. After 10 hours of downpour, the rain stops. In its place, a thick, ominous fog obscures everything, reducing trees and buildings to looming shadows. By then, Molly and Neil are in the town's tavern, where around 60 people have gathered with dogs and children. It is implied that the phenomenon is the product of an alien invasion.
Front line refers to the forward-most forces on a battlefield.

A Crime of Insanity: PBS Frontline "In 1994, Ralph Tortorici took a college class hostage with a high-powered rifle and demanded to speak to the president, the governor, and the Supreme Court. That Ralph Tortorici was mentally ill was apparent to everyone. What was not so clear was how the courts should deal with his case. Frontline examines the controversial case of Ralph Tortorici."
Originally aired on February 15, 1994. On a quiet Sunday morning at home in the San Fernando Valley, a freelance reporter got a call from an expert in child sex crimes: Michael Jackson was under investigation. By the time the reporter's story aired twenty-four hours later, the media feeding frenzy was underway. Within a matter of days of the first report, the Jackson story had jumped from hard, verifiable news to spectacle and entertainment. FRONTLINE correspondent Richard Ben Cramer goes behind the scenes of the television coverage of the Michael Jackson story to look at the people, organizations, and economic pressures that have led to the tabloidization of American television. The program follows a few of the most exuberant and successful of the tabloid press as they pursue the Jackson ...

In this landscape photography vlog, I fulfilled a dream and travel to one of the most photographed countries in the world. Ever since I started my landscape photography journey, I wanted to go visit Iceland to witness first hand the epic landscapes and waterfalls this country has to offer. I leave the beautiful landscapes of the UK behind, and fly to Reykjavík where I pick up my rental motorhome that will be my accomodation for the week, more about that later. I drive north to Snæfellsjökull, and spend the day visiting the Black Church and bird covered coastlines and exploring amazing waterfalls that are just a short walking distance from parks along the main road. I arrived at, Kirkjufell Mountain and the gorgeous Kirkjufellsfoss. It was around 8:00pm so there were still plenty of photo...
The other morning, when I woke up and saw that we were cover in a blanket of fog, I quickly grabbed my camera, a few lenses took off to a pine forest, not far from where I live. The radio mentioned that was the entire Metro area was covered, but I decided to stay local. The Joondalup Lake are was a location I was really keen to photography in these conditions. When I arrived, the forest was covered with a thick layer of fog. I walked around the area for a few minutes looking at the effect the fog had on the trees. I then quickly realised that the fog was moving relatively quickly. I wasn’t sure how long I had so I decided on a composition and set up my camera. Shooting in fog often requires large apertures with a small depth of field. It doesn’t matter if the background is out of focus a...

When I posted that video, I received a number of comments asking me to create a video on how I edited the image to get such a dramatic effect. So that’s what’s this video is all about. When I arrived at the Bauchaille the temptation was to just start shooting but I wanted to find a location where there was some foreground interest that would help lead the eye up to the mountain. For this shot I used the path coming gin from the left hand side. For most the morning it was dark and cloudy and I had to wait for the sunshine to break through the clouds...
In this landscape photography vlog, the kids and I drive down to Wyadup Bay and explore the rocks and coastline for the afternoon. Just south of the bay we discovered an interesting cove surrounded by rocks that were covered in green moss. With the setting sun moving behind the cloud the light was fading fast, so I quickly set the Fuji X-T2 up on the trip with the Fujinon 10-24mm lens. On the front I had the Lee Filter mount with the 105m Lee Filter polariser to cut through any glare of the wet rocks and the surface of the water as well as the 0.9 soft graduated Lee Filter to reduce the light out in the sky so I had a more evenly exposed image. With an f-stop of f14 on ISO 200, this gave me a shutter speed of 1/4 of a second, just perfect to capture the waves as they crashed of the efferv...
For 10% off your first purchase at Squarespace, go to http://www.squarespace.com/andrewmarr So in my last video, where I took a trip up to the Lancelin Sand Dunes, I captured my final image using focus stacking where I took a series of photos with the camera focused at different points throughout the scene. Now I was asked by a few people in the comments if I could show how I merged the series of shots together to get the final image, so that’s what we’re going to do in this video. Now the reason you might consider using focus stacking is to increase your Depth of Field (the region of the image that is in focus). We know that you can do this by increasing your f-stop to f14 or f16, much higher than that and you could introduce diffusion which is an optical effect due to the light traveli...
In this Landscape Photography vlog, I travel down from Glenceo to Ambleside and ask some of the locals where a good location would be for a landscape photo. Some of the locals gave me direction to Jenkyn’s Crag. So I parked the car in town and hiked up the hill and through the woods to the spectacular lookout. Along the way I find interesting scene from light piecing through the clouds over far distance mountains to small creeks providing the perfect excuse to stop and catch my breath (and naturally capture an image). At Jenkyn’s Crag, I am greeted with a spectacular view, however the clouds have built up on the horizon and blocked the light from the sunset. Despite this, I forge ahead and capture the vistas through a 9 image pano each bracketed with 2 stops above and below. It is with ...
As you guys know, I love taking photos, particularly landscape photography. It doesn’t matter whether I’m using my Nikon or Fujifilm or even my iPhone. In fact when I started my Instagram account the phones I uploaded for the first three years were captured exclusively using my iPhone. So when I bought the new iPhone X that Apple released recently, I was keen to take it out to the beach and use it to capture a landscape photo. The main principles behind using an iPhone for landscape photography are similar to those you should follow using any other camera, whether that’s a full frame or mirrorless. If possible manually control the camera for great flexibility and creatively, shoot in RAW or a format that captures the greatest amount of detail. Also make sure your camera is mounted to a t...

I started hiking north up the coast and was met with an abundance of wildlife and wildflowers, clearly spring is in full swing. I arrived at the Quinninup Falls just after sunrise not that it mattered because the sky was covered in a thick blanket of cloud so I wasn’t going to see the sunrise today. However I was spoilt with endless gorgeous views of this magnificent rugged coastline Just as I entered the valley the rain set in. I explored the area for possible compositions while waiting for a break in the weather. Once the rain ea...

In this landscape photography vlog, it’s an early start to catch the sunrise. I drive east to a location called Iceberg Lagoon. Where large icebergs that have broken off the glacier slowly float down the lagoon to where it meets the sea. Not having much experience with shooting icebergs, I explore the shore of the lagoon to find a simple composition made up of layers, ice in the foreground, large icebergs in the mid ground and the mountains providing an breathtaking backdrop. Using the Nikon 70-200mm lens to get in tight to the ice formations, I add a polariser to cut out the glare from the surface of the water and a 6 stop Lee Filter Little Stopper to slow down the shutter, removing the ripples and smoothening out the water. It was so calm and peaceful. I then walk across to the beach si...
