The International BOOKFAIR of Radical Black & Third world Books - A meeting of the continents May 10th, 2005, London - Presentation of "A Meeting of the Continents", book recalling the history, memories, organisation and programmes of the International BOOKFAIR of Radical Black & Third world Books (1982-1995) - book edited by Sarah White, Roxy Harris and Sharmilla Beezmohun In this rough cut edit, which is part of a George Padmore Institute (GPI) and Agence IM'media 2016 project for video archive digit', Roxy Harris recalls some of his souvenirs such as the very beginning of John La Rose's "crazy" idea of launching in 1982 an international Bookfair, one year after the Brixton, Toxteh and elsewhere insurrections, in the midst of huge number of campaigns for Racial equality & Social justice; Linton Kwesi Johnson (LKJ) pays tribute to Michael Smith's poetry with "It a come" and Jean Binta Breeze gives her "Riddym ravings (the mad woman's poem)" Mad endeed? Roxy reminds the achievements of Black artists in Britain, Alex Pascall "talks to the drum" at the childrens' supplementary schools venue (Bookfair 1991), Pamberi Steel Orchestra play bits and pieces (Bookfair 1995).
