LODHI GARDEN: A short trip to Lodhi Garden, which is a Km. East of Surfdurjung Monument in Delhi. Being here gives us a feel of 15th century, which was a very important and turning point in history of Bharat and was known as the period of Delhi Saltant Dynasties.
This place was landscaped in 1936 AD i.e during the British Raj by Lady Willingdon who was the wife of Governor-General of India and has Historical Monuments of Sayyid and Lodihi Dynasty.

Lodi garden is nicely tucked away from the chaos of the city. Flanked on one side by khan market and Safdarjung Tomb on another side, it is one of the oldest gardens in Delhi. It was also home to one of Delhi's oldest dynasty, the Lodi Dynasty.

Lodhi Gardens (Hindi: लोधी बाग़, Urdu: لودھی باغ) is a city park situated in New Delhi, India. Spread over 90 acres (360,000 m2), it contains, Mohammed Shah's Tomb, Tomb of Sikandar Lodi, Shisha Gumbad and Bara Gumbad,architectural works of the 15th century by Lodhis- who ruled parts of northern India and Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of modern-day Pakistan, from 1451 to 1526. The site is now protected by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI).
The gardens are situated between Khan Market and Safdarjung's Tomb on Lodhi Road and is a hotspot for morning walks for the Delhiites.
History
The tomb of Mohammed Shah, the last of the Sayyid dynasty rulers, the earliest of the tombs in the garden, was built in 1444 by Ala-ud-din Alam Shah as a tribute to Mohammed Shah.
As there is little architecture from these two periods remaining in India, Lodhi Gardens is an important place of preservation. The tomb of Mohammed Shah is visible from the road, and is the earliest structure in the gardens. The architecture is characterised by the octagonal chamber, with stone chhajjas on the roof and guldastas on the corners.

New Delhi
New Delhi (
i/ˌnjuː ˈdɛli/) is a municipality and district in Delhi which serves as the capital and seat of government of India. In addition, it also serves as the seat of Government of Delhi.
The foundation stone of the city was laid by George V, Emperor of India during the Delhi Durbar of 1911. It was designed by British architects, Sir Edwin Lutyens and Sir Herbert Baker. The new capital was inaugurated on 13 February 1931, by India's Viceroy Lord Irwin.
Although colloquially Delhi and New Delhi as names are used interchangeably to refer to the jurisdiction of NCT of Delhi, these are two distinct entities, and the latter is a small part of the former.
New Delhi has been selected as one of the hundred Indian cities to be developed as a smart city under PM Narendra Modi's flagship Smart Cities Mission.
Establishment
Calcutta (now Kolkata) was the capital of India during the British Raj until December 1911. However, Delhi had served as the political and financial centre of several empires of ancient India and the Delhi Sultanate, most notably of the Mughal Empire from 1649 to 1857. During the early 1900s, a proposal was made to the British administration to shift the capital of the British Indian Empire (as it was officially called) from Calcutta to Delhi. Unlike Calcutta, which was located on the eastern coast of India, Delhi was at the center of northern India and the Government of British India felt that it would be logistically easier to administer India from the latter rather than the former.

Lodi garden is nicely tucked away from the chaos of the city. Flanked on one side by khan market and Safdarjung Tomb on another side, it is one of the oldest gardens in Delhi. It was also home to one of Delhi's oldest dynasty, the Lodi Dynasty.

Within the busy and dense city of New Delhi is a place of natural beauty. The Lodhi Gardens are 90 acres of rich plant life, as well as several historic tombs. There is the tomb of Sikandar Lodi, the second Sultan of Delhi. These tombs are some of the few remaining examples of 15th and 16th century Indian architecture. Mohammed Shah, among the last Sayyid rulers, also has a tomb in the Lodhi Gardens. The serenity of these gardens makes them an ideal place for a bit of peace. Lodi Gardens are one of the pleasantest green spaces in Delhi - with some labelled trees to help visitors from overseas become familiar with the Indian flora. The area was used as a burial for Delhi's (pre-Mughal) Sayyid and Lodi rulers. Mohammad Shar's tomb (1450) can be seen as a predecessor for architecture of Humayun's tomb and Sikander Lodi's tomb (1571) is set within a walled enclosure and clearly related to Humayun's tomb garden. The domed mausoleums appear to have been sited in an open landscape, rather as the Ancient Greeks placed temples. The building of monumental tombs runs against the principles of Islam and it is probable that Delhi's Turkish Sultans brought the idea from Persia to India. Lodi Gardens - New Delhi, India
Lodhi Gardens is a city park situated in New Delhi, India. Spread over 90 acres (360,000 m2),it contains, Mohammed Shah's Tomb, Tomb of Sikandar Lodi, Shisha Gumbad and Bara Gumbad,[ architectural works of the 15th century by Lodhis, an Afghan dynasty, that ruled parts of northern India and Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of modern-day Pakistan, from 1451 to 1526. The site is now protected by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). The gardens are situated between Khan Market and Safdarjung's Tomb on Lodhi Road and is a hotspot for morning walks for the Delhiites

The area was used as a burial for Delhi's (pre-Mughal) Sayyid and Lodi rulers. Mohammad Shar's tomb (1450) can be seen as a predecessor for architecture of Humayun's tomb and Sikander Lodi's tomb (1571) is set within a walled enclosure and clearly related to Humayun's tomb garden. The domed mausoleums appear to have been sited in an open landscape, rather as the Ancient Greeks placed temples. The building of monumental tombs runs against the principles of Islam and it is probable that Delhi's Turkish Sultans brought the idea from Persia to India. Lodi Gardens are therefore a good place to reflect on the origins of Mughal garden design. By the nineteenth century the tombs were occupied by squatters. After the land passed into the ownership of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) the squatters were moved, with some acrimony, and the land was treated as a public park. Possibly because the tombs have a formal kinship to Palladian temples, this treatment seems visually appropriate - at least to European eyes.

Delhi City Guide | India Travel Video Transcript:
Well good morning from Delhi. It is our first day of sightseeing. Sam's parents arrived last night. Yeah. We've got the full group for travels. The squad is ready. We're going to be doing. We're going to be in Delhi for a couple of days.
Yeah, just a that is how we're kicking things off. And yeah we just started by walking around today. We're visiting the Red Fort (लाल क़िला - لال قلعہ) right now.
All over India. Yeah, so right now we're visiting the Red Fort (लाल क़िला - لال قلعہ) and honestly this is probably going to be a bit of a different format because we obviously want to spend time with Sam's parents. I don't think we're going to be filming as much but we're going to show you some of the highlights and kind of see how it works out. So let's go tour Delhi now.
After wandering around the Red Fort for an hour or so, it was time for a little break, so we decided to introduce my parents to their first cup of masala chai in India.
From there we went on a short tour of Old Delhi during rush hour, which in retrospect may not have been the best idea. It was a little too crowded to walk, so we popped into a restaurant for lunch instead.
After visiting Humayun’s Tomb, we took two cycle rickshaws over to the Lodi Gardens. It was getting close to lunch hour, so first we stopped at “Lodi - The Garden Restaurant” where we had a really nice meal in an outdoor setting. From there we were just a few steps away from the actual gardens, which proved to be a popular spot on the weekend.
The Gardens are named after the Lodhi Dynasty, who ruled parts of northern India from the mid 15th century to the early 16th century, before the rise of the Mughal Empire. The gardens contain various tombs and mosques, and it’s a very tranquil setting in what can otherwise be a very chaotic city.
Like most structures in Old Delhi, Jama Masjid is made of red sandstone and white marble, and it also happens to be one of the largest mosques in all of India.
So we're at the train station here in Delhi (दिल्ली ਿਦੱਲੀ) and that means we are wrapping up the trip here. What an adventure. So yeah that is it for our time in Delhi. That was an assault on the senses. Oh yes. Delhi is a very chaotic but yet exciting city and there is a lot to do but it is the kind of place where once you've seen a few attractions and you're ready to move on yeah. Yeah, it is time to move on. And we are moving on. Where are we off to next? We're off to Jaisalmer in Rajasthan. So this is somewhere I've been before. I'm so excited to be going there. So stay tuned for those adventures. We've got a lot more destinations in India to come. Bye!

If you're looking for things to do in Delhi India, you'll want to watch this video all the way through. From the best food places to the top sights to check out, I cover my favorite things to do in Delhi India on a budget.
1. Humayun's Tomb – An incredible tomb built by a grieving wife, complete with English-style gardens and even an elaborate tomb for the Emperor's favorite barber. This tomb was the main architectural influence for the Taj Mahal.
2. Eat Mughlai Food – Eating traditional Indian medieval food is must when you're in Delhi! I recommend trying out a popular hangout called Al-Jawahar's restaurant for a true local experience.
3. Ride in a samosa – Riding around in a tuk tuk (an automatic rickshaw) is a great way to see the city from a bumpy perspective. Expect to pay slightly higher prices for the experience, but it's completely worth it.
4. Hauz Khas Complex - Located inside Hauz Khas Village, this ancient architectural site is preserved for the public to view. From hidden stairways to old tombs, this place has it all including a view of a the beautiful “Royal Tank” lake.
5. Jama Masjid – This is India's largest mosque and is located in the middle of Old Delhi. Climb the minaret for a nominal fee to see breathtaking views of Delhi.
6. Ride a bicycle rickshaw- Undoubtedly, a very fun experience and a quick and easy way to get around town. The bicycle rides are bumpy and fast, but always pleasurable.
7. The Royal Tank & Deer Park – A beautiful park located in Hauz Khas Village. Take a stroll on one of the many walking paths and admire the wild monkeys swinging from tree branches.
8. Chandni Chowk- Absolutely, a must-visit place for the insanity of it all! Thousands of vendors hawking clothing, jewelry, and snacks line up along the streets for one of Delhi's most amazing outdoor bazaars.
9. Red Fort – This Unesco World Heritage Site offers a stunning sight. Visit the museums on the grounds and take a tour of this ancient fortress dating back all the way to 1648!
10. Qutub Minar – The world's largest brick minaret stands here in Delhi. Wonderfully preserved and kept in pristine condition, this minaret is a jaw-dropping sight to behold. Make sure to visit the other ruins on the same grounds including the mosque and an unfinished minaret. Definitely one of the top things to do in Delhi India!
11. Lodi Gardens – Located in the quiet part of town, the Lodi Gardens is Delhi's great big escape. Whether you're coming here to take a job or have a Sunday picnic, it's always a terrific place to experience some nature and get away from the traffic.
12. Shopping at Hauz Khas Village – I love Hauz Khas Village, and I can't help but share my enthusiasm for this great little area. From surrounding parks and tombs to hipster bars and adorable tea rooms, Hauz Khas Village is the perfect place to experience nightlife in Delhi!
13. Street Food – Of course, any trip to Delhi would not be complete without tasting some delicious street food.
14. Mehrauli Archaeological Park – One of the most highly underrated tourist attractions in all of Delhi! This expansive park houses dozens of incredible archeological sights from ancient step-wells to forts dating back a thousand years ago.
15. Experience a dhaba – A dhaba is a whole in the wall eatery usually situated near a busy highway.
