Oregon State men's basketball season. The Beavers reached their first
NCAA Tournament since
1990 in their second season under head coach
Wayne Tinkle, finishing 19-13 (9-9
Pac-12) after a 75-67 first round loss to
Virginia Commonwealth.
Take a look at 20 numbers that defined the
OSU season. 26: The 26 seasons in between Oregon State's NCAA Tournament appearances was the longest drought in program history. Plus-3.61: Oregon State had the best turnover margin in the Pac-12 during conference play.
1982: The last season when an OSU player,
Lester Connor, led the team in points, rebounds, assists and steals.
Gary Payton II did so this season, finishing with 16.0 points, 7.8 rebounds,
5.0 assists and 2.5 steals per game. 67.1: The Beavers' free throw percentage ranked 11 th in the Pac-12 and was
2.2 percentage points lower than last season. Minus-4.4: OSU improved its conference rebounding margin from last year, when it ranked last at minus-6.1. But the Beavers still only ranked 10 th , ahead of
Washington State and
Washington. 13-0: Oregon State's record when it out-rebounded its opponent. Conversely, the Beavers were out-rebounded in all 13 of their losses. Minus-1.6: The Beavers' had a negative scoring margin in conference play, but one that improved by 2.8 points per game compared to the previous season (minus-4.4). 47.8: The percentage of Oregon State scoring that came from its freshman class:

Daniel Gomis and Cheikh N'diaye. 9-9: Oregon State went
.500 in conference play for the first time since
1993. 8-52: The Beavers' essential 86-82 win at
UCLA on March 5 was only the eighth time in 60 tries when they beat the Bruins in
Los Angeles. 38: The record for consecutive games with a steal that Gary Payton II set this year, breaking the previous record (37) set by his father. 32.9: Gary Payton II's assist percentage, an estimate of the percentage of teammate field goals a player assisted while he was on the floor, was the highest in the Pac-12 according to
Sports Reference . 7: OSU opponents shot more than 50 percent from the field seven times, compared to twice the previous year. The Beavers were
3-4 in those games. 20: The number of games in which Oregon State scored 70 or more points, up from seven the previous year. The Beavers were 15-5 in those games. 37.1: Oregon State jumped from last in the Pac-12 to fourth in three-point shooting percentage, hitting 37.
1 percent compared to 32.3 during the 2014-15 season. 2:
Gill Coliseum sold out twice this season for games against
Oregon on Jan. 3 and Washington State on Feb. 28 (
Senior Day). Oregon State had not sold out a men's basketball game since
2012. 4: Overall attendance dipped during conference play. The Beavers had four mid-week 8 p.m. tipoffs. 2-3: The Beavers played its final five games without Tres Tinkle, their second leading scorer and rebounder, and went 2-3. 21:
Returning starting forward Daniel Gomis missed 21 games with multiple injuries, a broken left hand and shin stress fracture. --
