It must be frustrating for film composers sometimes. They spend months or sometimes years crafting an exquisite score for a film, it gets recorded and that's it. They can hear it any time the film is viewed, or perhaps there might be an accompanying CD release they can listen to, but generally you'd imagine that once the composer has finished his work on a film, he will move onto something new, perhaps borrowing elements of an existing score for a new one, but never really getting the chance to play the score in its entirety ever again.
The score for the Lord Of The Rings trilogy is, much like the rest of the film, a little different. For starters it is really three film scores in one. It is a multi-award winning score as well, claiming two Academy Awards for the composer, Canadian Howard Shore. It is also, thanks to Shore's commitment to this project, a score that is going to live on for some time to come.
It has been turned into a two hour symphony, played by a full orchestra and choir with iconic Alan Lee illustrations projected on a screen for the audience to enjoy. The performance contained in this 50 minute abridged version was recorded at Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier, Place des Arts in Montreal Canada in February 2004.
The appreciative and large audience is treated to a full six movements with the orchestra, chorus, and soloists joined by conductor Howard Shore performing elements of the film score. Instantly recognisable movements from the Shire, The Black Riders, The Mines of Moria, the beautiful Rohan theme, and many others instantly bring an image from the film into your mind, such is the power of the score. For those that may need a little reminder of where certain movements lie, the Alan Lee illustrations projected onto a large screen at the back of the stage will help immensely.
Scattered between the various movements is footage of Howard Shore at work recording the original score for the film with the London Philharmonic Orchestra and also speaking to camera, explaining his thought processes in creating the score.

Howard Leslie Shore (born October 18, 1946) is a Canadian composer who is notable for his film scores. He has composed the scores for over 80 films, most notably the scores for The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit film trilogies. He won three Academy Awards for his work on the first trilogy, with one being for the original song "Into the West", an award he shared with Eurythmics lead vocalist Annie Lennox. He is also a consistent collaborator with director David Cronenberg, having scored all but one of his films since 1979.
Shore has also composed a few concert works including one opera, The Fly, based on the plot (though not his score) of Cronenberg's 1986 film premiered at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris on July 2, 2008, a short piece Fanfare for the Wanamaker Organ and the Philadelphia Orchestra, and a short overture for the Swiss 21st Century Symphony Orchestra. Shore also scored for The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, the third film of the five-film series.

Lord
Lord is an appellation for a person or deity who has authority, control, or power over others acting like a master, a chief, or a ruler. The appellation can also denote certain persons who hold a title of the peerage in the United Kingdom, or are entitled to courtesy titles. The collective "Lords" can refer to a group or body of peers.
Etymology
According to the Oxford Dictionary of English, the etymology of the word can be traced back to the Old English word hlāford which originated from hlāfweard meaning "loaf-ward" or "bread keeper", reflecting the Germanic tribal custom of a chieftain providing food for his followers. The appellation "lord" is primarily applied to men, while for women the appellation "lady" is used. However, this is no longer universal: the Lord of Mann, a title currently held by the Queen of the United Kingdom, and female Lord Mayors are examples of women who are styled Lord.
Historical usage
Feudalism
Under the feudal system, "lord" had a wide, loose and varied meaning. An overlord was a person from whom a landholding or a manor was held by a mesne lord or vassal under various forms of feudal land tenure. The modern term "landlord" is a vestigial survival of this function. A liege lord was a person to whom a vassal owed sworn allegiance. Neither of these terms were titular dignities, but rather factual appellations, which described the relationship between two or more persons within the highly stratified feudal social system. For example, a man might be Lord of the Manor to his own tenants but also a vassal of his own overlord, who in turn was a vassal of the King. Where a knight was a lord of the manor, he was referred to in contemporary documents as "John (Surname), knight, lord of (manor name)". A feudal baron was a true titular dignity, with the right to attend Parliament, but a feudal baron, Lord of the Manor of many manors, was a vassal of the King.

The Rings
The Rings is a 1985 Iranian horror mystery film written by director Mohsen Makhmalbaf and directed by Mohammad Reza Honarmand. It tells the story of a reporter investigating the sudden, inexplicable deaths of a growing number of people who had received phone calls informing them of exactly how long they had to live. The word Zangha is Persian for "The Rings" (as in telephone rings).
Plot
The citizens of an unnamed city are being terrorized by an extraordinary killer. The victims pick up a ringing phone and are told by a mysterious voice how long they have to live. Invariably, they all die in mysterious ways at the exact specified moment.
A reporter begins to investigate the phenomenon, but the more he investigates the deaths the more mysterious they seem. As he delves into more cases, he becomes personally involved and obsessed. Before long, he finds his family and finally himself targets of the elusive killer. The film ends with the reporter's death. The nature of who or what (if anything) caused the deaths is not resolved in the end, and the audience is left to decide on the film's narrative.

The Lord of the Rings
The Lord of the Rings is an epic high-fantasy novel written by English author J. R. R. Tolkien. The story began as a sequel to Tolkien's 1937 fantasy novel The Hobbit, but eventually developed into a much larger work. Written in stages between 1937 and 1949, The Lord of the Rings is the best-selling novel ever written, with over 150 million copies sold.
The title of the novel refers to the story's main antagonist, the Dark Lord Sauron, who had in an earlier age created the One Ring to rule the other Rings of Power as the ultimate weapon in his campaign to conquer and rule all of Middle-earth. From quiet beginnings in the Shire, a hobbit land not unlike the English countryside, the story ranges across Middle-earth, following the course of the War of the Ring through the eyes of its characters, the hobbits Frodo Baggins, Samwise "Sam" Gamgee, Meriadoc "Merry" Brandybuck and Peregrin "Pippin" Took, but also the hobbits' chief allies and travelling companions: the Men Aragorn son of Arathorn, a Ranger of the North, and Boromir, a Captain of Gondor; Gimli son of Glóin, a Dwarf warrior; Legolas Greenleaf, an Elven prince; and Gandalf, a Wizard.

It must be frustrating for film composers sometimes. They spend months or sometimes years crafting an exquisite score for a film, it gets recorded and that's it. They can hear it any time the film is viewed, or perhaps there might be an accompanying CD release they can listen to, but generally you'd imagine that once the composer has finished his work on a film, he will move onto something new, perhaps borrowing elements of an existing score for a new one, but never really getting the chance to play the score in its entirety ever again.
The score for the Lord Of The Rings trilogy is, much like the rest of the film, a little different. For starters it is really three film scores in one. It is a multi-award winning score as well, claiming two Academy Awards for the composer, Canadian Howard Shore. It is also, thanks to Shore's commitment to this project, a score that is going to live on for some time to come.
It has been turned into a two hour symphony, played by a full orchestra and choir with iconic Alan Lee illustrations projected on a screen for the audience to enjoy. The performance contained in this 50 minute abridged version was recorded at Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier, Place des Arts in Montreal Canada in February 2004.
The appreciative and large audience is treated to a full six movements with the orchestra, chorus, and soloists joined by conductor Howard Shore performing elements of the film score. Instantly recognisable movements from the Shire, The Black Riders, The Mines of Moria, the beautiful Rohan theme, and many others instantly bring an image from the film into your mind, such is the power of the score. For those that may need a little reminder of where certain movements lie, the Alan Lee illustrations projected onto a large screen at the back of the stage will help immensely.
Scattered between the various movements is footage of Howard Shore at work recording the original score for the film with the London Philharmonic Orchestra and also speaking to camera, explaining his thought processes in creating the score.

Other recent works include Fanfare for the Wanamaker Organ in Philadelphia and the piano concerto Ruin and Memory for Lang Lang, premiered in Beijing, China in 2010. He is currently working on his second opera and looks forward to a return to Middle-earth with J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit.
Awards and honours include the Career Achievement for Music Composition Award from the National Board of Review of Motion Pictures, New York Chapter's Recording Academy Honors, ASCAP's Henry Mancini Award, the Frederick Loewe Award, and the Max Steiner Award from the city of Vienna. He holds honorary doctorates from Berklee College of Music and York University and he is an Officier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres de la France.

His original scores to Dead Ringers and Eastern Promises were each honoured with a Genie Award. Other recent works include Fanfare for the Wanamaker Organ in Philadelphia and the piano concerto Ruin and Memory for Lang Lang, premiered in Beijing, China in 2010. He is currently working on his second opera and looks forward to a return to Middle-earth with J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit.
Awards and honours include the Career Achievement for Music Composition Award from the National Board of Review of Motion Pictures, New York Chapter's Recording Academy Honors, ASCAP's Henry Mancini Award, the Frederick Loewe Award, and the Max Steiner Award from the city of Vienna. He holds honorary doctorates from Berklee College of Music and York University and he is an Officier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres de la France.

It must be frustrating for film composers sometimes. They spend months or sometimes years crafting an exquisite score for a film, it gets recorded and that's it. They can hear it any time the film is viewed, or perhaps there might be an accompanying CD release they can listen to, but generally you'd imagine that once the composer has finished his work on a film, he will move onto something new, perhaps borrowing elements of an existing score for a new one, but never really getting the chance to play the score in its entirety ever again.
The score for the Lord Of The Rings trilogy is, much like the rest of the film, a little different. For starters it is really three film scores in one. It is a multi-award winning score as well, claiming two Academy Awards for the composer, Canadian Howard Shore. It is also, thanks to Shore's commitment to this project, a score that is going to live on for some time to come.
It has been turned into a two hour symphony, played by a full orchestra and choir with iconic Alan Lee illustrations projected on a screen for the audience to enjoy. The performance contained in this 50 minute abridged version was recorded at Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier, Place des Arts in Montreal Canada in February 2004.
The appreciative and large audience is treated to a full six movements with the orchestra, chorus, and soloists joined by conductor Howard Shore performing elements of the film score. Instantly recognisable movements from the Shire, The Black Riders, The Mines of Moria, the beautiful Rohan theme, and many others instantly bring an image from the film into your mind, such is the power of the score. For those that may need a little reminder of where certain movements lie, the Alan Lee illustrations projected onto a large screen at the back of the stage will help immensely.
Scattered between the various movements is footage of Howard Shore at work recording the original score for the film with the London Philharmonic Orchestra and also speaking to camera, explaining his thought processes in creating the score.

It must be frustrating for film composers sometimes. They spend months or sometimes years crafting an exquisite score for a film, it gets recorded and that's it. They can hear it any time the film is viewed, or perhaps there might be an accompanying CD release they can listen to, but generally you'd imagine that once the composer has finished his work on a film, he will move onto something new, perhaps borrowing elements of an existing score for a new one, but never really getting the chance to play the score in its entirety ever again.
The score for the Lord Of The Rings trilogy is, much like the rest of the film, a little different. For starters it is really three film scores in one. It is a multi-award winning score as well, claiming two Academy Awards for the composer, Canadian Howard Shore. It is also, thanks to Shore's commitment to this project, a score that is going to live on for some time to come.
It has been turned into a two hour symphony, played by a full orchestra and choir with iconic Alan Lee illustrations projected on a screen for the audience to enjoy. The performance contained in this 50 minute abridged version was recorded at Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier, Place des Arts in Montreal Canada in February 2004.
The appreciative and large audience is treated to a full six movements with the orchestra, chorus, and soloists joined by conductor Howard Shore performing elements of the film score. Instantly recognisable movements from the Shire, The Black Riders, The Mines of Moria, the beautiful Rohan theme, and many others instantly bring an image from the film into your mind, such is the power of the score. For those that may need a little reminder of where certain movements lie, the Alan Lee illustrations projected onto a large screen at the back of the stage will help immensely.
Scattered between the various movements is footage of Howard Shore at work recording the original score for the film with the London Philharmonic Orchestra and also speaking to camera, explaining his thought processes in creating the score.
