Sligo (Irish: Sligeach, meaning "shelly place" — English pronunciation: /ˈslaɪɡoʊ/ SLY-goh, Irish pronunciation: [ˈɕlʲɪɟəx]) is the county town and the most populous urban area in County Sligo, Ireland. With a population of 19,452 in 2011, it is the largest town by population in Northwestern Ireland and the second-largest in the province of Connacht. Sligo is a major economic, educational, administrative and cultural centre of Ireland's Border Region , a region of over 500,000 people which comprises the counties of Sligo, Donegal, Leitrim, Cavan, Monaghan and Louth.
Sligo is a major commercial port on the west coast of Ireland and the country's most northerly on the Atlantic Ocean. In recent years, Sligo and its surrounding suburbs have experienced significant economic and population growth; over the last decade, Sligo was the fastest-growing settlement in the Border Region. The town is a also one of Ireland's most important tourist destinations, owing mainly to the renowned natural beauty of the surrounding countryside and its literary and cultural associations, which include significant ties to writer Spike Milligan and Nobel Prize-winning poet W.B. Yeats.

A guide to climbing Ben Bulben, Sligo, Ireland. Keep your eyes open and you'll see how close I came to stumbling off a vertical drop while doing my David Attenborough impersonation. We also encountered a white cross, planted in the slopes of one of the gullies which run down the SW slopes of the mountain. During the Irish civil war, several anti-treaty republicans took refuge on the mountain. They were hunted by Free State forces who shot one of them on the slopes, this cross marks the spot where he died. The rest surrendered, were taken off the mountain and shot and killed by their captors later on. Local Sligo people are still understandably sensitive about the memory of this incident and the loss of life in this location. A grueling hike rewarded with a couple of bottles of Guinness... -

I have been lucky to use the chance exploring Irelands coastline, waterfalls, nature, culture and some cool activities like Stand Up Paddleboarding or swimming with Dolphins. I tried to capture my experience in the best way possible by taking timelapse footage and using wide panorama shots in this travel video montage.

Julianne Mooney visits Sligo: The beauty of Sligo inspired much of the poetry of W.B Yeats and the paintings of his brother Jack. Through their words and paintings, Sligo's verdant rolling hills, sweeping beaches, myriad of lakes and romantic forests have been immortalised.
I've visited the county many times and understand why the Yeats brothers loved it so much. In fact, W.B loved it so much that in one of his final poems he detailed exactly where and how he wished to be buried:
"Under bare Ben Bulben's head
In Drumcliff churchyard Yeats is laid.
An ancestor was rector there
Long years ago, a church stands near,
By the road an ancient cross." (Under Ben Bulben by W.B Yeats)
There is something untouched and romantic about Sligo's countryside. I love that it is compact and one minute you can be on a wind-swept beach surfing the Atlantic waves and within a ten-minute drive be trekking up a mountain.

A guide to climbing Ben Bulben, Sligo, Ireland. Keep your eyes open and you'll see how close I came to stumbling off a vertical drop while doing my David Attenborough impersonation.
We also encountered a white cross, planted in the slopes of one of the gullies which run down the SW slopes of the mountain. During the Irish civil war, several anti-treaty republicans took refuge on the mountain. They were hunted by Free State forces who shot one of them on the slopes, this cross marks the spot where he died. The rest surrendered, were taken off the mountain and shot and killed by their captors later on. Local Sligo people are still understandably sensitive about the memory of this incident and the loss of life in this location.
A grueling hike rewarded with a couple of bottles of Guinness, what else ?

An image captured by the Very Large Telescope in Chile has revealed a cluster of galaxies 65 million light years from Earth — and one of them is in cannibal, swallowing the others. The cannibal galaxy was found in the Fornax cluster, which contains a menagerie of galaxies of a variety of shapes and sizes ...
