Strained yogurt, Greek yogurt, yogurt cheese, labneh (Arabic: لبنة labnah, pronounced LEB-neigh), is yogurt that has been strained to remove its whey, resulting in a thicker consistency than unstrained yogurt, while preserving yogurt's distinctive, sour taste. Like many types of yogurt, strained yogurt is often made from milk that has been enriched by boiling off some of its water content, and/or by adding extra butterfat and powdered milk. In Europe and North America, it is often made with low-fat or fat-free yogurt.
Strained yogurt is sometimes marketed in North America as "Greek yogurt" and in Britain as "Greek-style yoghurt", though strained yogurt is also widely eaten in Levantine, Eastern Mediterranean, Near Eastern, Central Asian and South Asian cuisines, wherein it is often used in cooking (as it is high enough in fat content to avoid curdling at higher temperatures). Such dishes may be cooked or raw, savory, or sweet. Due to the straining process to remove excess whey, even non-fat varieties of strained yogurt are much thicker, richer, and creamier than yogurts that have not been strained.

Yogurt, yoghurt, or yoghourt (/ˈjoʊɡərt/ or /ˈjɒɡət/; from Turkish: yoğurt; other spellings listed below) is a food produced by bacterial fermentation of milk.
The bacteria used to make yogurt are known as "yogurt cultures". Fermentation of lactose by these bacteria produces lactic acid, which acts on milk protein to give yogurt its texture and characteristic tang.Cow's milk is commonly available worldwide, and used to make yogurt. Milk from water buffalo, goats, ewes, mares, camels, and yaks is also used to produce yogurt where available locally. Milk used may be homogenized or not (milk distributed in many parts of the world is homogenized); both types may be used, with rather different results.
Yogurt is produced using a culture of Lactobacillus delbrueckii subsp. bulgaricus and Streptococcus thermophilus bacteria. In addition, other lactobacilli and bifidobacteria are also sometimes added during or after culturing yogurt. Some countries require yogurt to contain a certain amount of colony-forming units of microorganisms.

Watch more How to Eat Healthy Food videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/501147-Greek-Yogurt-vs-Regular-Yogurt-Healthy-Food The difference between Greek yogurt and regular yogurt is really a matter of straining and process. Greek yogurt and regular yogurt start with the same ingredients, which is yogurt. And you can either get it with cow's milk, you can get sheep's milk or you can even get coconut milk yogurts now. And what happens with Greek yogurt is that they strain the yogurt more thoroughly, and that removes more of the liquid, more of the whey and more of the lactose. So what you end up with is more protein in a smaller amount of calories and less sugar in the Greek yogurt. So you can eat the same amount of Greek yogurt as regular yogurt but you're getting more nutrition out of ...
