This production of George Balanchine and Alexandra Danilova’s Coppélia is, quite simply, a delight. Based on a libretto by 19th century French writer, Charles Nuitter, after a story by E T A Hoffmann, the ballet was originally choreographed by Arthur St Léon for the Paris Opéra Ballet in 1870, restaged by Marius Petipa for the Imperial Ballet in St Petersburg in 1884, and revised again by Lev Ivanov and Enrico Cecchetti in 1894....
