Quotes:
Bigas Luna: I'm very keen on symbols, generally speaking. That's what I prefer in the process of film narration. I usually start working on a plot, and when the framework is ready, I begin a true speech of symbols.
Bigas Luna: When I make a film, I don't want the symbolic interpretation of what I am doing, to be too obvious. I do think we have to be generous to the people going to the cinema, but I don't want to produce only pure entertainment either. But I don't want to be cryptic either. I think that to achieve a perfect highly symbolical story, the symbolical load has to be underneath. As something that is present, but that someone that has seen the film can say he has not noticed. That would be wonderful.
Bigas Luna: Symbols help a lot, but can also kill a story. When one comes up with a new interpretation, it is great. Because what matters is the energy generated by that idea. And also the energy that piece just gave to someone else.
Bigas Luna: According to my theory, the limit, in fiction, is set by pain. In the fictional world, you can and you must do whatever you want. If you feel pain when you do that, it means you reached the limit of your work as a creator.
Bigas Luna: Silence is the original. Words are the copy.
Bigas Luna: I adore animals. They are... I really love them. I've always had dogs. I have five donkeys, chickens... There are only two animals that I can't stand. One is the fly. I have a horrible relationship with flies. I really hate them. It's a true obsession. I depict it as the devil in my films. This horrific insect that I deeply hate...

In this documentary film, Cheech Marin reveals his passion for collecting Chicano art and shares his life's mission to elevate public consciousness of it throughout the nation and the world. It features interviews with many of today's top Chicano/a artists, including Chaz Bojorquez, David Botello, Melesio Casas, Gaspar Enriquez, Margaret Garcia, Rupert Garcia, Carmen Lomas Garza, Raul Guerrero, Roberto Gutierrez, Wayne Alaniz Healy, Adan Hernandez, Ester Hernandez, Leo Limon, Jose Lozano, Gilbert "Magu" Lujan, Cesar Martinez, Frank Romero, Alex Rubio, Marta Sanchez, Eloy Torrez, Jesse Trevino, John Valadez, Patssi Valdez, Vincent Valdez, and George Yepes. Produced to accompany "The Chicano Collection," an archival print project by Richard S. Duardo of Modern Multiples in partnership with Cheech Marin and Melissa Richardson Banks (as well as a subsequent traveling exhibition produced and managed by Melissa Richardson Banks), the film describes the personal journeys and viewpoints of the 26 featured artists and their struggle for acceptance by American art museums. Asco were formed in the early 1970s by four Chicano artists - Harry Gamboa Jr, Gronk, Willie F. Herrón III and Patssi Valdez - who met in high school in East LA, the centre of Los Angeles's Mexican American community. They emerged from the Chicano civil rights movement of the late 60s and early 70s, which fought labour exploitation, the Vietnam draft, police brutality, and other forms of discrimination and deprivation.
Their name means disgust or nausea in Spanish, and their work had a low budget look reflecting their circumstances -- Gronk called it aesthetics of poverty. In the 70s, a Chicano artist was expected to paint murals -- the Chicano Movement borrowed from the Mexican political mural tradition of the early 20th century. While sharing the Movement's opposition to racial discrimination, Asco were also determined to free themselves from the straightjacket of muralism. They sometimes did this by parodying it. Walking Mural and Instant Mural were outrageous street performances rather than paintings on walls.
Asco's performances in and around East LA resembled scenes from movies that were never made -- or fashion shoots, or promotional images of rock bands. They called some of these No Movies. Made in the shadow of Hollywood, yet in a community ghettoised from the wider metropolis, Harry Gamboa Jr's photographs of Asco's performances anticipate the staged photography of Cindy Sherman, Jeff Walls and other major figures in postmodern art working with photography. The imagery they used was linked to fantasy and fiction, Asco retained a dangerous political edge. Their actions were made without notice or permission in a public sphere fraught with political tension and police curfews. Some were made at sites where a violent incident had taken place the previous day -- the site of a gang conflict or the fatal shooting of demonstrators by the Los Angeles Police Department.

DoLL-e GirL was born and raised in the city of Los Angeles, California. Doll-e Girl has always been a big fan of Low-riders and Low-riding. "If it was not for that, I would have gotten into a lot of trouble. But what really kept me off the streets was my love for music" Doll-e Girl explains.
Doll-e Girl dropped her first verse for some old friends of hers back in 2002. But by early 2003, she was introduced to Darrel Lynn C.E.O. of Lynn Drum Productions, which he helped put together Doll-e's first demo entitled "211 on your Love". The streets loved the demo. The demo was then placed in the hands of Johnny U from Thick Skin Entertainment, which in 2005 he released her first album "To know me is to Love Me". The album was very successful worldwide.
In 2006, Doll-e released her first compilation album entitled "Street Shot Callers" which was distributed by XXX Records. Then in 2007, Doll-e Girl released her third album entitled "I got your Back" thru Diamond Records. The first single off the album "Do it Daddy" Feat. Baby Bash was produced by multi-platinum producer Fingazz, and went on to become a big radio hit. Two years later with no album and no active single's Doll-e Girl still continue to tour the United States, Europe and Asia. Doll-e has performed with artist such as; Too Short, E40, T-pain, Cypress Hill, Lil Rob, Mc Magic, Paul Wall, and Omarion.
In 2007, Doll-e Girl started her acting career, in which, been in such movies and TV shows such as, 187, My Name Is Earl, Lie To Me, and recently Lady Gaga's music video "Telephone" feat. Beyoncé.
Doll-e Girl's latest album entitled "My Diaries of Love" was released in the spring of 2010. In early 2010 Doll-e Girl inked a sub-label deal with MIH Entertainment Group. "Doll-e Girl is really talented that's why I signed her and her label, I have been an A&R; for many years, Doll-e and her label Set-Up Shop Records that's the next big thing." -- Says Michael Conner -- Vice President of MIH Entertainment Group. Doll-e Girl's newest album entitled "Steel Banging Mafiosa Stories" hits stores October 26th, 2010. But that does not slow her down Doll-e Girl is already back in the studio working on another album entitled "Unleashed" and compilation album entitled "Street Shot Callers 2″. "I continue to still make music because of my fans they want a lot more music, and because I want to tell the story of my life and all the things that I have been through" Doll-e Girl explains.

Esteban Jordan discusses his career as a Chicano musician, his experiences in the recording industry and the origins of his unique sound. Jordan talks about the creative constraints he has experienced in the recording industry, where producers have been unwilling to take chances on innovative sounds and instead have pressured him to keep playing polkas. He then describes how he started playing the guitar when he was seven and working in the fields with his family. He later picked up the accordion and dropped out of school at age ten to form his own band. His early experiences with migrant life has inspired his music and his commitment to the Chicano community and to farm workers. He then discusses his participation in the farm workers' march from San Juan, Texas to Washington D.C. Jordan believes his music is not political. He explains that he sings about the realities facing the community and what is happening so as to inform people and encourage them to organize themselves. Jordan describes his music as eclectic: he uses different techniques and styles to re-interpret traditional music. He then talks a little bit about his band and how it has changed over the years. Jordan's eldest son is also a musician and he plays with his father. Host Linda Fregoso interviews him briefly about his father's music and plans for the future. Jordan concludes that his music tries to blend American and Chicano sounds
