MPV Launches in 2016
In
India MPVs aren’t as popular as their closely linked cousins
SUVs are. But as vehicles they are both efficient and practical. When it comes to being a perfect family car nothing suits better as an MPV and that’s why they still have some sort an appeal still left in the
Indian market.
In 2016 many carmakers have lined up MPVs for launch in
India. Let’s have a look at them.
1. New
Toyota Innova
The
Innova, the older version that is, was probably the most loved MPV in India and keeping that in mind Toyota is going to bring newer version of it in the country this year.
The new car will be powered by a 2.4-liter diesel churning out 149bhp and 359Nm. This is much better than what the older 2.5-liter offered. The car will come with many new features both on the inside and outside.
2.
Chevrolet Spin
The
Chevrolet already has one MPV for the Indian market - the
Enjoy. But it has not done very well so far. Now to scale it up Chevrolet is bringing in the
Spin.
The Spin is expected to come in both petrol and diesel versions to match the offerings by
Renault and
Honda with their
Lodgy and Mobilio MPVs. The Spin will be showcased at the upcoming Indian
Auto Expo.
3.
Mahindra Quanto Facelift
Production of the Quanto has been stopped, instead Mahindra is working on a facelifted version of the car which will be launched this year. The new Quanto will probably carry the same engine as the recently launched
TUV 300. Many changes are expected on both the inside and outside of the car.
4.
BMW 2 Series Active Tourer
This front-wheel drive
BMW is the company’s only serious attempt at developing a seven-seater MPV. In India, the biggest rival for this car would be
Mercedes Benz B Class. The car promises a lot to its buyers in terms luxury and style in combination with providing all the standard efficiency that an MPV must come with.
5.
Tata Hexa
Seems the utter failure of the
Aria hasn’t deterred Tata from giving it another go as far as taking on the Toyota Innova is concerned and Hexa would Tata’s new weapon in that battle for MPV supremacy. The Hexa is slated to be powered by a 2.
2-liter 4-cylinder VARICOR engine producing a peak power of 154bhp. The engine will be mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox.
