The training included sessions on determining disaster recovery awards, an overview of CDBG disaster recovery, an introduction to the Disaster Recovery Grant Reporting (DRGR) system, assessing disaster recovery needs, action plan development, keys to effective grant administration, and environmental compliance. The training also included roundtable discussions so that grantees may learn from each other and panel presentations from grantees and HUD staff.

Each year the Village of Oak Park receives an allocation of Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG) funds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). CDBG funds are intended to support a wide variety of community and economic development activities directed toward neighborhood revitalization, economic development and improved community facilities and services. The purpose of the federally funded, but locally administered CDBG program is to develop and provide decent housing and a suitable living environment, and expand economic opportunities for persons of low and moderate income.

The Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program provides a number of tools that local municipalities can use to generate jobs, support the growth of business districts and promote overall sustainability of our neighborhoods and economic vitality. CDBG funds provide support to many non-profit public service programs, public facility improvements, housing rehabilitation activities, and economic development activities. Additionally, through the HUD Section 108 loan program, the City has been able to transform a small portion of CDBG funds into the Grow Bridgeport Funds for large, economic revitalization and small business development projects to reinvigorate downtown investment.
The HOME Partnership Program is the largest Federal block grant to State and local governments designed exclusively to create affordable housing for low-income households. The City of Bridgeport has created over 600 units of affordable housing as a result of this funding. Primary activities carried out by the City include: a Down Payment Assistance Program for first time homebuyers, rehabilitation of homes for both rental housing and homeownership opportunities, as well as the construction of new rental housing development.

The Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program provides a number of tools that local municipalities can use to generate jobs, support the growth of business districts and promote overall sustainability of our neighborhoods and economic vitality. CDBG funds provide support to many non-profit public service programs, public facility improvements, housing rehabilitation activities, and economic development activities. Additionally, through the HUD Section 108 loan program, the City has been able to transform a small portion of CDBG funds into the Grow Bridgeport Funds for large, economic revitalization and small business development projects to reinvigorate downtown investment.
The HOME Partnership Program is the largest Federal block grant to State and local governments designed exclusively to create affordable housing for low-income households. The City of Bridgeport has created over 600 units of affordable housing as a result of this funding. Primary activities carried out by the City include: a Down Payment Assistance Program for first time homebuyers, rehabilitation of homes for both rental housing and homeownership opportunities, as well as the construction of new rental housing development.

HUD's Office of Block Grant Assistance, Disaster Recovery and Special Issues (DRSI) Division sponsored the CDBG Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) training in Newark, NJ March 18-20, 2013. The training included sessions on determining disaster recovery awards, an overview of CDBG disaster recovery, an introduction to the Disaster Recovery Grant Reporting (DRGR) system, assessing disaster recovery needs, action plan development, keys to effective grant administration, and environmental compliance. The training also included roundtable discussions so that grantees may learn from each other and panel presentations from grantees and HUD staff.

The Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program provides a number of tools that local municipalities can use to generate jobs, support the growth of business districts and promote overall sustainability of our neighborhoods and economic vitality. CDBG funds provide support to many non-profit public service programs, public facility improvements, housing rehabilitation activities, and economic development activities. Additionally, through the HUD Section 108 loan program, the City has been able to transform a small portion of CDBG funds into the Grow Bridgeport Funds for large, economic revitalization and small business development projects to reinvigorate downtown investment.
The HOME Partnership Program is the largest Federal block grant to State and local governments designed exclusively to create affordable housing for low-income households. The City of Bridgeport has created over 600 units of affordable housing as a result of this funding. Primary activities carried out by the City include: a Down Payment Assistance Program for first time homebuyers, rehabilitation of homes for both rental housing and homeownership opportunities, as well as the construction of new rental housing development.
