MBA C-1 leads the MBTA Work Extra through Wilmington, Massachusetts, on a beautiful Thursday afternoon in June. Filling out the consist of the train are eleven EMD F40PH "Screamer" locomotives belonging to the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority: MBTX 1012, MBTX 1001, MBTX 1007, MBTX 1005, MBTX 1015, MBTX 1008, MBTX 1011, MBTX 1002, MBTX 1006, MBTX 1017, and MBTX 1003. Providing power from the rear of the train are MBTX 1120 (EMD GP40MC), MBTX 1070 (EMD F40PH-2C), and MBTX 3247 (EMD GP40-3). The F40PH's are bound for the Billerica Shop, where they'll be stored indefinitely.
I got here at 9:00 AM to wait for this thing. At 11:00 AM I left the station in order to cash a check and grab an iced coffee, not realizing that it was to follow Keolis 317 out of the Boston Engine Terminal. I raced back to the platform as soon as I learned of this, worried that I'd missed the train that I'd invested my whole morning into catching. Needless to say, I was psyched when I saw C-1's headlight appear in the distance. As much of a bummer is it is to know that this is likely the last I'll see of these old units, I'm glad to have gotten an opportunity to film them all one last time.

In this Webeo, I propose/visualize an extension of the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority's Blue Line subway, which currently extends from Wonderland to Bowdoin. This......WAS.....AWESOME. (even if both trains were going slow, it was genuinely an amazing sight!!!)
For those who have caught races, you understand exactly why this title deserves capitalization!!! Enjoy the nice Downeaster and MBTA engineers, both of whom kindly waved and put on quite the performance for this race!!!
GP40MC #1116 slowly crawls around the curve, and I noticed something odd about the coaches, like there was something behind it. My eyes widened as I realized what was happening, "Conor, get your camera ready RIGHT NOW!!! Get ready it's a race!!!!" I yelled to Conor (FirstDueFoamer) I quickly scampered over to the other side of the tracks before the gates went down, and sure enough, P42 #158 and it's train were sneaking up behind the Keolis train!! Both the MBTA and Downeaster engineers waved and gave extra horn blasts! Enjoy! :) -Mike

The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority, often referred to as the MBTA or simply The T, is the public operator of most bus, subway, commuter rail, and ferry systems in the greater Boston, Massachusetts area. Officially a "body politic and corporate, and a political subdivision" of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, it was formed in 1964. Its immediate predecessor, the Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA), was immortalized by The Kingston Trio in the popular folk-protest lament "M.T.A." Locals call it simply "The T", after its logo, the letter T in a circle, adopted in the 1960s and inspired by the Stockholm Metro. In 2008, the system averaged 1.3 million passenger trips each weekday, of which the subway averaged 598,200, making it the fourth busiest subway system in the United States. The Green Line and Ashmont–Mattapan High Speed Line of the T comprise the busiest light-rail system in the U.S, with a weekday ridership of 255,100.
The MBTA also operates an independent law enforcement agency, the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority Police. In 2006, 31.60% of workers in the city proper commuted by public transport.

These are a couple of rare catches I've seen in Needham, MA over the past couple of weeks. MBA C-1 leads the MBTA Work Extra through Wilmington, Massachusetts, on a beautiful Thursday afternoon in June. Filling out the consist of the train are eleven EMD F40PH "Screamer" locomotives belonging to the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority: MBTX 1012, MBTX 1001, MBTX 1007, MBTX 1005, MBTX 1015, MBTX 1008, MBTX 1011, MBTX 1002, MBTX 1006, MBTX 1017, and MBTX 1003. Providing power from the rear of the train are MBTX 1120 (EMD GP40MC), MBTX 1070 (EMD F40PH-2C), and MBTX 3247 (EMD GP40-3). The F40PH's are bound for the Billerica Shop, where they'll be stored indefinitely.
I got here at 9:00 AM to wait for this thing. At 11:00 AM I left the station in order to cash a check and grab an iced coffee, not realizing that it was to follow Keolis 317 out of the Boston Engine Terminal. I raced back to the platform as soon as I learned of this, worried that I'd missed the train that I'd invested my whole morning into catching. Needless to say, I was psyched when I saw C-1's headlight appear in the distance. As much of a bummer is it is to know that this is likely the last I'll see of these old units, I'm glad to have gotten an opportunity to film them all one last time.

For those who have caught races, you understand exactly why this title deserves capitalization!!! Enjoy the nice Downeaster and MBTA engineers, both of whom kindly waved and put on quite the performance for this race!!!
GP40MC #1116 slowly crawls around the curve, and I noticed something odd about the coaches, like there was something behind it. My eyes widened as I realized what was happening, "Conor, get your camera ready RIGHT NOW!!! Get ready it's a race!!!!" I yelled to Conor (FirstDueFoamer) I quickly scampered over to the other side of the tracks before the gates went down, and sure enough, P42 #158 and it's train were sneaking up behind the Keolis train!! Both the MBTA and Downeaster engineers waved and gave extra horn blasts! Enjoy! :) -Mike

These are a couple of rare catches I've seen in Needham, MA over the past couple of weeks. The first is a disabled train 623 being assisted by train 625, and the second is a Kawasaki rebuild set that had four Kawasaki rebuilds, and one Rotem.
