1956 Morris Minor, last model year for splitscreens, 803cc Austin designed A series engine and the small rear window.
pre-1952 cars had the ancient pre-war 918cc sidevalve (flathead) engine.
1957 cars had revised bodywork, interior and larger (948cc), improved BMC A series engine.
Compare with cheap American cars of the period. This was an inexpensive car but despite the sparse interior and the puny engine, it is a very nice ride and would definitely have been a treasured possession in the 50's. Not many people had cars in 1950s Britain.
Definitely a tough old car, made at a time when each nation made cars in their own individual way and every car sounded different.
Car is all original, 88,000 miles on original engine and gearbox, maximum speed just over 60 MPH, fuel consumption from 40 to 50+ MPG (Imperial gallons).
Owned from new until 2009 by its original purchaser, the car spent all its life in Oxfordshire (hence the 'BW' registration mark). It is now being preserved and used daily in Lancashire.

The production version of the Mini was demonstrated to the press in April 1959, and by August several thousand cars had been produced ready for the first sales.[24] The Mini was officially announced to the public on 26 August 1959. Some 2,000 cars had already been sent abroad and would be displayed that day in nearly 100 countries.[25]
The first example, a Morris Mini-Minor with the registration 621 AOK, is on display at the Heritage Motor Centre in Warwickshire.[26] Another early example from 1959 is now on display at the National Motor Museum in Hampshire.[27]
The Mini was marketed under BMC's two main brand names, Austin and Morris until 1969, when it became a marque in its own right.[17] The Morris version was known to all as "the Mini" or Mini-Minor. The word minor is Latin for "lesser"; so an abbreviation of the Latin word for "least" – minimus – was used for the new even smaller car. One name proposed for the Austin version was Austin Newmarket. Austin dealers sold their almost identical car as an Austin Seven (sometimes written as SE7EN in early publicity material – the '7' the letter V rotated left so it approximated the number 7), which recalled the popular small Austin 7 of the 1920s and 1930s. "Morris Mini-Minor" seems to have been a play on words; the Morris Minor was a larger, well known and successful car that continued in production.

Although we are not actually trading as a business yet, we have opened our page on Facebook to get the wheels in motion (so's to speak) and get your support from the very beginning of our exciting and incredible journey.
To begin with, we have begun to restore an old 1972 Austin Minor Ice cream van to her former glory with the aim to have her kitted out fully to offer you, the public, a great choice of coffee's and drinks and gluten free food and snacks at various shows, events and festivals throughout the Midlands.
"But I'm not Gluten-intolerant" we hear you cry!! Never fear, our food is so good that you would never know it was gluten free. Our other aim is to create snacks and foods that are suitable in taste and flavour for everyone, but make the Glute-free bods out there feel part of the crowd and give them a greater choice when out for a day at shows and events.
Being Coelic myself, I personally find this very difficult at the moment, and it's this difficulty in not being able to go to shows, festivals and events and pick up a nice, healthy and tasty snack (unless it's cake) and having to constantly take my own food with me. Our aim is to change this lack of availability but keep it so that the items we serve are suitable for Gluten and non-gluten intolerance. We will even be looking at making a lot of items Lactose free too, as this can also go hand in hand with being Gluten-free.
So, our little van is called Honey (due to her number plate) and she is simply beautiful to us. She needs a lot of loving care and work done but we aim to have her on the road and functioning as a coffee van by the end of May 2014. She might not look 100% pretty by that time, but she will be out on the road by then.

Morris Minor
The Morris Minor is a British car that debuted at the Earls Court Motor Show, London, on 20 September 1948. Designed under the leadership of Alec Issigonis, more than 1.3 million were manufactured between 1948 and 1972 in three series: the MM (1948), the Series II (1952) and finally the 1000 series (1956).
Initially available as a two-door saloon and tourer (convertible), the range was expanded to include a four-door saloon in 1950, a wood-framed estate (the Traveller) from Oct.1953 and panel van and pick-up truck variants from May 1953.
History
Alec Issigonis' concept was to combine the luxury and convenience of a good motor car at a price affordable by the working classes. The Minor was a roomy vehicle with superior cornering and handling characteristics. Internal politics inside BMC, the owner of Morris, may have led to the limited North American sales. The Minor prototype had been known as the Morris Mosquito. Manufactured mainly in Cowley, Oxfordshire, the Minor became Britain's first million seller, and was exported globally. Production continued in Birmingham, England until 1972 (for the commercial variants and estate only).

John Hartford
John Cowan Hartford (December 30, 1937 – June 4, 2001) was an American folk, country and bluegrass composer and musician known for his mastery of the fiddle and banjo, as well as for his witty lyrics, unique vocal style, and extensive knowledge of Mississippi River lore. Hartford performed with a variety of ensembles throughout his career, and is perhaps best known for his solo performances where he would interchange the guitar, banjo, and fiddle from song to song. He also invented his own shuffle tap dance move, and clogged on an amplified piece of plywood while he played and sang.
Ancestry
John Hartford was the great-great-great-grandson of Karl von Rotteck and the great-great-grandson of James Overton Broadhead. His grandfather, Edwin Marvin Hartford, was a first cousin to Tennessee Williams.
Life
Harford (he would change his name to Hartford later in life at the behest of Chet Atkins) was born on December 30, 1937 in New York City to parents Dr. Carl and Mary Harford. He spent his childhood in St. Louis, Missouri. There he was exposed to the influence that would shape much of his career and music—the Mississippi River. From the time he got his first job on the river, at age 16, Hartford was on, around, or singing about the river.

The Mini was marketed under BMC's two main brand names, Austin and Morris until 1969, when it became a marque in its own right.[17] The Morris version was known to all as "the Mini" or Mini-Minor. The word minor is Latin for "lesser"; so an abbreviation of the Latin word for "least" – minimus – was used for the new even smaller car. One name proposed for the Austin version was Austin Newmarket. Austin dealers sold their almost identical car as an Austin Seven (sometimes written as SE7EN in early publicity material – the '7' the letter V rotated left so it approximated the number 7), which recalled the popular small Austin 7 of the 1920s and 1930s. "Morris Mini-Minor" seems to have been a play on words; the Morris Minor was a larger, well known and successful car that continued in production.

Glutopia is a new way of dining for everyone. To begin with, we will be bringing you our mobile coffee and snacks van, then in time we will be opening our café/deli in Derby.
Although we are not actually trading as a business yet, we have opened our page on Facebook to get the wheels in motion (so's to speak) and get your support from the very beginning of our exciting and incredible journey.
To begin with, we have begun to restore an old 1972 Austin Minor Ice cream van to her former glory with the aim to have her kitted out fully to offer you, the public, a great choice of coffee's and drinks and gluten free food and snacks at various shows, events and festivals throughout the Midlands.
"But I'm not Gluten-intolerant" we hear you cry!! Never fear, our food is so good that you would never know it was gluten free. Our other aim is to create snacks and foods that are suitable in taste and flavour for everyone, but make the Glute-free bods out there feel part of the crowd and give them a greater choice when out for a day at shows and events.
Being Coelic myself, I personally find this very difficult at the moment, and it's this difficulty in not being able to go to shows, festivals and events and pick up a nice, healthy and tasty snack (unless it's cake) and having to constantly take my own food with me. Our aim is to change this lack of availability but keep it so that the items we serve are suitable for Gluten and non-gluten intolerance. We will even be looking at making a lot of items Lactose free too, as this can also go hand in hand with being Gluten-free.
So, our little van is called Honey (due to her number plate) and she is simply beautiful to us. She needs a lot of loving care and work done but we aim to have her on the road and functioning as a coffee van by the end of May 2014. She might not look 100% pretty by that time, but she will be out on the road by then.
So, why not like our Facebook page or follow us on Twitter and join Honey's and our journey on the road to restoration, fun and challenges and once she's up and running, why not come and visit us at one of the shows too.

On September 11th 2015 I took the Texas Eagle Amtrak train from LA to Austin. The train passes through the states of California, Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas, taking nearly 33 hours to complete this leg of the journey, before continuing on up to Chicago. This short film comprises a number of clips I took from the train window, mostly in Arizona and Texas. I highly recommended seeing America this way. Though it's not the most comfortable way to travel you'll see things and meet people you rarely would travelling by car or plane. We visited this small tourist town in the hills above Lisbon in April, 2015. It really is a magical place. Almost as if Disney had designed it, but better. It was our first trip to Portugal and we discovered what a wonderful country it is — and a great value, especially compared to the rest of Europe. It has a climate similar to California and our main driver/guide called it the “west coast of Europe.” The California similarity even includes a vibrant surfer scene. We highly recommend Portugal! On September 11th 2015 I took the Texas Eagle Amtrak train from LA to Austin. The train passes through the states of California, Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas, taking nearly 33 hours to complete this leg of the journey, before continuing on up to Chicago.
This short film comprises a number of clips I took from the train window, mostly in Arizona and Texas.
I highly recommended seeing America this way. Though it's not the most comfortable way to travel you'll see things and meet people you rarely would travelling by car or plane.
Music is 'Exit Does Not Exist' by Sun Kil Moon, taken from his album of Modest Mouse covers. A record I was listening to a lot at the time.
Shot on my iPhone 6 using the Hyperlapse app (for stabilisation), edited in Premiere Pro.

We visited this small tourist town in the hills above Lisbon in April, 2015. It really is a magical place. Almost as if Disney had designed it, but better. It was our first trip to Portugal and we discovered what a wonderful country it is — and a great value, especially compared to the rest of Europe. It has a climate similar to California and our main driver/guide called it the “west coast of Europe.” The California similarity even includes a vibrant surfer scene. We highly recommend Portugal!
The music accompaniment in the video was provided by a group from Austin, Texas, called Balmorhea:
“We Will Rebuild with Smooth Stones” from the album, “Balmorhea” (2007)
“Baleen Morning” from the album, “Rivers Arms (Deluxe Edition)” (2008)
For the video techies, I shot in Cinema 4K (4096x2016) using my new Panasonic Lumix GH4 camera. C4K is slightly wider than regular HD (approx 17:9) and I reduced the final output to 2048x1080 to preserve the wider aspect ratio. This reduction process has the advantage of producing very sharp and detailed HD video (assuming sharp focus on capture!) and allows cropping and even zooming in post with no loss in image quality. I changed my shooting technique on this trip: I only used manual focus and usually used manual exposure. For the first time I shot at the standard movie industry frame rate of 24fps with 1/50th sec shutter speed for that "cinematic look" (formerly, I would shoot at the video standard 30fps). I used faster lenses (primarily 12-35mm f2.8 zoom -- equiv to 24-70 on 35mm) and did not use the big 14-140mm f3.5-5.6 "travel zoom" from past trips. At times I also employed a super wide 7-14mm f4, and a 50mm f1.8 Nikon prime lens.

Compare with cheap American cars of the period. This was an inexpensive car but despite the sparse interior and the puny engine, it is a very nice ride and would definitely have been a treasured possession in the 50's. Not many people had cars in 1950s Britain. Definitely a tough old car, made at a time when each nation made cars in their own individual way and every car sounded different. To begin with, we have begun to restore an old 1972 Austin Minor Ice cream van to her former glory with the aim to have her kitted out fully to offer you, the public, a great choice of coffee's and drinks and gluten free food and snacks at various shows, events and festivals throughout the Midlands.
"But I'm not Gluten-intolerant" we hear you cry!! Never fear, our food is so good that you would never know it was gluten free. Our other aim is to create snacks and foods that are suitable in taste and flavour for everyone, but make the Glute-free bods out there feel part of the crowd and give them a greater choice when out for a day at shows and events.
Being Coelic myself, I personally find this very difficult at the moment, and it's this difficulty in not being able to go to shows, festivals and events and pick up a nice, healthy and tasty snack (unless it's cake) and having to constantly take my own food with me. Our aim is to change this lack of availability but keep it so that the items we serve are suitable for Gluten and non-gluten intolerance. We will even be looking at making a lot of items Lactose free too, as this can also go hand in hand with being Gluten-free.
So, our little van is called Honey (due to her number plate) and she is simply beautiful to us. She needs a lot of loving care and work done but we aim to have her on the road and functioning as a coffee van by the end of May 2014. She might not look 100% pretty by that time, but she will be out on the road by then.
