Electric Blue was a huge hit both in the US and in Australia. The album, Man of Colours, went Platinum seven times over and stayed at No 1 on the Australian charts for 11 weeks. It is still the largest selling album by an Australian band ever released in Australia.
Icehouse performed Electric Blue in front of Prince Charles and Princess Diana at the Royal Bicentennial Concert in Sydney, and it was broadcast live in the US on the American Music Awards. In addition to co-writing Electric Blue, John Oates (from Hall and Oates) added backing vocals to the tracks.
For their videos Icehouse always engaged top-tier directors such as Russell Mulcahy, John Jopson, Stephen Hopkins and Mark Joffe, all of whom have gone on to successful careers in film and television. Electric Blue got the band away from their sometimes cumbersome high-concept clips and represented a "return to moderation", concentrating on performance and band personality. It was filmed on a rooftop in Sydney, Australia by John Jopson who directed 4 Icehouse clips in total, as well as their concert film "Icehouse: Live at the Ritz". Based on actual transcripts of court proceedings against pedophile priests, this film is a fly-on-the-wall view of a priest to priest confession - the abuse of a 10-year-old boy in Italy. It was filmed clandestinely in a small church in Tuscany.

John Jopson
John Charles Jopson (born 1954) is a film director, screenwriter, and cinematographer best known for the jazz film “One Night with Blue Note” and his music videos from the 1980s.
Biography
John Jopson began his film career in automobile racing, first in 1975 as a stringer filming Formula One races for UPITN in London. He then worked as cinematographer on the Italian Formula One movie “Speed Fever” (Formula Uno, Febbre della Velocità) in 1978, and directed the short film “Gasoline” featuring Mario Andretti' and Gilles Villeneuve. His racing footage was also used in the 1977 Al Pacino film Bobby Deerfield, and in 1979 Jopson won the Golden Quill Award for his eclectic short film “Mass Transit” based on Kraftwerk's 22 minute tome Autobahn.
During the 1980s, based in New York City, Jopson directed videos, concert films and documentaries for a diverse group of artists including, Icehouse, Willy DeVille, John Waite, Poison, REO Speedwagon, Elton John, and The Angels, and he toured extensively with Hall and Oates as both cinematographer and director. In 1985, working with cinematographer Ernest Dickerson, John directed the critically acclaimed jazz film “One Night with Blue Note”. His feature length film “Nervous Night”, a collection of short films starring The Hooters, won the Billboard Music Award for “Best Longform” in 1986. Jopson was also the cinematographer on the film “Does Humor Belong in Music?” written and directed by Frank Zappa. He lived in Australia in the late 1980s where he directed television series, pop clips, concerts and commercials.

John Mayer
John Clayton Mayer (/ˈmeɪ.ər/; born October 16, 1977) is an American singer-songwriter and producer. He was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut, and raised in nearby Fairfield. He attended Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts, but disenrolled and moved to Atlanta, Georgia, in 1997 with Clay Cook. Together, they formed a short-lived, two-man band called Lo-Fi Masters. After their split, Mayer continued to play local clubs—refining his skills and gaining a following. After his appearance at the 2001 South by Southwest Festival, he was signed to Aware Records, and then Columbia Records, which released his first EP, Inside Wants Out. His following two full-length albums—Room for Squares (2001) and Heavier Things (2003)—did well commercially, achieving multi-platinum status. In 2003, he won the Grammy Award for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance for the single "Your Body Is a Wonderland".
Though Mayer started his career mainly performing acoustic rock, he began moving towards the blues genre that had originally influenced him as a musician. By 2005, he was collaborating with blues artists such as B. B. King, Buddy Guy, and Eric Clapton. Forming the John Mayer Trio, he released a live album in 2005 called Try!, and his third studio album Continuum in 2006. Both albums received wide critical acclaim, and Continuum earned Mayer a 2007 Grammy Award for Best Pop Vocal Album. He also won Best Male Pop Vocal Performance for "Waiting on the World to Change". That album was followed by Battle Studies in 2009, a return to pop, with a number-one grossing tour.

Electric Blue was a huge hit both in the US and in Australia. The album, Man of Colours, went Platinum seven times over and stayed at No 1 on the Australian charts for 11 weeks. It is still the largest selling album by an Australian band ever released in Australia.
Icehouse performed Electric Blue in front of Prince Charles and Princess Diana at the Royal Bicentennial Concert in Sydney, and it was broadcast live in the US on the American Music Awards. In addition to co-writing Electric Blue, John Oates (from Hall and Oates) added backing vocals to the tracks.
For their videos Icehouse always engaged top-tier directors such as Russell Mulcahy, John Jopson, Stephen Hopkins and Mark Joffe, all of whom have gone on to successful careers in film and television. The 3 hour-plus event was shot on 16mm film with multiple cameras. Director Jopson prepared by studying the music from various live recordings, and then, consulting with producer Tammara Wells plus director of photography Martin Pitts and camera operators Ernest Dickerson, Paul Goldsmith and Don Lenser, determined the camera positions. During rehearsals Pitts and long-time associate Lou Tobin designed the lighting for show. The lighting team was joined by the crew from Chorus Line which had just closed on Broadway. The film is known for its intimate close-ups of the musicians, showing their subtle signals to each other and acknowledgment of well-played riffs. The recording was engineered by Mike Moran and David Hewitt with Remote Recording Service's Silver Truck. A four-LP box set One Night with Blue Note Preserved featuring the entire concert was released simultaneously with the film and as separate volumes.
