A police force is a constituted body of persons empowered by the state to enforce the law, protect property, and limit civil disorder. Their powers include the legitimized use of force. The term is most commonly associated with police services of a sovereign state that are authorized to exercise the police power of that state within a defined legal or territorial area of responsibility. Police forces are often defined as being separate from military or other organizations involved in the defense of the state against foreign aggressors; however, gendarmerie are military units charged with civil policing.
Law enforcement, however, constitutes only part of policing activity. Policing has included an array of activities in different situations, but the predominant ones are concerned with the preservation of order. In some societies, in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, these developed within the context of maintaining the class system and the protection of private property. Many police forces suffer from police corruption to a greater or lesser degree. The police force is usually a public sector service, meaning they are paid through taxes.
Gang Busters was an American dramatic radio program heralded as "the only national program that brings you authentic police case histories." It premiered as G-Men, sponsored by Chevrolet, on July 20, 1935.
After the title was changed to Gang Busters January 15, 1936, the show had a 21-year run through November 20, 1957. Beginning with a barrage of loud sound effects – a shrill police whistle, convicts marching in formation, police siren wailing, machine guns firing, and tires squealing – this intrusive introduction led to the popular catchphrase "came on like Gang Busters" – followed by a voice over a megaphone or loudspeaker announcing the title of that night's program: "Tonight, Gang Busters presents the Case of the —" and ending with more blasts from a police whistle.
The series dramatized FBI cases, which producer-director Phillips H. Lord arranged in close association with Bureau director J. Edgar Hoover. Hoover insisted that only closed cases would be used. Joan Banks was a regular cast member.
Tim Nolan (born 1960) is a British-born bassist living in Singapore.
Nolan was born in Oldham, Lancashire, United Kingdom in 1960. In the early 80's he played with Nottingham-based jazz band Pinski Zoo, recording three albums; - "Introduce me to the Doctor", which garnered the review from NME of "Pinski Zoo have put the animal back into music," and which included the track 'Stutter Strut'. Other albums featuring Nolan included "The Dizzy Dance Record" and "The City Can't Have It Back". During this time the band gained popularity, with features in music papers such as the NME and Melody Maker, and by playing and touring with such bands as The Eurythmics, Pigbag, and Alexis Korner. After leaving Pinski Zoo, Nolan played with The Howdy Boys, also based in Nottingham.
From 1998 to 2006, he was in the Singapore band Popland with Kevin Mathews, where they produced 3 CDs, the first being 'Pop', released in 1997 under the name 'The Crowd' (which they later changed to avoid confusion with a U.S. band of the same name). They followed this with 1998's 'Groovy', featuring well-known Singaporean musician Ray Aziz on drums. Aziz appeared live with the band, delivering inventive and powerful rhythms to complement the power-pop of Mathews' and Nolan's songs. He also played drums on their 2002 release 'Action', released on Zip Records. Since then they have been profiled by Singapore's national newspaper, The Straits Times, have played on several Singapore TV shows, been heard worldwide on various radio stations and their music was used in the Warner Bros hit TV show 'High School Reunion'. The band split in 2006.

Country USA was a 23-volume series issued by Time-Life Music during the late 1980s and early 1990s, spotlighting country music of the 1950s through early 1970s.
Each volume in the series chronicled a specific year in country music, from 1950 through 1972, and was issued on a double-length compact disc or cassette, or two vinyl albums. Individual volumes contained 24 tracks, usually representing the year's most popular and important songs. Also included was a booklet, containing liner notes written by some of the most respected historians of the genre, photographs of the artists, and information on the songs (writers, performers and peak position on Billboard magazine's country charts).
All told, the entire series contains 552 tracks.
"Country USA" was first issued during the summer of 1988, and is pattered after Time-Life's successful "Rock'n'Roll Era" and "Your Hit Parade" series. It represented Time-Life's first real attempt at chronicling country music's post-1950 history; earlier in the 1980s, Time-Life had a budget "Country Series" and the later "Country & Western Classics."
