Story Behind The Song - Introduction
ARRIVAL
At the time I was making this album I was right in the middle of a tour and was flying a lot. I'm not the biggest fan of flying anyway, and since then and even still now I take well over 100 flights a year(!) I was trying to write a song about the settling of the nerves that you get when the plane finally touches down. I think the melody loosely resembles the German folk song, "Tranen Lugen Nicht".
BITTERSWEET
Nick Menza's dad played the Japanese flute (Shakuhachi) at the intro of this one. Probably my fave song on the album, it's got it all for me, sad melodies and even some burning guitar at the ending. I don't recall writing this one, which means it probably came together in a matter of minutes.
BE
I always wanted to do a tune with the typical 1950's ballad chord progression. This also came together easily. On a mellow album like Introduction, the ending solo section of this tune sounds particularly passionate.
ESCAPISM
This was the working title of the album. I'm happy with the use of counterpoint in the front half of this long piece. The 'meditation-like' section at the end of this song scared the record company (EMI) that released my next album, "True Obsessions". They specifically told me that they didn't want any 'hummmmmmmmm' music on "True?" I believe there is a time and place for that stuff and they were right--the time and place is not on a rock album!! This album, though, like "Scenes" was more in the romantic vein so I think it feels pretty natural.
LUNA
Another 1950's theme, believe it or not. The theme is similar to "My Prayer" by The Platters, and the time signature changing bridge was something that was inspired by a beautiful Vietnamese melody I heard.
MAMA
Kind of an Italian sounding melody, no? On a technical note, the fingerpicking rhythm was the most difficult part to play on the whole album. There's really an art to playing this kind of music convincingly. I probably should have hired a strolling musician from an Italian restaurant to play the basic part; it probably would have saved me a lot of time!
LONELINESS
Another song with the dreaded "hummmmmmm" in it, but I think the mood of it is truly depressingly sad, hence the name. The guitar figure at the beginning was done with many different guitars and the sounds blended to come up with one unidentifiable, big, sad guitar sound.
SIBERIA
The last song I wrote for the album. The album was coming up short time-wise, so I wrote this one at the very last minute in my hotel room by the studio in Redondo Beach, California. A far cry from Siberia, but I thought the main theme had kind of a Russian vibe to it.

Martin Adam "Marty" Friedman (born December 8, 1962) is an American guitarist, known for his tenure as the lead guitarist for heavy metal band Megadeth which spanned nearly the full decade of the 1990s, as well as Cacophony alongside Jason Becker until 1989. Friedman has resided in Tokyo, Japan since 2003, where he has hosted Japanese television programs such as Rock Fujiyama and Jukebox English. He has released albums with several record labels, including Avex Trax and Shrapnel Records.
Early career (1982–1989)
At the age of 14, after attending a KISS concert, Friedman took up the guitar, and is largely self-taught. He rushed to form a band and started playing original songs, the reason being that originals are easier to play than covers. "Because," he says, "even if you screw up, you just claim that the song is written like that and no one can challenge you." The mother of one of Marty's friends ran an event center with a two-level stage, and Marty and his friends used it as a rehearsal space. Soon word spread about their band, and, since they were in a rural area, people would come from miles around to socialize and listen to music. "Rehearsals" very quickly became live shows. Friedman formed and played lead guitar in several other bands, including Deuce, Hawaii (which had previously been called Vixen), and notably Cacophony. Cacophony featured neoclassical metal elements and synchronized twin guitar harmonies and counterpoints shared with guitarist Jason Becker. He played guitar on the 1987 album It Won't Be Long by Christian rock band Shout. In 1988, he recorded demos for Jet Red that eventually were released as bonus tracks on the 2009 Jet Red release "Flight Plan". In August 1988, he released his first solo album, Dragon's Kiss.

Album
Albums of recorded music were developed in the early 20th century, first as books of individual 78rpm records, then from 1948 as vinyl LP records played at 33 1⁄3 rpm. Vinyl LPs are still issued, though in the 21st century albums sales have mostly focused on compact disc (CD) and MP3 formats. The audio cassette was a format used in the late 1970s through to the 1990s alongside vinyl.
An album may be recorded in a recording studio (fixed or mobile), in a concert venue, at home, in the field, or a mix of places. Recording may take a few hours to several years to complete, usually in several takes with different parts recorded separately, and then brought or "mixed" together. Recordings that are done in one take without overdubbing are termed "live", even when done in a studio. Studios are built to absorb sound, eliminating reverberation, so as to assist in mixing different takes; other locations, such as concert venues and some "live rooms", allow for reverberation, which creates a "live" sound. The majority of studio recordings contain an abundance of editing, sound effects, voice adjustments, etc. With modern recording technology, musicians can be recorded in separate rooms or at separate times while listening to the other parts using headphones; with each part recorded as a separate track.

Story Behind The Song - Introduction
ARRIVAL
At the time I was making this album I was right in the middle of a tour and was flying a lot. I'm not the biggest fan of flying anyway, and since then and even still now I take well over 100 flights a year(!) I was trying to write a song about the settling of the nerves that you get when the plane finally touches down. I think the melody loosely resembles the German folk song, "Tranen Lugen Nicht".
BITTERSWEET
Nick Menza's dad played the Japanese flute (Shakuhachi) at the intro of this one. Probably my fave song on the album, it's got it all for me, sad melodies and even some burning guitar at the ending. I don't recall writing this one, which means it probably came together in a matter of minutes.
BE
I always wanted to do a tune with the typical 1950's ballad chord progression. This also came together easily. On a mellow album like Introduction, the ending solo section of this tune sounds particularly passionate.
ESCAPISM
This was the working title of the album. I'm happy with the use of counterpoint in the front half of this long piece. The 'meditation-like' section at the end of this song scared the record company (EMI) that released my next album, "True Obsessions". They specifically told me that they didn't want any 'hummmmmmmmm' music on "True?" I believe there is a time and place for that stuff and they were right--the time and place is not on a rock album!! This album, though, like "Scenes" was more in the romantic vein so I think it feels pretty natural.
LUNA
Another 1950's theme, believe it or not. The theme is similar to "My Prayer" by The Platters, and the time signature changing bridge was something that was inspired by a beautiful Vietnamese melody I heard.
MAMA
Kind of an Italian sounding melody, no? On a technical note, the fingerpicking rhythm was the most difficult part to play on the whole album. There's really an art to playing this kind of music convincingly. I probably should have hired a strolling musician from an Italian restaurant to play the basic part; it probably would have saved me a lot of time!
LONELINESS
Another song with the dreaded "hummmmmmm" in it, but I think the mood of it is truly depressingly sad, hence the name. The guitar figure at the beginning was done with many different guitars and the sounds blended to come up with one unidentifiable, big, sad guitar sound.
SIBERIA
The last song I wrote for the album. The album was coming up short time-wise, so I wrote this one at the very last minute in my hotel room by the studio in Redondo Beach, California. A far cry from Siberia, but I thought the main theme had kind of a Russian vibe to it.

Jason Becker, (born July 22, 1969) is an American neo-classical metal guitarist and composer. At the age of 16, he became part of the Mike Varney-produced duo Cacophony with his friend Marty Friedman. They released Speed Metal Symphony in 1987 and Go Off! in 1988. Cacophony broke up in 1989 and Becker began doing solo work, having released his first album Perpetual Burn in 1988. He later joined David Lee Roth's band and recorded one album with him. However, Becker's success was hampered by his then-diagnosed amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (Lou Gehrig's Disease) and was given three to five years to live. But that did not stop him from playing drums and at the age of 17 he got his first set of real drums.
In 1993 he was the jazz drummer for Crowder College in Neosho, MO. Tommy Richards and Mikk Reign have played together for many years with a band called Black Reign which opened for Quiet Riot at Guitars and Cadillacs in Joplin, MO in 1997 and 2000 at Club Miami in Joplin, MO. Tommy and Mikk also played together in Savage Harvest in 2004. Tommy has a nine piece Pearl drum set and is presently playing on his five piece Yamaha electric drum set as he and Mikk Reign have gotten back together to form a band in Carthage, MO.

Tommy Richards and Mikk Reign have played together for many years with a band called Black Reign which opened for Quiet Riot at Guitars and Cadillacs in Joplin, MO in 1997 and 2000 at Club Miami in Joplin, MO. Tommy and Mikk also played together in Savage Harvest in 2004. Tommy has a nine piece Pearl drum set and is presently playing on his five piece Yamaha electric drum set as he and Mikk Reign have gotten back together to form a band in Carthage, MO.
Mikk has obtained a band manager / promoter and has formed a band named Echopass to go live in the spring with the Echopass project, and brand new CD in the works, and some cover tunes. Mikk Reign is electric guitar / lead singer front man, Tommy “T-Bone” Richards (also with Black Reign and Savage Harvest) is on drums. Jason Ogle completes the Echopass band on bass.

Mikk has two Jackson Dinky guitars one of which has a Dimebucker pickup.

Micky Dolenz is one of Tommy’s influences on drums along with Alex Van Halen, Mike Portnoy of Dream Theater, John Bonham of Led Zeppelin, Peter Criss of Kiss, and Neil Peart of Rush.

The album also includes notable guest appearances by several artists influenced by Friedman, including flamenco/metal acoustic guitar duo RODRIGO Y GABRIELA, CHILDREN OF BODOM frontman Alexi Laiho, SKYHARBOR mastermind Keshav Dhar and REVOCATION guitar whiz David Davidson, as well as Friedman's first songwriting collaboration with Jason Becker since the pair played together in CACOPHONY, the pioneering duo of guitar mayhem.
In addition, "Inferno" breaks all genre rules and creates new ones with an exhilarating and musically daring mash-up with Jørgen Munkeby of the acclaimed "blackjazz" act SHINING, as well as two tracks featuring vocals by rock guru Danko Jones. Overall, "Inferno" is by far Friedman's most thrilling and adventurous effort to date.

Born in Queens, NY Allen Benatar has been a dedicated drummer and live performer for as long as he can remember. Allen was always obsessed with Music, he loved playing the Piano & Guitar but always had a special Passion for playing the Drums.
At the age of thirteen, with an unspeakable amount of dedication, Allen finally got the five piece Pearl Export Series drum kit that he had been dreaming about. As a young child, Allen always knew he would grow up to be the passionate musician he is today.

Allen's first serious band "Through the Discipline" was established in 1997. TTD had a successful 10 YEAR run, touring the US extensively (over 3 times) & Canada. The band toured with National Metal acts such as "Kataklysm", "Full Blown Chaos", "Sworn Enemy", & "Misery Index". Through the Discipline was on every major bill across the US (including "Metal Fest" & "Hellfest") opening for bands such as "Misfits", "Killswitch Engage", "Shadows Fall", "Hatebreed", "Arch Enemy", "Children of Bodom", "Six Feet Under", "Joey Belladonna" ("Anthrax"), & more. The band disbanded after signing with an indie Japanese Record Label, and the night before heading out on tour with David Ellefson's ("Megadeth") band "Temple of Brutality" due to member complications.
"WHEN I'M ON STAGE, NOTHING ELSE MATTERS."
Six months after the long successful run of TTD, and trying out different guitarists to form a new group, Allen met Chilean Guitarist Felipe Roa (via Myspace) & Chris Leblanc from Boston Massachusetts, who would then form the band "ACARO". It wasn't long before the guys were writing killer material and able to solidify a bassist & Vocalist. Within 6 months of traveling by bus and driving from N.Y. to Boston every weekend for band rehearsal, Allen locked down a new place to live with his Guitarist Felipe in Boston, MA. After 1 year of intense work & dedication (by only their third live performance together), the band was playing alongside National Metal acts such as "Lamb Of God", "In Flames", "All That Remains", "Gojira" & "Unearth."
After touring around the U.S. with ACARO for two successful years, Allen decided it was time for him to pursue other opportunities and made the move to Miami, FL where he hooked up with the infamous Hip-Hop Artist "Pretty Ricky". He also played for Rock band(s) such as "Oblivious Signal", "City of Treason" & Rock/Hip-Hop group "Last King". Four years after a great run down south (and after his grandma passed away), Allen made a last minute move to Hollywood CA, to continue his successful Music career and to pursue Acting. It was only a few weeks later that Allen's face began to pop up on Major TV shows, while securing a Recording Studio in Hollywood, and continuing his work with a few bands on the East Coast. Allen continues to tour around the country and his Custom DW Lavender Lacquer drum kit doesn't leave his side.
"Allen's internal fire burns solely for the desire to be the perpetual cutting-edge of the entertainment industry. His talents and contributions have endless Possibilities and his desire to learn and grow are extremely admirable".

Micky Dolenz is one of Tommy’s influences on drums along with Alex Van Halen, Mike Portnoy of Dream Theater, John Bonham of Led Zeppelin, Peter Criss of Kiss, and Neil Peart of Rush.
